So, had something interesting happen at Peter Pan this last trip. The CM offered to stop the moving walkway if we needed. We didn't need them to, but i know people say they have asked them to do this and were told they couldn't, I know some people have had success when it wasn't busy, such as right at park opening or right before closing and I only know that from seeing it happen, but never during the middle of what was a very busy time for the ride. So it seems strange that they offered to do so, is this something new?

If there are guests on the ride, they will not stop the belt as that stops the ride vehicles and that is super dangerous to leave guests dangling over Neverland with no real restraint system on the vehicle. Sometimes at the end of the day, they would process everyone through and then stop or slow the belt. My guess is, there was no one currently "in the air" so they offered.

There were plenty of people "in the air" that is what made it surprising to us. Seriously, tons of people being loaded constantly.

Maybe a new policy on when they can stop it. Hopefully more people will ask so we will have a better idea if this is the new normal

I asked the director of disability services about a year ago.
The answer he gave was that stopping or even slowing Peter Pan is done only in the ‘rarest circumstances’, translate to ‘almost never’.
He also indicated that since the moving walkway and the pirate boats move at the same speed or stop, slowing or stopping suspends guests in the air inside the ride, which is not something they want to do.

I don’t see how anything could have changed that would have made it safe for it to be stopped regularly.

Wondering if it was a new, poorly trained CM who might not even be the CM in charge of slowing down the attraction? Just thought to be helpful, but didn't know it couldn't/shouldn't be done?

I wonder if any CM transferred from Disneyland of Disneyland Paris?
Both of them have a different drive system than WDW has.
The 2 DL versions do not have a moving walkway and come to a complete stop for all guests.
If a CM came from either of those 2 parks, they might not realize they are not supposed to stop the moving walkway. I also have seen comments from guests who rode Peter Pan at one of those parks and told the WDW CM that they get It stopped at the other park and need it stopped at WDW.

I do wish they'd slow/stop the moving walkway more often. I cannot do moving walkways at all, so when I go solo, I never get to do Peter Pan, even though I love the ride.

We asked them if they could stop the belt the week of Feb 16. Was told no problem and they did. This was around 11 am. When we came back to the exit they only stopped when I said something to the CM or we would have gone around again. YMMV. Of course. Will be asking again the week of March 16. Wonder what will happen will try and remember to report back

We were there on Feb 25th, so now really wondering if this is new, it was around 12:30 in the afternoon for us.

I don't know, but it is interesting that tramps'lady was able to have them stop at a similar time of day as well very recently, perhaps someone here might be able to find out more at some point as this seems to be a change, but the question is did we just get lucky? Like I said, for us we didn't need it for this one. DH learned that Buzz and HM he needs it stopped for, found out on Buzz the very hard way and his ankle is still hurting.

I'm pulling my hair out (not much left) trying to find a source to back me up, but I rode this right after the ride came back up after its refresh in 2019 and was surprised that they stopped the train (boat) for an unload.

Years earlier I had the pleasure of having lunch with an Imagineer and the subject of frequent stops on belted rides like haunted mansion or the little mermaid ride and I commented that you never see it on Peter Pan. The Imagineer, and for the life of me I'm drawing a blank on who it was, said that the drive system on PPF only tolerates the force of moving the train of cars (boats) in one direction. That there are actual friction breaks keeping drag on the train so that the line never goes slack. An E-stop on it would require an inspection of multiple points along the drive train before restarting.

But he said there was plans to improve the system to be more robust and tolerant. That was prior to the 2014 renovation. I never thought about it again until seeing the ride stop then start again in 2019, but I wonder if some mechanical upgrades were put in place while the ride was down.

I’m probably going to get slammed for this but .... it’s not enjoyable to ride a ride and have it stop multiple times and then the stay seated warning plays how is the fair for the people riding the ride? Haunted Mansion is painful to ride with the multiple stops.
I know it will never happened but it would be nice if the attractions with moving belts would add a area like the Skyliner has that people could load on a stationary car and have it added to the system

i know what you mean. we always stayed in the line at haunted mansion but then it became to unsafe so we had to go in the exit. I asked if they could just slow it down but were told if we need to use the exit it must be stopped. my DH has trouble with the lighting in the hallways not mobility but would rather not have him running into people or the walls.

our last trip we had a friend with very bad knees and she could barely stand much less walk so we asked at Peter Pan, was very surprised they stopped it. it was her first time and will probably be her last for a while.

On a positive note, depending on where you get stopped on HM, you can get some great video footage. I finally got to watch the complete bride in the attic scene one time. As an AP, sometimes it is fun to get stopped and take it all in but if it was my first and perhaps only time, I would be upset if it happened several times during one ride. I always figured it was one on one off but sometimes it seems to stop more often.

As for the separate loading areas, I think Disney is attempting this on newer rides where possible. I like how the sky liner works. I've tried to use my walker to get on even with slowing it down and it was scary. one reason, we've never gone to the Riviera. 😁

I don't think I've ever ridden HM without it stopping at least once. One time we got stopped near the emaciated, shivering dog. That was horrible. I hate that scene! We were stuck there for a few minutes, ugh. No idea if it was someone having a struggle getting in or out of the doombuggy or a mechanical issue. I wonder if it would be possible to group people who needed the belt stopped so that 2-3 groups could get on at once? That would limit the times the ride stops, and give the CMs a group to focus on for extra assistance (and give them time to get equipment in place?)

We need it stopped for our daughter to get on and off. For at least the last 8-10 years, we’ve been told the moving walkway can only be stopped on a specific doombuggy (the ADA one).
As we’ve waited for it to get to that point, we’ve seen it slowed for other people. We’ve also seen an emergency stop when people have tripped.

Almost every time we ride, there is 1 or more groups of people who need the moving walkway stopped who are waiting with us. So, I do think they group the stops as much as possible.
