Our thread for the Minnie!

Hey everyone! This is getting closer and closer and I am getting nervous but excited :woohoo:

I have been working hard getting back into shape since having my son in August last year, but progress is REALLY slow....so I am hoping I can at least do the minnie in the required time as to not get "swept up"!

I am going to try to be at EoS, but will need to bring my SO and son if that is alright...no girls weekend for me :p But I am really excited to know my "guys' will be at the finish waiting for me :yay:

Anyone know why they aren't running buses to the start line?

Thanks for the link. I mailed in our registrations with the AP discount form, so I hope everything is OK.

After reading the instructions, I am wishing I signed up for the 1 mile instead of the 5K. I'm thinking that with the way my knees have been maintaining the pace will be a challenge! Hopefully they will not be too strict with the 15 min mile requirement. I'll do my best to make it.

Kamgen-I think they only run buses to the start line for the marathon which is a huge event. They dont do it for the 10k's & I'm pretty sure not for any of the other events. And yes you can bring SO & DS to EOS. Look forward to meeting you!!

Tiffj- thanks for the information. Not sure how I will get to the start. I don't want to make my SO get up and bring the baby out to drop me off...but sometimes the baby is up that early, so we will see! We are staying at SSR so it shouldn't be too difficult. Our resort plans are different now too...we are at SSR Friday-Sunday and BWV Sunday-Friday.....
We will most likely be at EoS- 2 adults and one infant ;)

Nancy- I am starting to feel like I should be doing the 5 not the 15!! I am not sure I can keep the pace, but I am going to give it my best!!! That is all we can do! :goodvibes

Hope everyone has a nice weekend!

I have a little more hope for my pace today! I finally had a good wog - the first time I have done much of any jogging sinec my knee injections. It felt really good, and my pace was about 16 min which is way better than I have been doing lately. I think it would have been even better but I misread my watch at my first half mile mark and thought I was really slow. I got discouraged by that and slowed down a bit, then decided to just go for it anyway. Then at the 1.5 mile mark I realized my watch was counting DOWN because I had purposely set the timer instead of the stopwatch. I had done a 6 min half mile, not the 9 min I thought it took me! DUH!!! I plan to keep pushing my pace for the next 2 weeks, then give it my best shot on race day.

My sister and I will be doing the 1K. We could possibly do the 5K, but we'll start small. We'll be staying at ASMu and taking a cab to get to DTD that morning. I don't expect that we'll make the EOS meet, however if we're in DTD at that time, we'll stop by.

Go Minnie! Go Minnie! Go Minnie!

:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

I won't be there and have MAJOR medal envy. Good luck to all who are participating. You are all doing a great job!

Cam, thanks for listening to me the other day. (I called to whine about not going...sorry)

Actually, Lily, thank YOU for calling! It was so wonderful to hear your voice and to absorb your positive outlook and motivation. The Minnie just won't be the same without you, but you will be in our thoughts! :grouphug:

Oh My Gosh, I cannot believe the Minnie is soon to be a week away. I have not been running much but I"m going to get out their and run and do my best. I'm so excited...will some one be so kind and catch me up on if we are doing a meet anywhere? Also is anyone else staying at the Caribbean Beach resort? I tried getting the Coronado and they were full.

Hi Kim...I am staying at POR, and we are having a meet on Saturday at Earl of Sandwich I think it is at 4:30pm??? Hope to see you there!!!

I cannot belive it is only 12 days away as well. I am getting so excited and nervous and the same time!! See ya real soon!!! :mickeyjum

Disneyfan,

Thank You so much! I'm so excited, I'm headed to Vegas Sunday until next Thursday and then Friday I Go to WDW. I have two exciting trips coming up and I'm about to burst :)

Wow, Kim, I thought I had a busy week leading into the Minnie!

We are just going to a baseball game and then a day at the beach before heading back home with a stop at the Expo on the way.

Mornin' All:

Kim, I'm aslo doing Goofy, but w/ DH. Goofy is definitely an appropriate description!

Anyone doing both the 5K and 15K? I'm running the 5K alone and run/ walking the 15K with DD. It's a week before we go and I'm getting really nervous and feeling unprepared. I'd really love to be at EOS, but we're having a dinner at the same time with 4 generations of my family's women in attendance...I think it's kinda cool considering the focus of the weekend being a women's event.

D.

disneybelle-sorry you won't be at EOS but that is neat having 4 generations participate in this event :thumbsup2 I had thought about doing the 5k (my own "Minnie Goofy" ) but I am still having a little problem with the tendonitis in the ankles & am afraid I will hurt it during the 5k & not be able to do the 15k like I want.

Lily-thanks for the well wishes. I'm sorry you wont be able to be there but we'll be thinking about you :grouphug:

8 days from right now I will be on a plane headed to Orlando (really early flight) I cant wait!!!! I have my new shorts, I have my new sandals, I'm READY FREADY :cool1: :cool1:

OK...I am really feeling nervous, but excited. I have a few questions...

If we arrive at MCO at 12:45pm on Friday, and get our rental car(we do not have to get our luggage as we are going to pack everything in our carry-on to save time) and go to the expo, how long are e going to be at the expo??? I want to make dinner ressies, and we are thinking about hitting Epcot as they are open late on Friday. Do we have to check-in to our hotel before we can go to EMH's???? I have never done a marathon, so can you tell me what should be in my suitcase?? What is important not to forget??? What should I wear as far as clothes go??? Please help a really nervous marathon newbie!!! THANKS!!!!!!

I can help with some of your questions. Yes, you will have to check in before you can use EMH. THey use your resort key to identify who is eligible for it.

How long you are at the expo just depends. We had to wait in line for the 1/2 to get our chip & stuff so it took a while but when we went back later, there wasnt a line. But getting there as early as you are, it shouldnt be a problem to go to dinner. It took us about 1 hr to get thru the line and that was with it wrapped around the expo & back out to the parking lot, it actually moved pretty fast for how many people were there. I dont think there will be near that many people for the Minne.

As far as clothes for the race, wear as little as possible. It will be HOT! You will need race shoes, shorts, top, socks, gu or shot blocks if you carry them, sunscreen. Bring whatever you've been used to training in.

Wow, everyone! I am getting so psyched about seeing everyone in just 9 days! I leave a week from tomorrow. Rhonda and I will arrive separately at MCO about 8:30pm Friday and then go to check in at SSR. We are planning to head to PI that night and hopefully, the Adventurers Club. So, if there are any WISHers around that night that want to join us for a "Kungaloosh" we'd love to see you.

D. -- sorry you wont' be joining us at EoS, but what an amazing, momentous event to have four generations in one place at one time. Enjoy! And take LOTS of pix!

Disneyfanz04 -- Tiff has hit all the high-lights for packing, I think. I would suggest some heavy duty sunscreen for the back of your calves and for your face. Especially when you are sweating and your face is salty, it is easy to get a nasty burn. I'd also suggest sunglasses or a visor. I also put sport bra, ponytail holder, garmin, fanny pack/water bottle, powerade on my list. There will be plenty of water on the course, but I will need powerade and there is only one kind I can tolerate, so I always bring my own.

Thanks for the answers...so do you carry the bottle of powerade, or do you put it in your fanny pack??? Does the fanny pack bother you when you are running/walking??? What is garmin??? Thanks again for answering all my questions!!! :)

I have a fanny pack that holds a 20 oz. bottle of water on a slant in the small of my back. I fill the bottle with 1/2 water and 1/2 orange powerade (the only electrolyte beverage my stomach can tolerate) and put it in the fridge the night before the race. Disney was really good during the 1/2 about having lots of drink stations, but I really didn't want to try anything new on race day, so I brought my own.

I use the fanny pack every time I train with a long walk/jog ("wog"), so I am very used to it. It doesn't chafe and it has a pouch that is big enough for a power bar, some sport jelly beans, kleenex, lip balm, my camera and my cell phone. It is absolutely perfect and I LOVE having everything at hand.

I think the thing I learned over the course of training last year was not to do anything new on race day. No new shoes, no new socks, no different tee shirt, no cute new shorts, etc. It just seems like over a distance something new could chafe or rub or just annoy me. So, my plan is to use whatever I am most comfortable with.

Oh, on your last question. A garmin is the brand name of a wrist watch type item that keeps track of time and pace and distance. I got it last July and have used it on every outdoor training session I have done, so that I could keep track of my progress. A watch is perfectly fine if you want to have some idea of how well you are keeping pace.

Feel free to ask any more questions. It is all making me very psyched for the event! :cool1: :Pinkbounc

I am starting to get really excited too - and nervous as all heck! This is my first race ever.

I am also going to wear a fanny pack - I am going to need to bring a disposable camera for pics with the characters. At the very least, I need to have my rescue inhaler on me during the race. And knowing DH, he'll be calling me on my cell from NH during the race. :) So I better bring that. Nevermind, the phone is indispensable during the race to meet up with my family/friends. Chad hates being left out of anything! And me going to Disney without him is killing him!

I still think it's quite the riot when I am out walking/running - fanny pack, hat, sunglasses, mp3 player on my waist, garmin on my wrist. All this for a "free" sport - ha!

I'll keep in mind that you will be at PI on Friday night, Cam. We are arriving late Thursday and have no specific plans Friday other than registering and hitting some parks. If we show up, I'm a redhead - you can't miss me! I still haven't called to confirm our registration - I have to remember to do that tomorrow at work!
