We've done WDW restaurants numerous times, but I've been too nervous to try a cruise with PN and TN allergies. So glad to hear yours went well!
Who did you meet with, did you have to make many plans ahead of time, and how was the allergy handled on board? Was your child able to participate in the on-board children's activities?
Thanks!
On
DCL were was your DS able to eat in any food outlet? Or only particular ones? Was the Kids Club willing to feed your DS or did you have to?
I'm going on the Magic in Nov and my DD has a PA also, so I'm trying to find out all I can.
We've gone on DCL 4 times so we do feel comfortable cruising with a PA. I admit it always crosses my mind about what if a reaction occurs, but we do feel safe on board.
There is a medical form you send to DCL prior to the cruise that your dr needs to fill out. It has basic information about the allergy and what the presribed treatment would be.
I haven't had any contact with DCL prior to the cruise. (i wish there was an email/phone call prior.) The day of embarkation we had lunch at Parrot Cay (instead of the buffet) because I think it's easier to talk to the chef there (first day only). The chef came out and talked to DS (12) and ended up making him chicken tenders and fries. He could have eaten off buffet but took the chef up on his offer. At dinner the first night, I told the server about the allergy and he and the head server handled it from there. My DS ordered anything he wanted from the menu and that was it. He was able to eat the bread each night and dessert as well. There were a few menu items with tree nuts but I don't recall anything containing peanuts. A few times the head server did come over to check if sesame seeds were ok. Every night DS double-checked with server if he could have the bread. It was so funny. I explained that in most restaurants the bread usually isn't safe. After that he would bring two bread bowls to his side of the table.
At the breakfast buffet, we asked to speak to a head server the first day and he walked the buffet with us and pointed out what contained nuts (mortadella (sp?) on the cold side). Unfortunately the mickey waffles had a may contain warning so he was not able to eat them on the ship. We steer clear of muffins, buns, donuts, etc. so I don't recall if they were safe or not.
The self-service ice cream was safe for him. Pinocchio's Pizza was safe as well. We didn't eat at Plutos this time but he has eaten there before.
At Cookie's BBQ at
Castaway Cay, we spoke to a head server and he walked the buffet with us as well. The chocolate chip cookies were off limits at Castaway Cay. (He's used to that though.)
We did bring a bagel and cereal off the ship for our excursion to Nassau. I wasn't comfortable with him eating there. I even asked to read the hamburger bun label at Blue Lagoon and was told "no". The food was gross and he was quite happy he was the only one enjoying his lunch. You could probably order a sandwich from room services in the a.m. and bring on excursion. Unfortunately I didn't think of this until after the fact.
**Side note...We are a family of 5 and always request a private table but we always get placed with another family of 5. I was going to put it on the medical form but I forgot about it.
