This thread is dedicated to those DVC and Disney nuts who dive a bit deeper into their Disney vacations than the average Joe. They are the people who notice things like the quality of silverware at the restaurant , the flushing power of the toilet, hidden Mickeys, and little nooks/crannies of the resort that others might miss. If you are one of those people, please contribute to the thread.

Things to post:
1) photos of places at the resort that others might miss
2) commentary on obscure elements of the resort
3) tips for making the most of a stay at this resort

A lot of non-OKW owners don't realize that there is a small sauna room built into the base of the lighthouse.

Some things non-owners may not know...

- Behind Building 55 is a path to walking (golf cart) path to dtd's west side. (note the path is not lit so I wouldnt recommend walking this at night)..

- All of the quiet pools have hot tubs

- Although not considered HH booking category; Buildings 62, 63, 64, 16 are all very close walking distance to the main resort area.

- Buildings 62, 63 & 64 are the only buildings with elevators.

- OKW distance to parks: MK 6 miles EP 1 miles ST 3 miles AK 6 miles

'pirate's treasure chest' , on Trumbo Canal - there some years back although idk if still exists, it's been awhile since we've passed where it was located.

Our kids thought it was very cool :cool2:

I think the "Pirate's Cove" area is long gone. People on rental boats were seeking free souvenirs. :( There used to be signage, and additional props, like skulls and swords.

At least we were wise enough to HIDE THE RUM :rotfl::rotfl2::

( my apologies, I just couldn't resist :lmao: )

Ooh, ooh, thanks for starting this thread. Last time we were at OKW, I noticed this-

I thought it was so funny that I took a picture of it and thought "Someday, I'll have reason to post it on the DIS boards." Thanks for giving me reason to post it.

Another interesting thing I just remembered-in Papa's Den (off the check-in area), is a place to read with lots of book shelves and books. If you look at the books, many of them are "themed" to go along with the OKW theming-older books about the sea, ocean fishing, etc. I know that Big Murgie's Den at HHI is similar in having "themed" books.

Oh My Goodness! I'll have to look for that next month. I don't remember ever seeing hat.
And yet you've been there lots more than me. Do you know where it is? Look up at the ceiling.

Where on earth is that? We've been going to OKW since '94 but I guess I've never looked up in the right spot!

Haven't the faintest idea where. Hmmm...blue wooden slat ceiling...now I'll be on the lookout for it. :confused3

I'm thinking maybe gurgling suitcase, or maybe the "addition" to Olivia's.

My first instinct was Olivias, for the fish hanging from the ceiling..... please oh please tell us where it's at?? And I did not know about the sauna in the Lighthouse, def will check that out in July.

It isn't in the main dining room of Olivia's, they have a different style ceilng fan, and an antique white ceiling. But it could be in the smaller seating area. It used to be the outdoor patio. And the area where the patio is today used to be an herb garder, where the chefs would gather their fresh herbs for the day.

I never noticed that either.....def will be looking for that in July....thanks for sharing that picture!! :)

I find it amazing that many don't know about the sauna! I do believe OKW is the only DVC that has a sauna too.

I like all the little details of the OKW theme. The shells in the sidewalk, the gingerbread railings that include hidden Mickeys, the fire pit, etc.

I'm so glad this thread was started! When I booked for my family gathering 3 months ago, I was given 2 options to be placed on a waitlist for BWV or book OKW. I was a bit nervous about my decision. After reading all these fun little tidbits and seeing other OKW threads, I think i'm more exicted for my stay at OKW than I am for my Kidani Village stay in Dec!! Keep the tidbits coming!

There used to be a "sea captain" seated at the last booth along the wall. (I have not seen him in a while; maybe they moved him!) We were eating on the porch and someone told my cousin someone had been staring at her when we walked in -- she walked back in to check it out and was so embarrassed! :rotfl2:
