Late Summer/Early Fall Incentives

I should have waited on that; that's an ok deal. Just note the shipping is outrageous. The pin box is good if you have pin traders in your house.
UGH yes, the shipping is outrageous for D23! And we can't use discounted Disney GCs. SMH

I let my D23 Gold lapse last year when I had to frantically burn all my Disney Movie Insider points. I redeemed a "free" D23 Gold membership and still had to pay $19.99 to ship the pin set!

$10 for three more items this year isn't as bad. I still "saved" $50 off the advertised priced after shipping and fees. DISNEY MATH WINS AGAIN! :teacher: HAHA

Yes, I did, I decided it was easier just to buy more Riviera direct. I haven’t found too many times other than early December where I would be locked out of a poly studio and frankly my last poly trip was not that great.
I originally was all in on Poly direct but my last trip to Poly also was not the best. You guys all saw the room they gave me for "theme park view" 😂. I think I might love the idea of Poly more than the actual resort. The vibes and location are nice but the reality is the pools and restaurants are overcrowded and there is not a signature dining restaurant on property. Now that we're leaning towards moving back to being home in SoCal where prices are a little higher, we might end up using that as part of our house down payment.

I mean.. idk, worse comes to worst I'll consider Poly/BLT resale even though I really prefer not to buy anymore resale points. On the other hand not buying points now opens me up to buying other direct points down the line like maybe if by some miracle they open something new in the Crescent Lake area even though we already have a healthy amount of RIV points but we'll see.

Same! I keep wanting to love the Poly but I just can’t make it happen. So we’re adding more RIV next week!

Maybe LSL will open up and blow all our socks off! I wanted to love Poly because I love shiny and new and I love towers. I love it not being restricted. But I just couldn’t get into it.

I’m about to sell the xxxxxx I bought in April and buy direct Riviera. I can never save money. I’m good at always losing money.
I'm super bummed that I don't love Poly as much as I thought. I love the theme and I love that it's an OG WDW resort. I had an amazing view from my long house - amazing, but I was too far from the GCH and when I did make it over there, it was too busy and chaotic. Food was okay and could easily be one and done.

I've been thinking about selling my resale contract there (keeping my direct), but I also don't want to buy a fourth resort so I am holding. I don't hate it, but I liked BWV more and I even preferred BLT and Grand Floridian when I visited those two. I probably just need to figure out the least popular time at Poly and visit it then. I'll probably enjoy it more.

I'm hoping that the Poly will start more strict restrictions on parking and pool hoping so that the resort guests can enjoy the whole resort. It always seems like the GCH is packed at most time, especially at dinner.

Looking into buying RIV direct 150 pts, Dec UY to match my other direct contract (VGF). With the current welcome home developer credit the price is $30,900 (before closing) per my guide. Then I can get the magical beginnings rebate (3000) and sign up for D23 another 500 off. Am I missing any other discounts? We also have a resale BLT 150 points that we are keeping for now, but always can sell or rent the points in the future. This allows us to have two relatively equal contracts eventually for our two adult kids that can do with what they like at some point (they are listed on our other direct contract). Also really nice to have an Epcot area resort as that is our preferred location, stayed at RIV once, it is beautiful. We like BW and BC too, but doesn't make sense to buy direct there and would not be fairly equitable compared to our existing direct VGF. Taking our first full family trip in January and with three units to book we are really eating up the points. Anyway that is my rational :) and realize after RIV is sold out, it may be long time before another Epcot area resort is available.

Another question, does anyone have suggestions on credit cards, we recently closed some and would need at least one additional to get more benefits of such a large charge. Would like a card with airport lounge access and chase and amex are both pricey and getting coupon cutter with the benefits. Capital one is more of a bargain and for now at least can recoup the annual fee pretty easy. Though I know they are limiting guest lounge access soon. Is the Disney card worth it just to have for times they throw out additional bennies. We used to have it but canceled as the points seemed to be better on other cards. Also no current DVC purchase benefit for this scenario.

lol. Yeah, I'm commiserating with you here...as my BLT goes to market and my money goes to my first (ONLY) direct contract at Polynesian. I do love BLT, but $275/pt just isn't reasonable if trying to buy direct there. So Polynesian it is. Which I liked enough, and it has its own nice vibe.

Now I'm down to two resorts, and 100% of my points will now be "never ever selling these" points! If I get back in the resale market, it will only be for small supplements in the future. I'm also now out of the direct contract purchasing game through 2066, and I think I might be too old to buy direct then. 🤭

Just keep it and stay at BLT! You can get lake view rooms easy at BLT, and I suspect you can also stay at GF pretty easily too. Dues are low and transactional costs are low; keep what you have since it will work anywhere.

At my age, I’m not sure I have any business buying direct with a 40+ contract life. FWIW, I have BLT resale and love it. I rented out some BLT points within days. I’m not loving the price the broker suggested listing my Poly points at and I have no business holding onto so many points but if I wasn’t nervous with the recent talk about renting, I’d do that for a while before rushing to sell.

The talk about renting definitely does not encourage anyone to hold more points than they strictly need. It's part of the reason I decided to flip to direct: originally I assumed I could just rent extra points if I had some occasionally but since it sounds like that is becoming more discouraged, I don't want to deal with holding too many (so downsizing to a nearly comparable cost direct, which will get me some benefits I'd like).
