Pirate Night ~ Why so disliked?

They have you *sit down* on the deck which has got to be the worst crowd-control situation EVER. We avoid it entirely.

Was this recently? We have gone to multiple pirate nights and the crowd was not told to sit down on the deck for any of them. I definitely agree that it would be horrible for crowd control!

Next year we will be watching the fireworks from our verandah (have always been on the wrong side of the ship on our previous cruises), and me and DH will be dressing in our full pirate garb for the main dining room and pirate buffet. DS and DD might dress up as well if I can find a way to get them costumes w/o them realizing that they are for a cruise (we are surprising them with one next year).

I gave the Pirate menu another try on my recent cruise and actually enjoyed it. We normally book Palo on Pirate night but clearly we had just ordered the wrong things in the past. We skip the early pirate stuff that's geared for the younger kids but do go up on deck for the fireworks and show that goes along with it. We actually stayed for the dance party this time also because our 13 and 14 year old were really enjoying it.

We've only done the one cruise, but I definitely enjoyed Pirate Night. The short ribs were probably my second favorite entree of the week (#1 spot is the sea bass in Enchanted Garden), the fireworks were fun (better than no fireworks at all!), and we enjoyed running around the ship in our pirate bandanas - and by we, I mean myself and my DH, both childless 20-somethings. We generally avoided all deck shows after the sail away, so we didn't feel obligated to attend that one, and look forward to trying the buffet next time!

I think some of the dislike that comes for Pirate Night comes from the veteran cruisers which I can agree with. After so many cruises the same day just doesn't wow anymore. However, for the first time it's an absolute blast! My last cruise skipped Pirate Night for the Star Wars night party which I enjoyed just as much. As for the fireworks, I mean I don't except much since they are being shot off at sea with little space to set up for plus safety regulations I'm sure. Still I love Pirates Night!pirate::boat::sail:

My husband and daughter didn't dislike it, but they didn't rave about it either. They did second seating so maybe that had something to do with it? They did say the fireworks were neat.

Dress up was fun, but the show is horrible. I mean, really, really horrible.
Agree 100%. My six year old refused to dress up, which started the negative energy. They did get down on the pool deck and I watched from above, but could not wait for it to be over. Also disliked the menu. I instantly realized why that's such a popular Palo night. Many are talking about a buffet after... What's up with that? We sailed the Magic and the show was in between the two dinner seatings. Love to hear more about this buffet.

It is our least favorite menu, we always go to Palo on Pirate night. The show was cute the first cruise, but after that not so much. Same with dressing up, for us it was fun the first time, now we don't bother. We do always enjoy the fireworks. Because we go to Palo we are never hungry for the buffet, that is one thing I haven't done. I have walked through to see what I was missing.
