Perfumes on the rides

Yes, you can ask a CM is scents are used, but there is no GAC for that and there would be no way for them to turn it off for the rides/shops/shows. These things are automated, and CMs would (probably) not have that kind of control....

I can sympathize with the OP. While I am fortunate that I don't have an adverse reaction to the ride scents, I can (and have) develop a full blown asthma attack from strong perfumes. I usually can avoid the shops known for this (Norway, France pavilions). But what has literally brought me to my knees in the past is being in forced proximity to women who seem to bathe themselves in perfume!! There is just no way to predict when this might occur. Sometimes you can change places with someone else in your party, to add some distance. But twice (in a theatre) we actually had to leave. Fortunately we were able to go back to the attraction later.

At WDW most often the CM's don't know alot about scents used.

Sue is right a GAC does nothing to assist with scent.

Basically WDWs answer is to "deal with it yourself". The most you can do is try and educate people on boards like this and remove yourself and/or avoid the scent.

I have seen posts here asking people not to spray sunscreen in a crowd. And each time some one says "they never thought of that affecting anyone else, but now they will".

There are attractions we just can't do, lines we have to leave and shows we can't watch. (Insert gas mask smilie LOL)

I was just thinking: maybe I can invent a little mask that does more/better than your average surgeons mask and just throw it on for situations like the kids wanting me to go with them for bug's life and test track. They say where there is a will there's a way and I want to do Disney pretty badly. So now I have visions in my head of some crazy mask on my face.

I have considered a mask too LOL (for other reasons in August in Fl). Over time we have found some ways to make some attractions work. We have no trouble with TT, but we hang to the back in the crowded areas. Bugs Life is not happening due to the chemical fog they use.

Average surgeon's mask are designed to catch large particles like when people cough, sneeze from being breathed in or out and to catch the germs coming from the surgeon's mouth or nose before they hot the sterile field.

You need a mask that will filter fumes and small particles. In health care, those kind of masks are called N95 masks. You can get the same type of mask at any home supply store. Look for those that say they are effective against dust, mist and fumes. Those take a little more effort to breathe with since your breaths are actually being filtered thru the mask. Se people with asthma, heart or lung problems have difficulty breathing thru them because of the extra effort. But, it might be worth a try - just be very aware of monitoring your breathing or other symptoms.
