Our last day is tomorrow. Today was DD's last day ever of Spanish- the teacher is leaving and they're replacing it with an online class so she's not planning on doing that. She cried . I hope they eventually get a new teacher because I don't feel like online class being your only foreign language option is satisfactory.

DD got Class President again...with no prom to plan I think this is mostly an in-name-only position, with the option to speak at graduation and perhaps the "honor" of getting to arrange class reunions every 5 years. Oh well, it will look lovely on the scholarship apps.

I was just telling her this morning she really needs some more community service- then today the school emailed that they are starting the Silver Cord program (I think this is an Iowa thing). Since they are just starting her senior year, she only has to do 25 hours to get the distinction. We just need to figure out some places to do them.

Next fall she will have two online college credit classes, in Blocks 2 and 3 of a 4 block day. She was told she wouldn't have to replace them with anything at semester as she would have enough credits to graduate, but with them being in the middle of the day I told her she should just find more classes to take. Perhaps if they were the first two or last two of the day it would make more sense to go part-time but attending just first and last block of the day is silly. Hopefully she can find some more college classes to count for gen eds.

Wrapped up finals last week - DS only had 2 real finals, Theology and English. Physics gave a quiz, but nothing major.

We leave for a Baltic Sea cruise on Wednesday, but today and tomorrow, DS is working at the school, helping out with the summer camp the school puts on for 6th and 7th graders. He's working with his Robotics moderator doing a class for the kids. Turns out, they're going to pay him $120 for the two days, which doesn't suck, especially since he doesn't have a summer job yet.

Trying to plan out a couple college tours this summer, but we'll figure that out once we're back.

Still 2 weeks to go. I got an email that both dd15 and dd17 made all conference for track. Her schedule next year had some glitches because of her honor choir, which is a certain period. She will have to take AP Statistics instead of BC Calculus, which she is a little happy about. Finished AP Spanish 5 so no more language. She’s taking a couple more AP classes, culinary, and her first even non honors/AP class due to scheduling, the Holocaust, and she is looking forward to it. She got some recruitment letters from some colleges for xc/track, including my college, but they don’t offer her program. She’s hoping to be named a xc captain, and run for NHS president. Her last dance nationals are in July, her 10th year. It went by so fast!

Sigh, went on a college visit today, to one that is affordable. DD did not like it at all and I didn't either. Then we came home and there was a big mailer from the college she really wants to go to, that would be a really great place for her, but we probably can't afford. I would really love to just let her go there. I'm getting frustrated trying to find something that won't be a financial burden that's still good and not too far away. Feel like we're running out of options.

She just got back from the NYC trip with the school music department and had a fabulous time. Later this week she'll move up to camp to work for most of the summer!

Class has been out here for 2 weeks already. We left on vacation right away and are just settling into a summer routine now that we're home.

Her grades finally came in the mail. The Trig teacher was very late getting the final graded so we didn't know how it turned out before we left town and I couldn't talk her into looking the first few days of our trip (not sure I blame her ). By the time she looked Power School was locked down and she couldn't see. We had to wait for snail mail. LOL. Who does that? But she got her A, so all is good.

Tennis practice is under way and Girls' State is in 2 weeks. I can't talk her into the July ACT, so she's waiting for October. Anyone wanting to sign up for July, the registration deadline is 6/15.

Still in school mode here. DD leaves for Japan in about 36 hours and she's ready to be done! She's packed, she's got a team in place to help keep up her community garden while she's gone, and her last final is tomorrow.

She found out she's going to be captain of the softball team next year, which she's really excited about even though it wasn't much of a surprise, and we've picked up a couple of her summer reading books for her to have on the plane. She's just going to have to deal with the AP bio summer homework when she gets home, though, because the text they use isn't available in e-book format and it is HUGE so she's certainly not taking the hardcover edition. We ended up cancelling our August Disney plans because she realized this is probably going to be the last year she's in Michigan for our renaissance festival so she wants to take a couple of friends to that instead, so at least she'll have those last couple weeks of summer mostly free to get it done.

Just back from the doctor getting the shots required before school starts. That didn't gain me any brownie points. LOL.

Like your son, she's definitely burnt out right now. She also has a fairly new job, and between that and tennis practice is staying way busier than she wants.

Looks like fall will be a busy time for ACT studies!

DS got Harvard and Yale yesterday too. We chuckled a little at that, since there's no way he would ever get into those schools.

Yep, lots of mail from colleges and universities that some I have heard of, some I don't. She doubled up her finals, so last one is now, and she's done. No need to finish the rest of the day at school, and doesn't have to go into school tomorrow, the last day of school in the School District.

We visited her top choice two weeks ago. Nice production and a t shirt. She was very happy with all, and had a long talk about the cost. It's a maybe, and we asked her to also apply to some other schools. She wants to visit another, local one, but really wants to not commute.

And, yay, not just a summer camp job, but another one for some nights and week-ends.

Wow, this Junior year just flew by. And happy, that she told me her senior pictures, taken yesterday, were good. That, and a year book, will be the only things I buy during Senior year to remember the school. She has no desire for a ring. And that's fine with me.

DS finishes up school Friday. He's been working at his new summer job for two weeks now and we did another college trip. One of which was Georgetown, which we all loved but of course is a stretch for most people. Still waiting on SAT subject test and AP test scores of course. He's had an assembly about senior pictures, which I think I've mentioned I only plan to do for the yearbook and am going to inquire about some less expensive options for the others I want to take. Turned in his parking permit application for next year, so we need to get that old van to hold on that long (LOL), and scheduled having his wisdom teeth out for this summer too. All that plus summer swim and both my kids are going to be busy! But I hope happy.

We still have 2 more weeks...don't get out until the 27th. One of your winter storms most of the town was without electricity for about 5 days.

My DS was supposed to go to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico in July for an 85 mile backcountry trek. They have been planning for over a year. (He's been looking forward to it for 4 years). They have been doing conditioning hikes for the trek for several months. His trek was canceled last week due to wild fires in the area. I was so disappointed for him but they have somehow managed to book a trip for the same dates to a high adventure camp in Alaska!!! They are all so excited. What a great opportunity for him! He will be home from that for 4 days before he goes to "regular" Boy Scout camp-he has to go to get his swimming merit badge-a requirement for Eagle. He has to work on his Eagle project and finish a few other required merit badges as well as he ages out in January.

We are planning a quick trip to Florida to visit Florida Tech and Embry Riddle in early August and need to plan a visit to a few places closer to home the rest of the month. And he has to work on his college essay. Going to be a crazy summer!

DS finished school June 6. He's been working at our local zoo and finishing up his driving hours to get his license. He'll also be taking a class on writing college essays, and we're visiting a few colleges next week, so it'll be pretty busy summer.

And as soon as we get his last set of scores back, we're sending them to every school he thinks he might apply to, just to get them done. If he doesn't end up applying, I'll be out a few dollars but have less to keep track of, you know?

Left DD at our church camp 3 hours away to work yesterday. Her first stint will be just over 2 weeks, then about 3.5 weeks in July/August. As my sister and I were about to go, the other staff had a break until supper so we were able to leave her in their company. As of last night she was having fun and feeling comfortable with the others. We'll see how it is after a day of serving food and cleaning cabins!

Probably no more college visits/discussion until September now. Though most of the other staff is college age, so maybe she'll get some ideas at camp.

I'm not sure who she has asked-her current EE advisor also knows her from class and Academic Team but he is sooooo flaky. Sigh.

DD returns home from 2 weeks in Spain tonight. Her whiteboard has a list of about 8 things she needs to do either daily or weekly-volunteering at Boys and Girls Club, summer reading, college essays (that are due the first day of school for BOTH her English and Theory of Knowledge class-and of course they are different prompts), studying for the SAT (again), required reading for Duke TIP and working on her CV for applications/letters of recommendation. I'm tired typing it; can't imagine she is going to rest much this summer.

I know...at least Harvard was very specific and wanted DD only if she fit certain demographics (which she doesn't).

My mom essentially set up a trip for DD-she met some friends who are moving back to Boston and one of them had worked at BU. So DD and DM will fly up, stay with them, go on the "official" BU tour then he'll give her the unofficial tour. I'm just happy I don't have to go OR pay for a hotel. I even used frequent flier miles so this will be a relatively inexpensive trip. So she has 3 this summer and at some point we're going to have to road trip it to Gainesville and Tallahassee. I know she is also really interested in U of Chicago (and they keep sending her information) but I also don't want to go to Chicago (I'm a country mouse who doesn't really enjoy large cities). Hoping if I do the Florida schools road trip her dad will show up and do UC.

Ugh, that's rough. We're running into some of the same, though thankfully the one teacher DD really, really wants a recommendation from (he's the campus minister and her philosophy teacher, and he probably knows her better than any other school staff) is going to be there at least one more year. It was touch-and-go for a bit and she was so relieved that his contract was officially signed and done on Monday because she hated the idea of leaving for Japan and not finding out until August if he was going to be back. Her favorite English teacher left, though, so she's stressing a bit about the teachers she asked for the other two letters. Wellesley wants two teachers and one admin/other school staff, so the campus minister is serving as the latter.

She got her schedule the day she left too, which is something else settled that she didn't think would be. She's not thrilled - AP Bio and Environmental Sci. are being offered the same hour, as are AP Calc and Honors Stats, so she had to choose between some classes she really wanted. But I think in the long run she'll be happier. She's still got 3 AP and one honors class but she'll also have a free hour and an art class so she'll have a bit of breathing room to enjoy her senior year without quite as heavy a workload as this year.
