I wanted to run a poll to see how many really got lucky and got an upgrade. I think this will be interesting, we may be all shocked at how often, or how little, this really happens. Maybe even post a reply if you got an upgrade, of what cabin you booked originally.

For our upcoming Magic cruise we booked a cat.9 quad guarantee.
Within a few days we had our cabin number, and guess what!!
We got a category 9 (outside with picture window). I am slightly disappointed, but consider myself lucky to be even going.
I will watch this thread to see if anyone else has been upgraded after receiving their cabin number.

We have sailed 9 times on DCL and on two of the cruises we were upgraded.

Once from an inside Cat 11 to a Cat 6 verandah and once from a Cat 9 to a Cat 5.

We were upgraded from a cat. 9(2554) to a cat. 5(7116) in August 2003.

We booked a March 2003 3-day cruise in January 2003. We booked a cat 11 (room 7629) our travel agent told us our room number when we booked. We got our cruise doc's and our cabin was indeed 7629. Two days before we left, my travel agent called me at work and let me know we were magically upgraded to a cat 9 (room 2060).

I just booked a 7 day land and sea vacation in a guaranteed cat 11 and we have our fingers crossed!

Last March - we booked a category 11 - got upgraded to a category 5!! Here's hoping for the same pixie dust next month!

Just curious. What would an upgrade be from a cat.4 family suite with a viranda?

This is great! I am happy w/ a cat. 11 but you wouldn't see me complaining if we get bumped up either. I am really pleasantly surprized at the poll numbers.

We were upgraded from cat 8 to cat 5 on our upcoming 1/24/04 cruise.

Our 4-day Wonder cruise in March we got an upgrade from cat. 11 to 8. But this time after I paid my reservation for May 8 in cat. 11 we got our room assignment. It's a cat. 11. I was wondering if anyone ever got an upgrade when their documents came, even though on line it showed a different room. Thanks

I have cruised w/DCL 3 times and never had an upgrade "given" to me....I have paid for one and am wondering ....if DCL has seen your record and it shows that you are possibly willing to pay....will they give to someone less willing....I am hoping for one for this 4/3...wish me luck!!

I posted above about going from an 11 to a 5. We were given the cat 11 room assignment at the port. I was traveling with my sister (who has M.S., wasn't feeling well and was in a wheelchair) and my almost 6 year old daughter. I had all our carryon stuff (for three people), a person in a wheelchair, a cooler for her medicine - and it was just little ole me as the only "responsible one"...LOL I looked a little desperate in the port - asked someone if I could get some help (try pushing a wheelchair with all your carryons - it's pretty difficult) - the Port person (tall blond woman) - came and offered to help us - she asked what room we were in - we showed her the card with the assignment - she said "let me go see if I can do a little better" and she came back with a new room number and said "you have a veranda now - you'll be able to enjoy the air". I didn't know how MANY categories we had been bumped till I consulted the Passporter! The irony of it all is that my sister got sick the first day in Nassau and I had to leave her at the hospital - after undergoing emergency surgery, she was finally flown home by air ambulance two weeks later - so she really didn't get to enjoy the veranda at all! We are definitely hoping to be blessed again, but will be content with whatever we end up with.

Im curious how far in advance those of you who got upgrades booked. I read the thread last week by a lady who said she always books at the last minute and always gets upgraded. Has anyone else noticed this pattern?

We went from a Category 12 to a Category 9 in September. We stayed on "GTY" status until about the end of July when we finally saw that we were assigned a Cabin on the DCL website.

As the Passporter says, you likely can't get the upgrade if you:

- ask for a certain cabin
- pay off your balance as soon as you can afford it

We are scheduled for a May Anniversary trip and are still on GTY status. We have paid off our vacation (thank you Christmas bonuses!) early (full balance was due by the 9th of March). As far as we are concerned, the longer we stay on GTY status, the better we feel our chance to be upgraded. But, either way....WE'RE GOING ON A CRUISE FOR FRICKIN' SAKES!!!!:smooth:

Been on four Disney cruises, cat.5 or 6 each time with no upgrades, it really seems like the chances of getting bumped up are much higher in the lower catagories, I pay for what I will be happy with.. I would love to save the $$$$$'s but don't want to risk not getting the veranda.

You basically don't get upgraded from cat 4 to anything for the most part. The upgrades are from much lower categories (9, 10, 11) to slightly higher (5, 6, on rare occasion to 4)).

For the poll, we were in cat 4 and did not get upgraded.

We booked a cat 11 for the 1/17/04 west carib. and were upgraded to a cat. 8. We always book a cat. 11 so we are excited to have a window in our cabin. We wont have wonder what the weather is like!

I booked the 1/31/04 Western Carib on 11/24, 2 adjoining cat 7 navigators. My paperwork arrived with the correct numbers. On 1/13 I received a second set of paperwork for one of the cabins now across the hall. I called my travel agent to see which set to use and why the room number was changed. He checked and found that it had been upgraded to a catg 4, but just one of the cabins. I'm thrilled with the upgrade but disappointed to be 2 floors away from the rest of my party.
