Plan Ahead with Lightning Lane Entry at Walt Disney World Starting July 24

I know this forum is World, but this is confusing in the blog post: "Disneyland Resort will also use the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single pass names beginning July 24. Based on the different ways we know guests visit Disneyland Resort, the way guests purchase, select and redeem Lightning Lane passes at Disneyland Resort will remain the same. "

If it's the same, how will the new titles be used then? That part makes no sense to me lol

I’m excited about not having to get up at 7am during my vacation, as long as there is availability for short stays (this was a huge issue with FP+, but I’m going to assume that since this is a paid service, it will be OK).

“These changes will go into effect on July 24, 2024.”

We’re arriving July 25, so hopefully 🤞🏽 they open the window 7 days before and not on July 24th.

EDIT: oh no, it looks like July 24 is the first day to make Reservations, so no onsite advantage for those arriving the first few days.

The removal of tiers was a huge plus for Genie+ (didn't mean to do a pun, I swear). It was one of the legit pros for me compared to Fastpass+.
Definitely, and that’s the one thing I’m iffy about. A lot of this is going to hinge on same day availability imo. I really didn’t miss the old days of memorizing drop times and this feels like a step backwards. Though I suppose if you’re still limited to riding via LL once per day, maybe that will help capacity. They still have to balance keeping the system useable for the casuals who buy it day of when they get there.

I really like the looks of this, except for one thing: The new Multi Pass will include Photopass for the day. Kind of double dipping on the people who have already purchased it, or adding extra cost for those who don’t want it anyway. But I’ll still take it over Genie+ any day! I hope the price doesn’t get jacked up too much!

It'll be interesting to see how refreshing for passes will go once you use the first 3. One perk of being pretty savvy at G+ was if you got a good "head start" (booking the top attraction right at opening and scanning in immediately) you could stay ahead of the curve all day and pick up pretty good and often immediate times for subsequent rides. Now that people will have times pre-booked, there won't be a nice big open pool of times to refresh from. I remember always being able to pick up times easily with FP+ though, since people change their plans all the time. I'm just happy to not have to get up at 6:50AM every day, I'll take that.

I had this thought, too! By our last trip, we'd gotten so good at using Genie+ that we didn't wait in any lines more than a few minutes and rode almost everything we wanted picking up pretty good times/rides throughout the day. I really am anxious to see how availability holds up throughout the day...but, also, I'm THRILLED not to have to get up at 6:45.

Once you've redeemed your first ride, you can make another selection at that same park or make a selection for another park. So, you'll still get to park hop with the service, but you can't make selections at different parks for the same day in advance.
Thanks - I didn't see that in the post that I read. I am worried that prime selections will be hard to get. I still think the new system will be too restricting.
I did just read that Disney says 2-3 attractions if make selections early in day. With Genie+ we were used to getting 8+ attractions/day.
Really hoping to be pleasantly surprised. Guess we'll find out soon!

EXACTLY!!! If you knew how to use Genie+, it was a really amazing. Do not like the Tier system at all. Highly doubt the desirable rides will be available to book on day of.

People are still going to need to be on their phone all the time refreshing to see if any times open for top tier rides.

Photo pass like memory maker? Or the ride photos like genie plus included??

It looks to include just the attraction photo for that ride (if there is one), and not all PP locations. At least that's how I interpret it.

This is why Fastpass+ was a failure. The power users knew how to work that system to death.

Also Scott did say no re rides in a small Q&A he's doing on his Twitter right now.
That was a much bigger problem with the original paper FP system, and the reason why some posters (the ones who knew how to work the system and stayed in one park all day to take advantage of it) hated move to the FP+ system.
