Over-rated food that you have tried...

Zebra domes - tasted like packaged snack cakes albeit with a little rum flavor
Dole whip - I don't get the hype, it's just expensive pineapple flavored soft serve
Lunch at BOG - poor quality, like they microwaved a Costco brand frozen quiche and dumped some bagged arugula next to it. Same low quality for the tiny dessert eclair
Ooey gooey toffee cake at LTT - highly processed and overly sweet

I forgot about the ooey gooey toffee cake at LTT. My family all actually liked it, but it's a blondie with heath pieces and store bought ice cream on top. I don't get the hype.

I guess I get hype about the Dole Whip and maybe deep fried things like Tonga Toast because most people aren't easily making that at home. (And I've had "whips" from local places that aren't quite as good as Disney, consistency is off a little). I don't like Zebra domes, but I get that they aren't easy to mass produce, so if you like them you get them at Disney. Same with turkey legs.

BUT a pan of blondies with ice cream is SOOO easy to make at home. Same goes for all the sundaes, milkshakes, etc. made with Edy's ice cream around property.

Everything I ate at Boma including the aforementioned zebra domes. Much of the food we tried tasted like they melted cinnamon red-hot candies and dumped it on top.

I was so stoked to try it because so many people rave about it here. I don't know if we just hit it on a bad night.

Now I don't feel so weird lol. Agree with this except love the Zebra Domes! Boma was so nasty we will never eat there again.
Also on the list:
flatbreads at Cali Grill
Dole Whip
Tonga Toast
fried fish at Rose & Crown (QS is yummy though)

Mostly love and look forward to the food at WDW though.

Turkey legs-just the smell of them is revolting
BOG cupcakes-stale, too sweet and dry-my local grocery has better never mind a quality bakery
Popcorn-it is just popcorn-I don't get the hype at all
IMO, this is true for Disney pastries/baked goods in general. They don't compare to a really good bakery. Our grocery stores have similar or better quality than most of them. Les Halles Boulangerie-Patisserie can be an exception, but some of their pastries are no better than grocery store quality as well. I'm convinced the generous reviews are based on location not taste. Everything tastes better on vacation. :p

I would submit any baked good is overrated from what you can get at your local quality bakery.

Absolutely agree! I tried a vanilla cupcake and a small red velvet cupcake at Chef Mickey's recently and they were both dry. I also tried the BB-8 lemon cupcake at Hollywood Studios and it was dry as well. The baked goods look tempting but, in my opinion, they don't taste as good as they look!

I'm going to have to say everywhere and everything except Victoria and Albert's. We go and still eat knowing we aren't getting the best food experience.

I love reading all of these. I've never had a dole whip, school bread, tonga toast, Via Napoli pizza, zebra domes, turkey legs or just about anything else on this list...I guess I need to get out more. FWIW, our lunch at BOG was very good and even the picky 14 going on 25 year old ate his food.

uh-oh, i just booked ltt for the first time, and to be honest the motivation was that ooey gooey desert. i figured it would be more special than that. hmmmmm.....

:wizard: Chef's de France.....awful dinner and just as awful service. Can't understand the great reviews it gets.
i had the worst meal there too and the service was not good. it was the first time i had a bad experience there tho but it pretty much made me not want to go back. in the past it had been ok, never amazing , but pretty good.

my biggest disappointment at a disney restaurant was definitely ohana. to be fair, we clearly just had a bad experience because so many people love it. i was soooooo excited to try it and liked it until the meat, including poultry, arrived very undercooked. we actually called a manager over because i wanted her to be aware of it from a food safety standpoint. this was quite a few years ago. she looked at it, raised her eyebrows in agreement. took it away and gave us some sort of % off which i was not looking for. i just have a serious issue with undercooked meats, again , especially poultry. it is dark in there so not sure if that plays a part but i have to think it was just a one time thing. the trouble is that i have had no desire to go back since. guess i need to just get over it because i could always request that our food be thoroughly cooked

I agree....i enjoyed my meal there for the atmosphere....but the food was so so at best

Had my first Dole whip in over 30 trips a few weeks ago....my review....a perfectly good soft serve ice cream ruined with copious amounts of sicky sweet pineapple!

Got to agree- I heard so many people rave about the cinnamon rolls on main street in MK - maybe if you got them at just the right time - but other than that nothing remotely special

I think a lot of it is just nostalgia - people have good memories of those as a kid or from their first visit and that affects their enjoyment

I'd have to say Casey's hot dogs are way overrated - for a very long time now they have been awful

Yes: when you used to eating a good Sahlen's footlong here, Casey's dogs are yucky.

School Bread is just a stale roll injected with vanilla pudding. I can see why the general public with little to no palate love this stuff. But I don't think i'll be order it ever again.
:rotfl2:I love the school bread.

I'm assuming since you have such a sophisticated palate, you're a chef in some snazzy restaurant...:ssst:

Forgive my ignorance...we have never stayed at AKL or eaten at any of the restaurants there. So many folks have mentioned Zebra Domes in this thread, and I have no idea what they are. They were mentioned enough that they piqued my curiosity. I went to the WDW website and looked at both The Mara and Boma's menus and I couldn't find a Zebra Dome. Help a gal out...what is a Zebra Dome? :confused3 :goodvibes

THE BEST FOOD ON THE PLANET!

Yes, I am one of those who raves about Boma, and the Zebra Domes...During our last trip, I ate four each day. NO LIE.

Basically everything I have tried that has been produced by a restaurant branded by the "Disney" name has been overrated, IMO, with ONE notable exception: Napa Rose at the Grand Californian. I have eaten there no less than 8 times and EVERY single meal has been completely exquisite. The rest is anywhere from edible to "very good." But, I can't think of one thing that is "to die for" at WDW...
