We're planning a DVC purchase in the March/April '06 timeframe (to coincide with our tax refund and annual bonus), but also really want to schedule a 7 or 8 nite trip the first week of June '06, in a 1 bdrm, preferably at BWV. I've been around here long enough to know that this would be an impossible ressie to get in that timeframe. Does anyone have any creative suggestions about how to accomplish this?? Thanks in advance!!

:disrocks:

It still might be possible. I sent you a PM to discuss your options.

Just to let you know a BWV Preferred View 1 Bdr. is available for a Jan 1st check-in and a Jan 8th check-out, seven nights. Looks to be 200 pts. total for that reservation. OKW is also available...

Y-ASK, thanks for your input. To clarify for others who may respond to my question, we're looking at making June ressies, not January. Thanks again!

Oops my mistake... Silly me :).

Sorry for the confusion,

Since renting is off the table, the only other thought I would have is for you to find someone with banked points that can't go next year. July UY for the banked points would be perfect for your situation. They might be willing to make a reservation for you with their banked 04/05 points and in return you could transfer some 06 points into their account. I think it's too early in the year to find anyone with distressed points to book that far in advance.

Are you planning on buying from Disney or resale? If from Disney, I think you can make the reservation as soon as you put the $500 deposit down. Can you start the process a bit earlier to give you access and just pay the down payment in March? If you don't want standard or boardwalk view, I bet there will still be some availablity.

Just to clarify--there is no such thing as a July use year.

Seems to me it would be very hard to coordinate everything perfectly buying resale, and then you'd have to wait for ROFR (could take 30 days, probably 3 weeks) and closing (another 2-3 weeks) and finally "getting in the system" (another 10 working days). When you waded through all of that, you'd be ready to make reservations.

If you were planning to buy direct from Disney, you might be able to pull it off.

You could put your deposit on a credit card, scheduling your closing to occur in March. As dizplanner noted above, you would be able to make ressies right away, for any time after your closing. You could possibly even do that now.

Then, you put the cash to close also on your credit card and pay it off from your tax refund/bonus proceeds. Or you could use a home equity line and pay that off.

Might work. If you want to buy direct, I'd call your guide and see if the timing is feasible.

I did what you want to do and it worked out but it was close and a bit risky.

I went on a trip in May 05 and put an offer in on a contract in on March 17th 2005.

The contract I purchased was loaded. It had 210 pts banked from last year, 210 available for that use year and then 210 more comming in December.

We knew we were going on this May trip even if we didn't purchase the contract which was important to us in this decision. We were going with another family though so it was even more nerve racking since another family was involved. And we all decided to go on this trip in March so it was short notice.

So what we did was when we offered on the contract we also asked to rent pts from the seller. We rented a little under 400 pts for our trip. We sent in our deposit for the contract plus an additional $4000 to cover the rented pts at $10 per pt. All the money went into escrow but if the contract didn't go through the seller kept the money for the rented pts.

Our contract passed ROFR on 4/6/05, but we didn't close until after we got back from our trip in May. If the contract closed before our trip the ressies made by the seller for us would have been cancelled.

It was a little nerve racking at times because so many things could have went wrong even after we passed ROFR. I kept thinking that the closing company was going to somehow screw up and Disney would start the transfer too soon. I got a real scare when Disney called 2 days before we left and didn't see our ressie but it was their mistake and everything was fine! Gave me a heart attack though, I thought my worst nightmare came true!! I didn't sleep at all that night.

So yes it can be done, but its a big risk and nerve racking. So I wouldn't recommend it. I would try to purchase earlier or cancel that trip.

Thanks to all for your thoughts! JimMIA and dizplanner...I'm thinking along the lines of your suggestions... Definitely will purchase from Disney...(for the financing). Hmmm...so if I can make ressies from the time we put down the deposit, then how long does it usually take from deposit to closing? And do you have any control over the timing of the closing? Like, could I put down a deposit at the end of January and extend closing to April 15? This is starting to sound better...
