OT ~ DD came from school with a busted lip...

My daughter who is now in lst grade kept getting hit by two boys on the playground and not one of the monitors on the playground would help her. When I went to the teacher, she reported ME to the principal for being mean to her. WHAT A JOKE. Long story shortened, we withdrew my girls and put them back in to private school.

I'm in FL too and the class max is 18. I did receive an email response from the teacher and she said that she didn't know about the incident.

It seems that she had stepped away from the playground for a moment to open the classroom door so that a child could go to the restroom. The playground is just outside the classroom. So, it seems that it happened at that exact moment. She didn't say that there was anyone else there with them though.:scared1: So, I'm still concerned about that.

She was going to talk to my DD and the girl today and would get back to me this afternoon. So, let's she what she says then.

So who was on the playground with these kids? no one??:scared1: What if something way more serious had happened? (we had a child almost choke to death when the strings of his jacket got caught on the top of the slide and he was hanging from his neck basically......if there were no teacher to see, that could have wasted precious time regarding his safety).

That sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.

My kids have been playing in our yard unsupervised since they were 3. We have a huge swingset. I would hope that another child might alert an adult inside if there was a choking incident. Our kindergarten teachers don't have aides. I don't think children need eyes on them every second of the day.

Good Lord, do you not see the difference??? These are not your children. Whatever you choose to do wth your offspring is your own business. However, if you are a teacher, they are someone else's children and thats a mighty big responsibility.

If it were YOUR child choking, would you like to rely on another child of kindergarten age to go get a teacher? Um, not me. And I wouldnt want to send my kid to a school where a kindergarten child was allowed to be out on the playground without adult supervision, especially if my child had been punched by another child.

Who do you think will be held legally responsible if something happens to a child on the playground, a serious incident, and the teacher was inside not supervising the children?? I'll give you one guess. And it would not be the child who you hoped would run and alert the teacher.

TRUST ME ON THIS. I am a teacher and I have seen this happen. As a parent you can do whatever you want with your kids, within boundaries of the Child Welfare laws. If you are a teacher you have a duty to provide adequate supervision to your students. And at no time can you ever make me believe that leaving a playground full of 5 year olds unsupervised is adequate.

I have learned that playgrounds are not well supervised and even if there is a person or two out there, incident's happen and somehow the adults never seem to see it.

My son is in 4th grade this year and he was bullied (by the same boy) for the past 3 years. It was reported over and over to the teacher (by me) and nothing ever happened - I taught my children not to tattle from an early age and it really got my son picked on because the kid learned right away that he could do what he wanted and nothing would happen. He got tied to basketball poles (with jumpropes 2x), he was shoved and kicked in the hallways, he was knocked down and kicked on the playground and bus and shoved into lockers. I reported every incident to the teachers and "no one saw anything". Finally, my son decided to fight back - and guess what - they saw that. He actually pushed the boy and he twisted his foot - the boys dad approached us at Wal-Mart the next day and threatened my child. The very next week his son had 2 boys hold him while he beat him on the playground. Finally, someone saw it happen and the bully got a Saturday and a threat that he would be suspended. According to my son, now he's moved on to someone else. My son got a detention because he called the kid an idiot.

Now both of my kids are told to tell the teacher if a kid so much as looks like they're going to hurt them - I would rather they be a tattletale than a victum of a bully.

.

What would've prevented the child from getting hit? Kids hit kids all of the time when adults are present. Ds7 ended up hysterical, screaming that he was choked, and the nurse called me, and told me the other child would be punished, even though none of the adults on the playground saw what happened. What did happen was my ds dove to get a ball, and another boy accidently stepped on his neck, choking him. Three aides were there.

I happen to be a parent who doesn't freak out over kids getting hurt. Now, maybe the teacher should've gotten a buddy for the child who needed to use the bathroom. For all we know, she was inside for a few seconds.

If you read the OP's first post, she said this little girl had already pushed her DD and was sassy to the teacher. This is the kind of kid that should be watched if she enters kindergarten early in the year and already shows agression.

In *MY* school (which is a private Christian preschool) I would have notified the girl that I was watching her since I knew she already pushed "Susie" and it shouldnt happen again. Then I would stay real close to her at recess so she would know I was onto her.

All I know is that if I walked inside and left kids on the playground alone, I would be fired, whether it was a few seconds or a few minutes (I tend to think it would be longer than a few seconds if she took a kid to the bathroom).

I am not going to argue this with you, mjkacmom, because I am a teacher and I know what the heck I am talking about.

Sounds like the teacher is going to deal with it and that she dis get back to you in a reasonable amount of time give it is a weekend and holiday.

I think what some others have posted about her not noticing if it was not bleeding, she didn't say anything, and it may not have swelled yet is reasonable.

In MI my DD has 35 in her class and no aid. A teacher can not see everything that is happending all the time. I am a high school PE teacher and I have 40 in my classes (no other adults in the room). I do my 100% best to see everything that is happening but do I miss stuff - YES. With 40 kids all moving around in a very large space it is impossible to see everything.

I would let this one go if she get back to you with a reasonable reply and see how the year goes. It is really early in the year still.

Have a great year.
