The Running Thread --2025

QOTD: Imagine you had a running shoe deal - so you could get all the shoes you needed for free, but only for one brand. What brand would you choose?
ATTQOTD: This is a Sophie's Choice if I've ever seen one. In the end, as much as I love my Saucony Speed 3 and Pro 4, I think I'd have to go with Asics, keep my Kayano, Metaspeed, and Noosa, and find one of their tempo shoes to fill in for the Speed 3s. If Saucony had a easy day long run shoe that worked for me as well as the Kayano, though, this probably would've gone the other way.

Oh this is a tough one. My last two shoes have been Asics and I've loved them, but I also don't love some of their newer shoe designs. I also loved NB until I didn't. So I kinda have a history of being abandoned by shoe companies.

I'm gonna go Brooks because I want the runDisney shoes. I haven't run in Brooks in 5+ years so who knows if they'd be any good for running ... but if they're free, I can wear them as everyday shoes and use money to buy shoes to run in. (Is that cheating?)

Attqotd: New Balance. It’s not that I’ve been blown away by them, but out of everything I’ve tried they have been the least problematic.

Speaking of that and a recent conversation here, I decided to do a 7 mile trail run in my several years old Altra Lone Peaks. I didn’t like them then, and I kinda enjoyed them this run…until the next day, the lack of rock plate or any real cushioning left my heal a bit sore form banging through rock gardens on the way down.

Going to check out some options at SLRC tomorrow, since I’m using my Sunday long run as an excuse to travel(<10 miles) to go trail run

ATTQOTD: easy one - Altra. It’s the only brand I’ve worn for years! When I ran out of the Torin 5s that treated me so well and the 6 and 7 were awful, I did try some other shoes, but they all caused me so much pain, I was ready to give up running altogether. But I found Altra’s Escalante 4 and Experience Flow, and though neither is quite as perfect as the Torin 5, they’re good enough to keep me running a while longer. I need that very low drop and foot-shape: my toes refuse to be jammed together in a pointy shoe!

Well I have been thinking about getting more cushioning and I see the Nike Vomero + coming out soon. I always wear my running shoes once done as my daily walking shoes so with 55mm heel stack I could be permanently 5 foot 10 so I’ll choose them.
