Our thread for the Minnie!

In a mere WEEK we'll be on a plane to WDW for the Minnie!!! I am getting so psyched also. However, I am suffering with a terrible chest cold and I am anxious and nervous about kicking it before I leave. Any suggestions or just some :wizard: would be really appreciated.

CAM - great answers!! I remember your list from the marathon in January and I had printed it out as a checklist for packing. It worked like a charm :)
DH and I aren't getting into MCO until 10:00 p.m. on Friday and then we have to check in at the Peabody, so most likely we won't make it over to PI. However, I am looking forward to seeing everyone at EOS on Saturday!!

Happy training to all this weekend :cheer2:

I am so nervous....we were out of town for a week and I got NO workouts in....and the past two days, my stomach has been killing me, so not much activity! :sad2: I am worried I won't make it!! :rolleyes2
But, I am going to try.....I will just do my best and hope I can maintain the pace....so far I have not gone the total 9.3 miles at that pace....but I will just have faith that I can make it....

Personally, I usually don't carry much with me...I found in the 1/2 that things were too distracting. But we will see.....

Are we wearing certain colors or WISH identifying objects???

Can't wait to see you all! :cheer2:

Who's doing which race? It sounds like most of you are doing the 15K on Sunday - I'm only doing the 5K on Sat. I want to know who I'm looking for!

Cam - I LOVE your list! Since it's my first race ever too, it should be a lot of help, although I don't think I'm going to need as much for a 5K as for the 15K. And I haven't trained with anything other than my cell phone on occasion, but I'm also not planning on much of a pace since I'm still mostly injured.

Jackie

Cam-I'm so bummed. I don't have time for EOS and now I'll miss an opportunity for Adventureer's Club. I love the Adventurer's Club, but can never get anyone to drag along with me. I'll be turning in early Friday night for the 5K.

Disneybelle -- If you are going to the post-race celebration Sunday night, we might end up seeing you there. We have a 9:15 ADR for O'Hana's (gotta see WISHES even if we aren't going to the MK) and then heading over to Adventurer's Club which may be my last visit ever. I have heard it is closing and I won't be back until Marathon Weekend 2007 - -no idea if it will still be open then.

Kamy -- I know what you mean. I haven't gone 9.3 since the 1/2 and the longest workout I have done since then was close to 8. Worse, I know my hip can totally derail my pacing effort.

Jackie -- What an exciting first race for you! And don't say "only the 5K" -- look around you in real life and count how many people you know have done a 5K or longer event. It is an awesome acomplishment. I remember my first one in March 2005 and LOVE having that "first 5K" memory. Yours will be really awesome for having done it in WDW!!!

Glad you like the list. If I were doing the 5K, I'd just rely on the water stops and probably wouldn't carry the powerade/water mix. I also would only take the sport jelly beans and not the power bar. I don't think I'd take an MP3 player, either, since I think I would spend most of my time looking around and enjoying the atmosphere, anyway. Everything else, I'd still probably carry.

I am glad I am not the only one! :goodvibes
I am still not feeling well, so it stinks :guilty:
I hope to just feel better as the week progresses....and pray they don't sweep too soon!! ;)

I cannot wait to see everyone and get down to WDW!!!! :cheer2:
Does anyone have people going to be along the route to cheer them on?? My family has picked a few spots to try and be there for encouragement...so that should help me! :woohoo:

Now who would forget to put their chip on their shoe :teeth:

We'll be coming up Sat night. Hope to leave here by 4pm, so that puts us in Orlando by 6pm. I'll be wearing my lime green WISH shirt. It has chimera on the front and mel on the back so please say hi if you see me since I'll miss you guys at EOS!

I'm definitely toning it down for this race...just haven't trained as well as I did for the half. DD13 and I did W3/R2 for 5 miles then walked the rest and managed a 14:34 pace, so I think we'll be okay! I'd like to do a good, solid 5 miles then have time to take pictures once we get to MGM and EPCOT.

I'm hoping to make this a yearly 'girls' weekend tradition. We'll see y'all there!

I can not believe that it is almost here :cool1: :cool1:

I am still planning on going to EOS (in fact I am excited about it--I love EOS). I did my 8 miles yesterday and then I went to Disney for 9 hours, my legs are very tired!!

I can not wait to meet all of you next week and hoping I DON'T meet any of you on the sweeper bus :rotfl:

I'm getting a bit nervous about this weekend! It's almost here! A few questions for those that have done it before. I just like to know what to expect. Do people talk to you? I mean, if we are in our 6th mile, pretty tired (because I've never done 15K in my life) and someone else is doing about my same pace. Will people chit chat or is everyone wearing headphones? Also someone mentioned taking Motrin before the race? I've never done that before I run either. Should I? I am a bit worried I will get a headache--is taking Motrin a good idea or not if I've never done it when running? Also, I really don't think I want to carry any extra weight--ie phone, camera. Is that OK or will I miss a lot? And right now I can do 4 miles under 11 minute miles but I know I will slow down a bit that last half--and especially if I walk some. When does the sweeper come along? Do we need to be worried constantly or is it pretty obviously that you are the last person and "need a lift." Thanks for all the help if anyone has the answers!! Happy last week of training. I'm cramming!

Another 5K wogger here! We do have to find a way to meet up that AM.

I will also be at the Expo early Fri. We will be stopping there on our way home from Sarasota, but not staying long as I want to get home for a pre-race rest day.

I am not sure of my shirt yet as I am still watching the weather, but I am expecting it to be HOT!!!! All the local stations are saying temps in the 90's for Thurs & Fri, no reports yet for the weekend.

I do have a lime green DIS button that I can wear, and maybe I can convince DH to wear his, too.

deb- I expect it will be a VERY friendly, very chatty group. At the 1/2 we talked to different people all along the way. Great atmosphere, very fun race. Everyone is there to have a good time & they all love Disney! I took ibuprofen before the race to help with my ankles. As long as you are used to taking Motrin you should be fine, just dont try anything new. Your body may not like it. They told us ahead of time the sweep points for the 1/2 but I havent see where they are for this race so no answer for you there. There will be alot of walkers there, don't worry about walking a good bit of the race, just enjoy the whole experience. I carried a disposable camera & took pics of me & mom with the characters along the way. It was fun to have pics of the actual race stuff, but not everyone did that. Good luck!

Nancy-yes, I am already dreading the heat! :sunny:

kamgen- :wizard: hope you get feeling better soon! We are doing a girls weekend so we dont have a cheer squad for this race.

What time are we meeting Saturday? Is it 4:30?

Happy Monday!!

Holy hotness predicted for the weekend :sunny: Being a northern NY'er, I am in for quite a shock. Can any Floridians comment on the humidity levels? I was planning on wearing my WISH shirt but now I may just be wearing a long sports bra top.

DH and I both did our last 9 mile training runs yesterday, so we're both feeling fine. We also plan on taking it easy for the race and just having a great time. I hope everyone enjoys the taper this week and has safe travels to WDW.

Tiff - It is either 4:00 or 4:30 for EOS.

debm - it should be a very social race. I have heard it's better to take Tylenol as opposed to ibuprofen pre-race.

Mel - I'll look for you :)

Kamgen - No cheering squad for dh and I. They definitely do help when you need a little lift. I hope you feel better real soon.

It has been HOT lately but not terribly humid (in fact it is really, really dry here!). We had a beautiful weekend this weekend--it was almost cool when I started my 8 miler on Saturday, but that is over :sad1:

Hi, everyone! I have a crazy week at work before I leave mid-day Friday, so I wanted to at least touch base on a few things.

I believe we all agreed to meet at Earl of Sandwich at Downtown Disney at 4:30. Rhonda and I will be coming from 2:00 tea at the Grand Floridian, so I am not sure if we will be there right at 4:30, but will look forward to seeing you all as soon as possible. Maybe the earlier people can find a bunch of tables together to save some space for the late arrivals.

For anyone that is interested -- there is a 12 or 12:30 talk at the expo that is a review of the race course for the 15K and last-minute race tips. We went to this talk for the 1/2 and it was very helpful -- a review of locations for water, powerade, port-a-potties, some racer etitquette stuff, etc.

Mel -- I still think it is interesting that I hadn't remembered to put the chip on my list for the 1/2 and only remembered because I was going through our race bag the night before and found it in there. Of course, we immediately put them on our shoes and as soon as I got home, I added it to my "night before" event reminder list.

By the way, I finally found a top I like -- long enough to cover my bulges in bike shorts but not a dark color. It is wicking material and I found it at EMS on the men's rack -- a salmon colored oversized tee shirt. I will probably have a lime green ribbon on my race number, and I have a lime green ponytail holder as the zipper pull on my fanny pack. Hopefully, we will see a lot of WISHers on the course.

Is anyone else even a little worried about the heat predicted for SUnday's Minnie? I live in New England so that "hottest" it has been here on a run for me is like mid-60s. I MELT in the heat and am worried about Sunday.

Any good pointers out there for anyone?
Thanks
Kris

Hey everyone! Thanks for the get well wishes. I made a dr appt for tomorrow just to make sure things are okay...just feeling crappy for days and days...yuck! :guilty:

debm- oh, chatty..yes, I will chat...I will be alone and need to chat! ;) I found it helpful in the 1/2 to have people to talk to and keep you going...I don't wear headphones so hopefully there will be lots of chatty folks out there!

Cam- I found a shirt I liked too! Got it at Target! It is Hot Pink and black tank style and besides the fact that the black is going to be HOT :furious: I like the way it fits and feels.
Target also has really nice racerback Champion sports bras in ALL sizes, so that was a plus. Going to wear my old black biker style shorts so no lime green here...was going to do something creative with the shirt, but with not feeling well, opted not too....
I am hoping to hit the race talk at the Expo too!

I cannot believe it is this weekend! And for all you who have no cheering section, my man and my little man (LOL!) will be there! :cheer2:

:cheer2: We're going to Walt Disney World!! :cheer2:
Because the the 15K is at 6:30 in the morning, the heat and humidity should not be a problem until at least 10. We'll be done by then!! :yay: It will be warmer than 60, but not stifling, sticky hot for the race. The low is predicted to be 66, so it should be great. right, Mel?
debm DON'T DO ANYTHING NEW ON RACE DAY! No new shoes, clothes, food. NOTHING If you haven't been training with it, don't do it on the big day. You still have this week to try the ibprofen/Motrin if it is a real concern for you, right? This is the first year for the Minnie, so we don't know what to expect along the route as far as encouragement/entertainment on the sidelines..but it's DISNEY! You might want to rethink a disposable camera..Since this is a Women's event, I'm sure there will be talkers!! :lmao: You can do 4 miles in under 11 min/mile and you are worried about being swept??!!! I'll wave at you as you pass me plodding along (praying that I am..) at a 15 min/mile!! :rotfl2: As far as "the sweeper coming along", There will be pick up points along the course to transport you to the finish line if you are not able to maintain the 15 minute per mile pace.. Someone else explained that the pace clock starts when the last person crosses the start. So, those up front or in the middle really have a "cushion" in their pacing. I'm thinking how sad for that person who is LAST to start with because they knew they weren't fast and then the fast people get extra time! :rotfl: Just remember our mantra DFL>DNF>>DNS

Cam Is that Expo talk on Saturday? Somebody take notes and tell us at the meet! High tea!! How loverly!! :tink:
Kamgen Feel Better!! pixiedust:

MDM, for those participating in the 5K and the 15K, when you pick up your race packet at the Expo, it will include a timing chip. I rented one at the CCC 10K. It's about the size of a quarter and you thread your shoelaces on one shoe through it when you tie your laces. It will electronically register your true start time when you step on the mat that will be stretched across the start and your finish time when you step on the mat stretched across the finish line. Sometimes you'll hear people refer to "clock time" and "chip time." Because everyone doesn't start at the same time, the start people usually will say, "Look at the clock when you cross the start, so you'll know how much time to take off from the time posted at the finish line."

Check out Championship Chip's website for a picture.

http://www.championchip.com/chips/

When you really get into running and doing events. you can buy your own chip. They come in all kinds of designs...even a Mickey Mouse one!! Hope this helps! :sunny: Anne
