Over-rated food that you have tried...

  • School Bread
  • BOG breakfast
  • Les Halles Boulangerie and Pastisserie
  • 50s Prime Time Cafe (I think we just happened to have a really bad experience, though. YMMV)

Interesting way to express it.

The Kringla menu describes it as a sweet cardamom bun with vanilla creme custard and topped with glazed and toasted coconut. I don't think I've ever had it, so I can't comment if it actually lives up to that description. Presuming it's a yeast bun and that it's not made in small batches nearby throughout the day, I can imagine getting a stale one later in the day.

But I would think it takes a good palate to appreciate the cardamom, and I can't imagine how anyone could miss the coconut unless the coconut was itself missing. Which makes me wonder whether it might not be the people with no palate who aren't impressed and those with a good palate who appreciate it. Or maybe it really doesn't live up to its description. Or perhaps time of day is a strong factor. So now not only am I tempted to try it, but I'm tempted to try it early.

In any event, we each have our own preferences. I don't think it's necessary to criticize other people's palate just because it's different.

I have a "good palate" and I did not like school bread. I just dislike cardamom.

Earl of Sandwich. I can't for the life of me figure out why that place has such a cult following.

Oh, man. I love EoS. The ingredients are fresh (no pale tomatoes or limp lettuce), the bread is fresh (I could eat a loaf plain!), and the service is nice, quick, and cheap. If it was convenient, I would make this a daily occurrence. We have never had a bad meal here...20+ times.

THE BEST FOOD ON THE PLANET!

Yes, I am one of those who raves about Boma, and the Zebra Domes...During our last trip, I ate four each day. NO LIE.

I could so do that! YUM!

BOG Breakfast "Over Rated"
Epcot "Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich!" Taste like ice cream in burnt warm bread.

I'm going to jump on the zebra dome band wagon. I read SO much about them before our first trip and couldn't wait to try them...I seriously don't understand what the hype is about.

My 2nd would be Tonga toast...another I read all about so chose to order. It had amazing potential but I figured it would be stuffed full of deliciousness but it was a gigantic piece of bread with a small bite of filling... boo

For me some things that I would say are overrated.
  • Tonga Toast: Tried it for the first time in June... A big thick piece of toasted bread with virtually no banana in it.
  • Dole Whips: Soft serve and pineapple juice... I don't get it.
  • Zebra Domes: One and done for me.
  • Ger's Bread & Butter Pudding at Raglan Road: Was it good? Yes! Is it an out of body experience that so many seem to say it is? No.
  • LeCellier: For me the whole place. The Mushroom Filet is salty, can't stand the Campbell's Soup sauce or the Uncle Ben's Risotto that is served with it. Not wowed by the Maple Creme Brulee. I need more than just pretzel bread.

The French Onion Soup at BoG gets lots of rave reviews, but to me it's virtually tasteless. Meh.

Steak at Le Cellier.
Dole whip
Steak at Le Cellier - yeah it boggles my mind with all the great reviews. Yes it may be slightly better than the outback - but at a much higher price. I am amazed so many people say it is the best steak they have ever had...I guess they have not been to Shula's, Morton's, the Capitol grille or even the Keg - just to name a handful of places that as far better IMO

Dole whip - it's OK - but not something I go for specifically and must have - this is one of those things I think people have fond memory's of from their first visit and that factors into their love of it

Epcot "Brioche Ice Cream Sandwich!" Taste like ice cream in burnt warm bread.
I didn't get a burnt one - but it was not very impressive after all the hype.
I'll stick to the gelato martini

I'll add another - the fish & chips at Yorkshire in Epcot - people rave about it - Ive never got anything but average (at best) fish and limp fries.

It is better than Cooke's of Dublin in DS though - they are not even close to a real chip shop

I'm in the camp of pretty much everything that someone has raved about that I decided to go out of my way to try sort of fell flat.

The only things that I really was like "ok this was pretty close to the hype" is tipsy ducks in love drink from China. Ooey gooey toffee cake at LTT. And I really loved the gravy and cheese waffle fries in frontierland but of course they took those away.

For me, Dole Whip. Eh!
And that Turkey leg!
I love Turkey, and always wanted to try it
I got so grossed out, lol
