POP CENTURY ... LAST WEEK of SEPT. 07 MEET

I am so bummed about Spaceship Earth. This is our first time at Epcot!

You won't miss much. It will be considered a classic landmark though. When most people think of Epcot the first thing that comes to mind is "the big golf ball"

From what I gathered, it was posted as a possible refurb in a CM newsletter a while back, and, well, you know how rumors fly. Very reliable sources say that if it was going to be closed for refurb they would have already posted it for the public. They usually give PLENTY of warning for this sort of thing and being that we are under 2 mos. I think it would have been official by now....I hope!

You should join us Sarah!

Oh drat, you mean now I have to ride it?

The funny thing is, when I heard it might be closed, I was kind of relieved not to have to try and fit it in. LOL

I always think of the scene in Steve Martin's "Father of the Bride" when he's happy to find out one of their guests has died, so he can eliminate him off of the guest list. This is how I felt about R n RC. :lmao:

We won't be at Fantasmic/MGM that night, so I won't be able to ride with you. But thanks for the invite! :goodvibes

DD really wanted to go on it!

It won't be DH's first time to Epcot, he went when he was 5. His mom was CLUELESS! He said they did nothing but walk, no movies, shows, rides, ect..And most of that walking was to "this giant golf ball" as DH put it. And then, they didn't ride it!!! Apparently MIL didn't know there was a ride in it! :lmao: So I wanted to be able to ride it for DH and DD!

so going to ride TOT til I puke so count me in!!!! Where are we meeting for Fantasmic? Katie and I have the package at H & V but we'll try to find you all.

Can't wait! We have ressies at Mama Melrose at 5:40, but I figure we'll have an idea of who to look for after the Glow Party!

Please advise when you daredevils intend on challenging the laws of physics so that I can take my umbrella to avoid the upchucks. :lmao:

Im soo glad he enjoyed it afterall. I hope that DH has fun...belive it or not we are both pretty shy people...and ofcourse alot of people pre judge us based on DH tattoos so we have are use to people "avoiding" us because they assume he was incarserated or somthing. Anyhow, Im looking forward to meeting everyone I just hope DH finds some friends too:goodvibes
I'm a pretty shy person myself, you all will after to do a little prodding before you get me talking much.

I'm sure my dad would love to hang out with your husband. He sounds like a really nice guy BTW, I don't know WHY anyone would judge him just because he has tattoos.
Well, I am farrrrrrrrr from shy  and most likely be the one grabbing you around the neck for a big hug  Yes... I am a hugger :rotfl: . DH and I are as down to earth as they come.. we do not judge for fear of being judged :rotfl:

And just to set the record straight, I grew up in L.A in the 80's.. I had two tone hair.. usually spiked Everything was pierced including my nose (like a bull ) and I do have a tattoo. You wouldn't know it by looking at me now :sad2: I was so cool then :cool2:

What are you talking about? You're still really cool!
I am so bummed about Spaceship Earth. This is our first time at Epcot!

We're bummed too, I used to love that ride.

I used to be shy. Hard to believe but true.

Now I will give you a smile and if you give me one back I will speak. If you talk to me, I will talk to you and if that happens you will forever be a part of my Disney memories. I may not remember names but I remember stories.

HOWEVER, I am deaf so if you speak to me and I do not see you you might think me uppity and I am not. Please tap me on the shoulder and do not get freaked out at my staring at your lips.:goodvibes

Linda/Slightly Goofy - are you deaf? or Hard of hearing? Do you sign/have hearing aide???

Because dh and ds are hard of hearing - so I completely understand where you are coming from!! We learned SEE, and I teach/sub where the Deaf/HOH kids are mainstreamed, and I communicate with them, and teach the classes I am in more educate them about communication!!

DH totally should wear aides,, but right now he reads lips very well!! DS is in college taking ASL as his foreign language!!

cant wait to meet everybody!!:cool1:

eeyore45, I would guess I am hard of hearing although there are times, when I am sick, when I cannot hear a blessed thing at all. I am not able to wear a hearing aid often cause my sweating shorts out the battery and that gets expensive. I am looking into the old fashioned kind that have the works behind the ear. it is more important to me to be able to hear than to look fashionable. I do not sign. I should learn but few know how around here so I have not felt the need.

What might SEE be? Between being able to hear some in my right ear (that is why I prefer to sit left of people) and reading lips I can carry on a conversation one on one but in a group I am totally lost and often interact in very odd ways since I hear enough to be dangerous. It is amazing what missing just one word can do to comprehension.

I teach children to read and was heartbroken when my hearing started to get worse as I thought that would be the end of that part of my life however I have found, now that I am forced to work one on one rather in groups, I am actually more useful. I have just had to adjust my teaching methods and since I work with children whose parents and grandparents have known me for years they do not get freaked out to see my head so close to the head of their child. It is only hard with the shy kids cause they talk so low that I cannot hear them at all.

Thank you for your work and patience with those who need it so badly, along with your heart and love for what you do. Teachers are a blessing and blessed. :teacher:

I'm bummed with Spaceship Earth bieng down too. I wish it was up. Between my back and being a chicken I don't get on thrill rides either. I am even worried about Soarin'. We have 55 days to go. It seems like it is dragging. Been busy with work and so haven't been on here a whole bunch. I can't wait to meet all of you all.

 me again!!

DH and DS found the over the ear aid much better - the technology has improved in 20 yearssssss - but the cost is out of this world!

SEE - is Signing Exact English - where in ASL you sign more 'concepts" and SEE you sign every word, every ending - it helped my son "Dont forget the "S" dont forget its - ed"

I find just knowing the alphabet is helpful to kids with speech needs too - or learning to write a "b" vs "d"

You'll also notice when I teach I sit in one spot instead of walking around the room giving a spelling test - I think teachers forget many children with colds have hearing losses! (temporary)

Where in Indiana are you from? Farrah is in Terre Haute - DH went to Rose Hulman - I graduated from Ball State - grew up in NW Indiana!! Relatives in Indy, and my parent are in Angola for the summers!

Hi Guys~
Okay, so I'm sorry I don't keep in touch as often as I mean to. Seriously, I really try to get on the computer every day. Farrah pointed out to me today that I'm teasing every one since I get online & then I don't for a few days. :) I am still in Alaska & have just been sooo busy. Hunter is nearly walking & we try to go fishing or spend as much time outdoors as possible. I have been running every day because Hunter is almost 9 months old & I still have tons of baby weight to lose & also because our trip is soooo close and I'm a little nervous about being in a bathing suit LOL :rotfl:

I hope you are all doing great & getting ready for free dining!!! I'm so excited & I can't wait to meet every one :)

Talk to you soon~
Becky

Hi Becky! How exciting that Hunter is about to Move 'em and Groove 'em, as we say! We miss you!

Will you be joining our ToT and RnRc adventure?

becky_AK, what is the matter with you?

You think you have the right to a REAL life while we are here waiting?

You think a cute and adorable child that needs his mom is more important than us?

You are right!!

eeyore45, I am a transplanted Buckeye but have lived in this house for 30 years, this week. Once I find something I like I stay. :goodvibes

I know lots of Rose Hulman grads around here, just south of Indpls. My mom's family is from the Terre Haute/Brazil area.

With the behind the ear aid what are the chances of it shorting out? I am not crazy about the new digital ones as I like being able to talk on the phone with my right ear and have had friends who had problems with them. I have a lot of fluffy hair and do not mind if it can be seen any way. At my stage in life, not that I ever was, I have no vanity at all.

I sit quietly and listen or move according to what I think the child will learn from. Each is so unique and teaching by rote is not my style. For 'ou' or 'ow' words I thump them (gently) on the arm or head. They love that. I love hearing their ideas and thoughts and they love that too. Any adult that thinks they cannot learn from a child is an idiot and likely to remain so. I am quick to admit that I do not know everything and we look things up together. I love that magic moment when a child 'gets it'. If it were not for those who did such for me my life would be much different and not in a good way.

I would imagine that SEE would be a great help in teaching a hearing impaired child to read and spell too. I have seen new technology whereby a deaf person can talk with a keyboard that transfers the spoken word into text. Sounds great to me! I read very well. A book a day or more my whole life.

Slightly Goofy

We are on the same wavelength - I LOVE  watching the lightbulb moments!! You always can tell someone that has a gift for teaching - vs someone that is doing it for 'whatever' reason!! I too learn more from the kids I teach than what I teach them!!

I truly understand the transplanted - but living there for 30 yearss!!

I think you may like or it will take time to get used to the BTE aides - and they have these "jackets" (DS calls them :rolleyes1 well never mind!! :rotfl2: ) he doesnt wear his aides all the time because he find s it very exhausting to hear everything!! I'm sure you can relate!!

Cant wait till Sept!!
