?? on member/member point transfer

We've been members for 10 years and only now, for the first time, do we have a need to "rent" points from another member for a trip in *, and I have no idea how it works.

I did look around on the R/T boards, and I understand the specific way to post the request, but what are the specifics of the actual transaction?

If I'm looking for a member to transfer points to my membership, how does the actual transaction work? What are the assurances for the person paying for the points to be transferred (me) and how does the payment work? Is it usually pay in full before the transfer, pay 1/2 upfront, and the remainder after the transfer is made?

Once the transfer is made do the points become mine and I'm the only one who can have control over them? Are they bankable if they are current UY points?

Any info anyone can give me is greatly appreciated.

I do half up front and half after transfer, Yes transfered points can be banked within their origonal time frame. MS confirms the transfer with both parties and once they are transfered they are all yours. (MS does not want to hear anything about a financial transaction)

I did this several months ago (wanted the 11 month window at AKL) and I paid the member 100% up front. We talked on the phone and I was very comfortable with the transaction. As soon as the transaction was completed I was able to make the reservation.

This is what I have done when having points transferred TO me as well as me transferring points to others. 100% payment up front first. It's a really really easy call to MS to get the points transferred and they are there instantly to use in the new account.

both times I've done a transfer out I've gotten payment 100% up front. Reason being that it's possible to get your money back from paypal if the person doesn't transfer the points but it's impossible to get the points back if the person doesn't pay for them.

then again I've never transferred points in so I'm not sure how I'd feel having to extend my trust and funds in advance. LOL
