Paid FP options coming soon to WDW?

How could recovery fast passes be given out now? like today?
When I was there in February Mickeys run away railway broke down in the middle of the ride and we had to be evacuated. Everyone was directed to a cm with an iPad where that scanned our magicbands and was given a "anytime" fp

This make me think they could bring FP back whenever they want if they wanted to bring it back as it was. They would just need to turn it on since the basics of the system still seem to working.

giving one off FPs is totally different than instituting FP+.

I agree that it is different, but they still seem to be using the basics of FP+ for the recovery FP. They could have shut it down completely and gone back to paper FP (like they used to have for rider switch).

My sense is that giving people the anytime FPs is technologically different than enabling FP+ for everyone, which would involve syncing the FP system with the park reservation system.

Not the same system. Just because it uses the fp line doesn't make it a fp.

It is a new platform, so the technology is there for a new system or the old fp+ to be used. But it has to work without causing issues within the platform overall. One is more problematic at the moment. Managing singular fps for Das and other needs doesn't cripple the system

The Fastpass system is still running though, which makes sense for the multiple experience passes on attraction issues being an option.

Edit:

Unless this is not the legacy system and instead an upgraded version? But then there's Genie as well.

I think Disney cares quite a bit about the average consumer. If they were as Draconian as you suggest, they'd have gone to paid FPs in the first place and never made them free at all. Or at any point until now.

What they aren't likely to do is us a COVID rest to make something that was free into a charge.

The opinions people around here hold about Disney are truly mind-boggling. While Disney is expensive, they've never been guilty of the blantant money grabs people accuse them of. The worst most people say about them is "the parks used to be better because of X" and yet anything anyone can say that makes them look money-grubbing gets upvoted all the time.

I think because they have lost so much money since COVID started your going to see the paid FP system implemented which I am sure will cause a good majority of people to lose their minds regardless of the cost. They have got to make up revenue some how.

I was in AK today and there was a guy who could not get the restraints to fit on him in Flight of Passage. He waited ahead of us with his family for 1hr 45min in line. He was asked to leave the ride at the exit and when we came out there was a person from the attraction who was talking to the family telling them that since he could not ride the attraction she was going to him him and his entire family each 2 Recovery Fast Passes to be used within 24 hours on any attraction except for the newer ones.

Systems don’t just sit there to be turned on and off at will. It’s more complicated than that, especially when you need to add it onto a system that has new capabilities, like park reservations.

The massive difference between universal and Disney is the size of the parks. People go to universal for 2-3 days. They go to Disney for 5-7 days or more. Even $20/person per day would really add up. If Disney priced it like universal does, that would be so expensive that it would be the opposite of “customer focused.”

totally agree I am coming for 16 nights in May from the uk with 2 one year olds and I’m dreading not having fast pass if I can’t afford it

I just highly doubt Disney has been sitting around for months not working on it. If they want to bring it back, it's most likely already ready to go and be implemented ( when they feel like it )

Keep in mind how quickly all of this has happened. It’s been roughly 14 months since they had to close everything unexpectedly. Then they didn’t know when they could open back up. They opened back up with a brand new system (park reservations) about 11 months ago and have been dealing with hiring people back, scaling up the systems as they increase capacity, etc.

It’s not as though they’ve been sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Now they have to try to get FP+ to work with the reservation system and everything else. Not exactly simple.

They can just simply choose to turn off the park reservation system.
