DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I check in pretty much daily as well, but also don't really think I have much interesting to add a good bit of the time.

Still unemployed, so I can't rag on the overlords for now.
Not a lot of travel at the moment either, although we are working on something for our next anniversary.

I could fuss at The Mouse for closing down Muppets 3D, but I get why they're doing it.
In the same way I understand replacing Tom Sawyer Island, but those will still be missed.
(by us old timers, at least).

Well, that's not the case.
Still unemployed, so I can't rag on the overlords for now.
Still looking?

I doubt many of the young folks know, let alone have read (or seen the Disney movie) about Tom Sawyer.
Shame.

I was going to reply with a snarky comment but…

That’s just not true.
You're not going soft on me, are you?

There are always some overlords somewhere we can dump on.

What's the plan now? Still looking for work or are you able to retire?

I hope Muppets 3D is preserved. That was Jim Henson's last project. And you can feel his spirit in it, too.

I will miss Tom Sawyer's Island, too. It was decidedly low-tech, but Disney Parks have long known the value in just giving kids a place to explore. That sense of "what's around this corner?" I know my kids always had a great time running around there.

Still looking?

Still looking, though I may be limiting myself by ignoring offers coming in from the Philippines and the U.A.E. (the missus doesn't even want to move out of the area much less anyplace quite that extreme).

Another problem seems to be that most company's various AI screening systems are rejecting me out of hand. Then there's the supposedly illegal age discrimination thing that "is totally not happening, so why are you even bringing it up, and I dare you to find a lawyer in this state that would even consider such a case".

Ehem...

Retiring is tempting, but I'm not quite old enough to qualify for Medicare yet. Problem two is that applying before one's "assigned retirement age" comes with an 8% per year penalty on all future benefits, so... I'll figure something out (certainly after the unemployment runs out), but it's likely to look a lot like a McJob.

Shame.
Was going to point out the Fort Langhorne connection to the original source material being somewhat alien to most young'ens, but I see you got it covered.

Exactly. At least I my young'en did have the chance to explore the whole island. But if I'm honest, I was having as much fun roaming the caves and crawling all over the fort as he did. (not as if I was really bringing him there so that I could be a kid again ya' know, yeah, that's not at all what was actually going on... Really...)

I think they're going to do some kind of recording of the last performance and make it available to the public in some fashion, but well see. Supposedly, the Muppets will also be the theming applied to the RnRRC in its next iteration (which is at least a small win)

Technically, aren't you an overlord these days?
But then, I don't report directly to you, so I'll be letting you slide for now. ;)

Or have a clue that it was a book or movie.
I have to admit, I don't think my kids ever watched the movie. They've probably heard of the book.

Well... this thread seems to be dying off, and, well... I'd rather encourage a return to more enjoyable times when people would just come here and drop a line or have a conversation.
Oh, I get it...sucker me in to sticking around and THEN hit me with the snark. Not a bad plan.

Still looking, though I may be limiting myself by ignoring offers coming in from the Philippines and the U.A.E. (the missus doesn't even want to move out of the area much less anyplace quite that extreme).
I think that's smart. I'd hold out for one of those offers from Nigerian royalty who needs help transferring money to the US.

It sure feels like the hiring process is broken. My daughter went through something similar these past few months. She got hired full-time last August, then laid off 5 days before Christmas. Over the first part of this year, she told me she applied for 75+ jobs. I think she got an actual response on maybe 5-6 of them.

The good news is, she just got hired full time. It'll happen for you. It only takes one to call back.

Even if that ends up being the path to take, it's only temporary.

I do like the idea of the Muppets in RnRC. That could be really fun.

I'm the worst kind of overlord: middle management. I have to enforce the boss' edicts but have no actual power to make lasting changes or improve things for the workers.
