DE has decided she would like to do the penny presses this year. Help me remember...1 penny, 2 quarters, right? Anyone have any idea how many pennies and quarters I should be prepared with? Haven't I heard somewhere that people use M&M tubes to carry the money?
TIA

Yes, two quarters and one penny. Each machine offers at least three designs so you can spend $1.53 per machine. :) We don't use M&M containers but instead use ziplocs. One snack sized ziploc for pennies, one for pressed pennies and I keep the quarters in a seperate regular sized ziploc. Not sure how many machines there are total but I'm sure someone can put a link to a site that lists them all.

I do the same, just ziplocks for the change. Also, you can clean the pennies before you leave so they are nice and shiny!

If you have any old plastic 35 mm film canisters those work too. I only use the tubes as I can stack in order - penny, quarter quarter...
There is some information on the DIS and if you are all ears in looking around I'm sure you can find a site with a complete list ;)

Also, remember to use pennies dated prior to 1982 - these pennies have more copper in them. The newer ones have mostly zinc.

Once you start...you won't be able to stop - It really become addicting.

This past trip I went to many of the resorts, just to find their machines.

Just be careful, or you'll be hooked on pressing those quarters instead of the pennies. Our GD and GS love to hunt for the machines, but our rule is that only one penny per machine so that we can move on to the next gift shop.

I have been collecting these pressed pennies and pressed quarters for years and have 9 of the books you can buy to display them in full of coins. When I started collecting them I did not know about the pre 1981 thing so I am finding myself going back and replacing the ones in my collection that are not good quality with pre 1981 coins every trip we make. Here is another tip for you. Select as many pre 1981 pennies that you can find then soak them in ketchup for a few minutes then rinse and dry and place in a ziplock baggy. Print of the checklist and at the end of the day check off all you have collected.

I have a pressed penny book and I brought it with me last week. I tried 3 different pressed penny machines - 2 of them made off-center pennies and one split the penny length-wise creating a very sharp edge. All 3 times, I gave the bad pennies to a cast member and suggested the machines needed servicing but they didn't seem to know who to call about it. After 3 different machines and no good pennies, I gave up. No big deal to me but I imagine it would be a disappointment to a child. Hopefully it was just my bad luck. (2 different machines at SoG, 1 machine at the GF)

I took rolls of pennies and quarters and then put the pressed coins in ziploc bags. It was fun searching for the machines. I bought a pressed penny book the peenies fit but not the quarters. Have fun.

I too have gotten hooked on the press pennies. Going to have to invent a book for the quarters tho. Love them too!

the book that we bought last week has a slot for the quarters on the right hand fold out.

Yea, I have that same book! I enjoy the pressed quarters just as much, but why does it cost a dollar to press a quarter. Does it take a bigger press??

I want to do this, but most of my pennies are POST 1982. I'll be cleaning them before my trip in May. I've already filled two M&M Minis tubes with quarters and pennies and am working on a third.

How much does a pressed penny book cost and where can you get one at the parks once you're there? I'll need to get on ASAP.

Not sure of the cost, but not much. They have them at pretty much every store around the world.

My kids loved doing this on our last trip. They found you got much better results if you pressed the picture into the heads side of the coin. So place the penny heads towards the machine and it pressed much better.

I uncovered a book that my family started in 2000, so when DH and I went on our last trip (from which we just returned) we tried to get alot of pressed pennies.

I now have more than fit in the book!

Can't wait for another trip so we can start adding more to our collection!

We decided for our upcoming trip to WDW in April we are going to collect pressed pennies. I used to collect pins but it's just got too expensive. It's great to hear many Dis'ers are already colecting them!
