Over-rated food that you have tried...

1900 Park Fare - the food wasn't good at all. They sat us in the side room where you could not see Cinderella and the Prince dance, and the Prince was rude, he didn't really seem to want to take a picture with my son at all.
Be Our Guest (lunch), but we loved dinner there though.
Cinnamon Rolls

I'm apparently alone so far in this one, but we had booked an Akershus breakfast and I was excited for the potatoes that were described over and over as the best breakfast food ever, "crack" potatoes, etc. Maybe it was just because all of our food was cold, but I didn't think they were anything special :confused3

For me some things that I would say are overrated.
  • Tonga Toast: Tried it for the first time in June... A big thick piece of toasted bread with virtually no banana in it.
  • Dole Whips: Soft serve and pineapple juice... I don't get it.
  • Zebra Domes: One and done for me.
  • Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding at Raglan Road: Was it good? Yes! Is it an out of body experience that so many seem to say it is? No.
  • LeCellier: For me the whole place. The Mushroom Filet is salty, can't stand the Campbell's Soup sauce or the Uncle Ben's Risotto that is served with it. Not wowed by the Maple Creme Brulee. I need more than just pretzel bread.

UGH same! Did not like LeCellier. I did not the filet was good and it had some syrupy sauce and the risotto was sooooo rich. Will not be back.

uh-oh, i just booked ltt for the first time, and to be honest the motivation was that ooey gooey desert. i figured it would be more special than that. hmmmmm.....
It's good, but it reminded me of a skillet cookie with ice cream thing you can get at many chain resturants

I will be staying at the Poly, and I have had breakfast at Kona before, but I have seen pictures of Tonga Toast and thought it didn't look to be super amazing, just huge and very sugary.
What is it like? It is greasy? Is the banana nice?

Same re funnel cake. I have never tried this either, is it not like even greasier doughnuts? (don't get me wrong, I love doughnuts but, increasing the surface area makes more oil soak in...

Freshness is what will separate a "meh" dessert from an aaaaammmmmaaaazing one. For instance...I got a cronut fresh out the fryer and it was one of the most delicious things I've ever tasted. I'm so obsessed that I will wait until a fresh batch is made because I know a cronut that has been sitting will never be as good as a hot fresh one. I think that's probably the same with funnel cakes, breads, pastries etc.

I personally think fresh, funnel cakes are much better than regular doughnuts. (We have a local doughnut shop that makes decadent doughnuts that I don't personally compare to regular doughnuts.) The only topping I like on funnel cakes is powdered sugar. Some of the heavier toppings make them too soggy for me. Others like fruit, ice cream etc. on them though.

Zebra domes. I've tried them a few times. They are ok but so many better things on the dessert menu at Boma

Carrot Cake Cookie. Kind of dry. Pretty meh. I had so been looking forward to it

I'm going with the Dole Whip.
Hear Hear! I'm with you. The way people carry on, I thought it was going to have some sort of unique taste to it that made you go, "OMG!" Um no...it's JUST pineapple soft serve ice cream. Nothing more, nothing less. We ate half of it and chucked it. We didn't get it.

Everything I ate at Boma including the aforementioned zebra domes. Much of the food we tried tasted like they melted cinnamon red-hot candies and dumped it on top.

I was so stoked to try it because so many people rave about it here. I don't know if we just hit it on a bad night.
No, you didn't. I can't ever find anything to eat there either. I like trying different things but there's something about Boma that gives me that, "what am I putting in my mouth" feeling. Not worth the price.

Maybe it's just Disney's attempt at African food? IDK I've never eaten authentic African cuisine. I tried this stew in a cute puff pastry at the Epcot Food & Wine Festival and hated it for the same reason. It tasted like vegetables doused with cinnamon.

School bread for me too, definitely not bad, but just meh.
Oh yeah, I forgot about this one! It was just like some kind of donut with that sugary frosting in it! yuk! It always surprises me what people go on and on about. I've learned to stop listening and just go with what looks good to me. I'm always let down and I wonder if people grew up in an orphanage with nothing but gruel to compare with. lol I do like the Rice Cream there in Norway though.

:wizard: Chef's de France.....awful dinner and just as awful service. Can't understand the great reviews it gets.
ooh yes! If I thought hard enough, I could tell you EXACTLY which Lean Cuisine that "short rib" thing is. I eat Lean Cuisines all the dang time so you can imagine the look on my face when I paid like $30 for one.

maybe so. I've tried Boma 3 times because I just love the atmosphere, but all 3 times the food is just a little too out there for me. There's not even that ONE thing that you say, "ooh, I could just eat nothing but this and be happy!" The soups are good, but I'm not about paying $40 for soup.

I don't understand this. There's nothing I've ever eaten or will ever eat that could possibly satisfy that, except perhaps for manna literally from heaven. I'd never use that as a criterion for how good a restaurant is.

Are you saying that a restaurant isn't worth recommending unless it blows you away?
