Palm trees blocking balcony-OKW?

I think TrudyZ just nailed what caused the concern on this thread. I posted earlier about two times in a row I received the "tree packed" balcony. I would now not hessitate to mention to the OKW staff that a little trimming would help the view. More like Magical Princess last statment, not the first which did give us the "clear cut" vission. The room I had I knew there was the golf course and water view just beyond the trees. If they removed (thinned out) a few branches it would provide a nice view, still provide privacy to the sides of the balcony, and not distract from the beautiful landscaping. Landscaping and trees do require maintenance and that is all we are talking about.

Again, there are far too many people who like to blow things out of porporation and then choose to let things spiral and so on and so forth.

I will REPOST my original quote as you did and that is EXACTLY what they did:

"When they came to "trim" - they MEGA trimmed! I mean they were yanking Palm Trees leave assortments from EVERYWHERE and literally "hacking" down the Bamboo Trees! I was SO impressed!!"

They 100% were yanking palm tree LEAVES to the point of which we had NO IDEA there were other rooms to the left of our balcony and after they trimmed all the excess, mostly DEAD palm tree leave out of the way, there was a nice view of other balconies and some of the grounds below.

As far as the bamboo trees - I never asked that they HACK them down - OKW chose to do that! They were extremely overgrown even hanging onto the balcony of our unit as well as the neighboring unit! Please do not blame ME for OKW's choice!!

Please note there was ANOTHER tree/bush like thing that was also part of the blocking view and the man specifically told me he could only trim a little bit on that because it was a DIFFERENT tree and it was to be treated DIFFERENTLY or else it would die.

So finally, OKW definitely had all the trees' best interests at heart they really did, so you can all rest assured on that point!!!

Trudy, if you call this thread drama, then I think that's pretty sad. They are only trees!!! I think there are obviously posters who like to do nothing but contradict and argue almost anything one posts and to me that's pretty sad. I refuse to get caught up in it, that's why I don't visit the debate board as it's pretty much a joke!!

Anyway, I'm a very happy m ember now so when I request for the trees to be trimmed in the future, you can get mad, but you can't say I'm not a member!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEE

LOL! When I read the thread about your surprise membership I was thinking, well now she can go back and say she is a member!

I'm not sure what happened in this case but I do think OKW does try to keep the trees/bushes trimmed. When first cut, they may provide more view than some members prefer. However, they grow back quickly. I don't think they'll cut "on demand" but they will probably take a look and see whether it's time to give the trees a trim.

I don't know how many people here are well-aquainted with the types of trees around OKW, but most of them are Washingtonian Palms-very hardy, fast growing. I've lived up north with Oaks and Maples, these are nothing like that. ALthough I love them, I'm quite sure they'll be well-grown back soon. We have them all over our back yard and believe me, they grow fast!!! So I'm quite sure there'll be plenty of foliage for us. Besides, from what I've heard of the Disney gardeners (and hopefully that includes the tree-trimmers), they're very knowledgeable and wouldn't do any damage.

Yes we have some of those in our yard.At least the ones at OKW didn't come with Scorpions as ours did. Had to move to a hotel for 2 days. This thread sure made for entertaining reading.Has a truce been called yet?It was starting to get brutal.:(

We just made plans to go Jan 1st (yahoo) and we will inspect all the balconies and give all of you a full report- if we don't get kicked out for peeping! LOL:jester:

I read through this thread and found the negative responses over the top and a bit mean spirited. If I got a studio that was overgrown I would call...in fact I got a first floor studio that was well surrounded by foliage...but I still had a view...if I had been on the second floor you can be sure I would have called because the tree was growing into the balcony.

dense foliage does attract wildlife...I would prefer that it were a touch less thick than sharing my balcony with 4 footed critters. And..if the danger from golfballs was that great then the OKW owners should be agitating for screened balconies not roasting a poor princess who had the audacity to voice her complaint.

We visited OKW this summer and I look forward to visiting there again next Spring. The room we stayed in, a studio, had the view off the balcony PARTIALLY blocked by foliage. I thought this was OK as we had a little privacy if we opened the back patio doors. In the front windows there is no foliage so we kept the blinds closed for privacy and I thought it made the room a bit dark.

I can't imagine that ANY foliage would be trimmed if it was not absolutely OK for the plants. One of the things I most love about all of WDW is the landscaping -- so lovely, and amazing in such a hot climate as Florida's! I think one of the great things about OKW is that it is so lush. It makes visiting in March -- when it is still dead, gray winter in Indiana -- extra special. OKW looks magical to me because the plants are established, large, sometimes "overgrown." Everyone has their own opinions about this. I would rather see the plants than the golf course, but to each his or her own.

I have no problem with the vegetation one way or the other. The views can be wonderful, but privacy is also a good thing. At some times more than others apparently (LOL).

My only complaint is that during the times when we have had an abundance of foliage we have also had an abundance of birds. They get quite bold and loud, especially if you have any type of food with you.

I guess one must take the good with the bad. As in all things in life. I would still rather be there with birds in my ear, than here getting ready to go to work tommorrow !
