I'm running numbers to figure out how many points to buy.
How much would a Fri and Sat stay in a studio be at the boarwalk if I wanted to save my points during a weeklong stay, just using my points on a Sun- Thurs basis.
Also, if you add-on after your initial purchase, do you still have to put down a downpaymnet on those add-on points?
Thanks!

The member cash discount is 25% off of the Rack Rates. You can get the current rates at www.disneyworld.com, but they will increase annually. The cash discount is only offered when DVC predicts that the resort will not be 100% booked by members staying on points.

I don't blame you one bit for trying to think long term. But, this is a situation where it may be really hard to predict when the cash discount will be offered (both today and in the future), and exactly how much the rooms may cost in 10-20 years.

One other note regarding the Boardwalk--MS will NOT allow members to pay cash for Boardwalk View rooms. So, if you ever want to have a 6+ night stay in the Preferred BW View, you'll have to use points. I'm not sure if the same logic applies to the Standard View or not.

Regarding the downpayment, yes, I believe you do need to place a downpayment on any add-ons.

If your asking how much DVC charges for a room with the member discount to pay cash on the weekends instead of points, it is 25% off of rack rate. This is only if they have the room available (they release rooms for cash with the member discount that they think will not be booked with points) and only available for rooms at the DVC resorts. Often, you can get a better deal with an AP rate or other discounts codes such as FL res. though.

As for down payments with ad-ons, It's been 7yrs since we did our ad-on, but I don't think we had to put extra down. Although, I could be wrong or things could have changed since then.

HTH's

On Thursday afternoon we did an add-on of 30 OCT 05 pts @ SSR -- a $500 downpayment was required. I just put the whole thing on the VISA card instead of playing with downpayments and balances. :teacher:

.

Just last week, I booked a BWV studio for a Thursday, Friday, and Saturday night stay on a cash reservation and was offered all 3 views for the same price by the MS cast member I was speaking to. I ended up with a preferred/pool view b/c he told me that the Boardwalk view studio was only available on the Fri and Sat night and I didn't want to switch rooms after one night. Standard was also offered to me, but I thought why take that for the same price as the preferred view? I haven't received my confirmation yet, so I'll let you know what it states. And certainly, my MS cast member could have been misinformed, but I was definitely given the option for the guaranteed Boardwalk view on the Fri and Sat. As a member, I'm not sure I'm thrilled with the prospect of the BW guaranteed studios being sold for cash myself. And my reservation is for August so there's still plenty of time for DVC members to want to rent those on points.

With regard to the cash availability of a BW View, this CM was misinformed and gave you inaccurate information, unless your ressie was booked within the last 30 days of the visit and they had the BW view available. They will split the cash portion off to a preferred view room at check-in and the guest will have to relocate. -Thought you would want to know just so nobody is disappointed when they get there.
