Oh, Just A Few GALLONS of Pixie Dust! - A July/August 2012 TR

I just went through like, the last 25 pages of your TR! Great read! I love your sense of humor and all the stories. Sorry I was absent while you were actually writing all those updates! I'm catching up since I'm off this week (and I'm avoiding school stuff ...).

Aww, thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it! Hahaha, don't even worry about it. I understand. I'm behind on a few TRs myself right now! Eek! Thanks for catching up though!!

I also found this TR over the weekend. My husband is past getting annoyed. He knows when I dive into the Dis I'm lost for awhile. Poor guy.

Marissa, I was telling my soon-to-be 16 yr old daughter (we will be in WDW for her sweet 16 in June) about your trip, family, your total obsessions, and even showed her the picture of your packed bags. I also read to her some of the parts where you got overwhelmed and emotional. She soooo wants to go to WDW with you. She loved how you get so excited and she said it would be a blast to do Disney World with you. I think my daughter and I got the same feeling. That you are young at heart and have a way of seeing the good in most everything (except fish). Thank you so much for sharing your experiences, family, and cute way of writing about your trip.

Stephanie

HAHA, the poor DIS husbands of the world! :lmao:

Your comment was just the sweetest! Thank you SO SO SO much! I want to go to Disney with YALL! When will you be there?! (I know you said June, but have you set specific dates?) How exciting to be able to celebrate her sweet 16 at Disney! That's absolutely perfect!

Also, your comment about 'seeing the good in everything (except fish)' cracked me UP! I seriously laughed for a couple minutes over that... because it's just so true! I just can't handle fish! :rotfl: But it was also so sweet! I really do try to see good in things, so I'm glad I was able to convey that and you picked up on it. Thank you! And thank you again for reading and for your comment! I can't even say how much I appreciate it! :goodvibes

Even though I'd have to disagree with the whole, empty Frontierland, Splash Mtn is the only ride to go on (Clearly Thunder holds the number 1 spot in my heart) if Thunder was closed I would totally go on Splash. :rotfl:

Splash is such a classic and it, by far, has the best theming. I do not like big drops...at all, but I deal with it for Splash. The storyline just sucks you in and you completely forget you're on a ride. I don't know what I'd do if B'rer Rabbit there anymore...

I am glad you were able to ride your favorite ride on your last day. Makes having to deal with the inevitable departure a little bit easier.

Well, Splash is my favorite, but we had just gotten off BTMRR. :thumbsup2

Really though, the whole thing is just perfect! What do you mean about Brer Rabbit though?

Thanks! Me too. :goodvibes

The One Where It's Just the Kids

August 3, 2012

After the glory that is Splash Mountain, we decided to double back to Big Thunder! The wait time was still pretty much nonexistent, so we wanted to take advantage of it! It’s always so much better being in Frontierland when it’s less crowded. That dead end next to Big Thunder and Splash gets insanely packed!

SDC13601.jpg

Somehow, Anna and I got separated from my parents and Jacob, so we waited for them at the exit.

While we waited, I admired the new (at the time) geyser! It goes extremely high up in the air! It’s awesome.

SDC13603.jpg

SDC13777.jpg

We even got to see them riding! My dad was being goofy and acted like he was scared to make Jacob laugh… he succeeded in making us laugh, too! Silly man.

SDC13605.jpg

SDC13778.jpg

A windmill.

SDC13602.jpg

At this point, my parents headed toward the exit to go back to BLT so they could get all of our stuff together, store it in Bell Services, and go shopping at Bay View Gifts. We’d all picked out one or two things we wanted as souvenirs the night before, and my mom also wanted to get a thank you gift for our neighbor/friend who was taking care of Sammy and getting our mail for us.

That meant it was just us kids! We all took a little shortcut on the Frontierland bridge (the same one I’d watched Wishes from the previous December!) and when we were walking off of the bridge, we saw FRONTIER DONALD!!!

We were just about to get in line when about 30,000 other families had the same idea. As much as I wanted to meet my favorite duck wearing yet another sophisticated outfit, we also had lots of other plans, so we just decided to head on to Fantasyland before the huge crowds came in.

Uhh… MISTAKE?!?! Yes. Now I see that it was.

I mean, when you have the opportunity to meet a coonskin hat-wearing duck, you TAKE IT. Man. My Disney brain must have been turned off at that moment because even though I KNEW that Donald would be part of the new meet and greet in Storybook Circus, I didn't even put two and two together and realize that meant that he wouldn't be in Frontierland anymore. DARN. MISSED OPPORTUNITY. Sigh! The WONDERFUL news in this situation is that we all now have the opportunity to meet Chip and Dale dressed as cowboys. COWBOYS. It's like some sort of strange dream of mine come true!

When we arrived in Fantasyland, we saw this glorious sight… BEHOLD:

it’s a small world!!!! I love this ride. It’s honestly one of my favorites and it’s an absolute can’t miss for me! I actually love the song, too. I’m sure that’s a pretty rare opinion but hey, that’s me. I’m rare and opinionated. ;)

Now, for some reason I decided it would be a good idea to try to take pictures of everything on the ride. Listen yall, I don’t have a fancy camera, but I’m very satisfied with the one I have, and I’m a good enough photographer to get decent pictures most of the time. HOWEVER… ride photos aren’t my specialty. Since I refuse to be THAT PERSON that won’t turn off their flash, I just roll with it. I mean hey, it’s not like I’m entering any small world photo contests anytime soon.

Unfortunately, it was too early for the Pinocchio’s Village Haus guests to be at the window waving to us as we passed by. DARG. (I’m pretty notorious for waving at the guests FROM the window, so I wanted to be one of the rare people who waved back. Alas, it was not meant to be.) I did get to wave to the ride operator CM though!!!! (I’m very easily amused.)

SDC13780.jpg

HERE WE GOOOO!!!

SDC13612.jpg

These toy soldiers always remind me of the ones in Mickey's Once Upon A Christmastime Parade now. They're my favorite part of that parade by a long shot!

SDC13615.jpg

I’m always reminded of The Aristocats when I see these geese… I can’t be the only one!

SDC13617.jpg

Something that I noticed on this ride that I’d never noticed before was that there are so many hearts! These were heartflowers.

SDC13618.jpg

High on a hill was a lonely goatherd… (and another heart)!

SDC13619.jpg

Baaa baaa blue sheep?

SDC13620.jpg

LOOK AT THE PRECIOUS PANDA! I love panda bears. And koala bears. And bears.

SDC13621.jpg

This hippo cracks me up, I tell ya.

SDC13623.jpg

This is possibly the best picture of the bunch. How sad. But it contains my two favorite exotic animals outside of the cat family! How grand.

SDC13625.jpg

Oh, are we back at the Polynesian now?

SDC13630.jpg

I just love that ride! It’s so happy. Who doesn’t love a colorful, classic, happy ride?

We could see the crowds beginning to pick up, so we wanted to hit the more popular attractions before everyone else had the same idea, so we headed across the ‘street’ to Peter Pan’s Flight!

I have a confession, though… it was my first ride on Peter Pan’s Flight.

SAY WHAAAAAAAA?

Yeah, I know. I don’t know. Nope. I don’t know.

Really though.

Somehow I just never managed to ride it before! Who the heck knows? The important thing is that THAT ALL CHANGED.

The other important thing is… ME. I am important because I was given THIS.

Scan130510002.jpg

(That’s my “OOOOO” face ala the little green aliens from the Toy Story Movies.)

Oh, you didn’t know? Only VIP’s are given the distinct honor of holding ‘THE RED CARD’ in line. It’s like a CM’s way of saying, "HEY, I CAN TELL THAT YOU HAVE A DEEP LOVE FOR DISNEY." Or… it may also be a CM’s way of saying, “I’m just doing my job and you seemed capable of holding something in your hand.”

I’m going with the former.

Jacob wanted to be a VIP as well, so I graciously let him hold my Awesome Award.

SDC13632.jpg

In all seriousness, do these things actually have purpose? Whenever I hand them off to another CM they never seem to do anything with them. Maybe there’s some hidden code involved. I guess us mere ‘guests’ will never know. The first time I was given one I thought something awesome was going to happen. (It didn’t.) I still get excited over them, though. Like I said, I’m easily amused.

YOU KNOW THE RULES.

SDC13634.jpg

Always follow the stick people’s examples. SO important.

Like I said, it was my first ride on Peter Pan’s Flight, so naturally I was EXTREMELY excited to finally experience such a classic dark ride.

I LOVED IT. It was so adorable!!! Peter Pan has always been a favorite movie of mine. PLUS, I mean, we were flying around in a pixie-dusted ship. Amazing! I just adored it.

SDC13636.jpg

We still had plenty of Fantasyland left to conquer, so we had to get moving!

Continued in Next Update

Aww, good old Thunder Mountain. I love that ride so much. That's so cool there is a geyser there now!

I think your IASW pictures turned out pretty good! I like the one of the hippo and also the heart flowers. I loved those when I was younger. I'm pretty sure we have an old home video where I'm telling Dad to take a picture of it.:rotfl:

OMG, that was your first time on Peter Pan?!?! Glad you enjoyed it because it definitely is a CLASSIC!

Lol! I also have wondered what the CM'a do with those red cards!! They dont wave it in front of anything, swipe it, or even look at the time when you hand it to them!! Glad I'm not the only one wondering!! Lol
Great update!!!!

Ah - Peter Pan. I love that ride. Just love it. It is a must do for us every trip. Or there may or may not be pouting .... by me

I do too! It's so much fun. The geyser is awesome! Obviously my pictures don't do much to show it off, but it went SO high, and it went off a lot! It wasn't like at the WL where it'll only go off at certain times (or so I've heard hahah).

Well thanks!!! Aww, how cute! I don't know why, but I noticed them a lot on this trip when I hadn't before! Weird!

I know, isn't that crazy? I don't even know. I even have a (very) specific memory from my first trip... we actually GOT FP for it, but then my sister had a stomach ache after we ate lunch, so we went back and swam at All Star Music... and when we went back to MK later that evening we just watched MSEP and the Nightastic fireworks. So yeah, my intentions were good! (I also have no clue why I felt the need to tell that story. Please forgive me.) But yeah, I loved it!

Great update!!!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one! :lmao: It's so true, they literally don't do anything with them! I guess there must be some kind of system... maybe the CMs will hand them off if the line reaches a certain point? Who really knows? I really want to know, though! Hahha.

Ah - Peter Pan. I love that ride. Just love it. It is a must do for us every trip. Or there may or may not be pouting .... by me

Just missed your comment! Glad I saw it!

It's a great ride! I really loved it. Hahah I totally get that. That's the way I am with Splash... and okay, a LOT of rides. :rotfl:

I’m always reminded of The Aristocats when I see these geese… I can’t be the only one!

Well, let me tell you this reminded me of the same ride in Disneyland. Only there are many many characters that are from our beloved Disney movies. Very cute, and my kiddos loved trying to be the first to spot them. Not so sure the other riders love the hearty competition complete with feverish pointing and calling out of the characters. If any Disneyland, IASW riders are reading and we offended you, I'm very sorry.:flower3:

My favorite, favorite memory of IASW is again in Disneyland. WDW hadn't even opened yet. :scared1: So, I guess we can all guess how old I am. My grandparents lived near there and when we visited we would sometimes go to the park. I was also terrified of fast rides when I was a wee one and my grandma was content to sit on a park bench. I swear I remember her wearing her house coat to the park, accessorized with white bobby socks and loafers with her black hand bag hung on one forearm and clutched tightly close. Well she took me on IASW and I loved it. No dips, no spinning, just a nice leisure boat ride. We road it over and over and over. I can't even imagine how many times. Ahhhhh the memories.

For DD's sweet 16, we will be in WDW June 9-14. This is our second sweet 16 celebration in Disney. We went Nov '11 for our oldest. Guess I've started a trend, because we have 2 other girls coming up in the ranks.

For this trip, I totally lucked out. I had been looking at rooms and was all over the place from value to moderate to deluxe trying to decide. After several days of comparing, I logged on to the official Disney website and there was a brand new PIN code that came out THAT VERY DAY. I couldn't believe my eyes. This never happens for me. I've been wanting to try Boardwalk Inn and they had a room available with the discount. Believe it or not, the CM on the phone was the same one that booked our trip 2 yrs ago. I bet he was sitting there waiting for me this whole time to call back.

I'll be waiting for you next update. popcorn::

We're big fans of BTMRR, but it was being refurbed last time we were there. Can't wait to ride it again! The geyser looks like a cool touch!

I always thought that the red cards were a way to measure line time! But maybe they're just a way to make the sporadic guest feel super-important! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Hahaha I always make it a point to wave back at the people waving at Pinocchio's! :wave2:

I wonder if they'll ever expand in the area of Splash and BTMRR. I'm sure there's space behind it or something, right? I can't stand the traffic there especially because Frontierland is the hottest part of MK, in my opinion. Howard said it's the material they use for the ground there that just automatically absorbs the heat and reflects the sunlight.

I'm right along with you in loving IASW! I guess you either hate it or you love it, but I am in the latter group. When I ride it, it inspires me to to craft because of all the shapes and colors. Those heart flowers are one of the things that I love because of the glitter around the edges. There's always something new to notice. This past trip, I really paid attention to the wall decor and the colors there especially in the jungle scene (I had never noticed the patterns there before; they reminded me of paper border punches). I can't wait to bring my future kiddies on this ride!

When you give the red card to the CM at the front of the line, they are supposed to scan it so that the wait time is recorded. That's what I've seen the few times we've gotten it.

Can't believe you haven't been on Peter Pan before! Doesn't your life a bit more complete now???

How cute that Jacob got to be the VIP of the Peter Pan ride. He looks so thrilled. :thumbsup2

Your pictures of BTMMR are so awesome. It looks like such a gorgeous day! What a perfect blue sky.

Hi Marissa......I happened to stumble upon your trip report and I gotta tell you, it was one of the best I've ever read. You made me feel like I was there with you! You and your family are adorable. I just LOVE your name (my daughter's name is Marissa too and spelled the same way!) Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed reading your TR. I too get excited about everything Disney and I'm passing that excitement down to my kids :lmao: We will be in Disney 6 months from today and I can't wait to see all the sites, sounds and smells that you so adequately described (and photographed). Thanks for the entertainment!!!!!!

I love Big Thunder!! That geyser is awesome, but apparently I just totally missed it this trip?! I don't even know!

THAT makes so much sense about Donald and why I kept seeing Chip 'n Dale over in Frontierland. So sad that Donald isn't there anymore, wompwomp. He was the cutest.

Is it weird that when you said "it's a small world!" I said it in Stacey's voice? Obviously not.

I like the song, too! I don't know why there are some haters, but that song is darn catchy and delightful

Haha that's so funny you'd never been on Peter Pan! Such a cal-aaa-sic. And even better, you got one of the fancy special red cards!

There is actually a special thing with those cards! They have a little RFID reader at both the beginning and end of the lines. I assume when they tap it at the beginning, then tap at the end, it can tell exactly how long you just waited and then the system will update the numbers outside! At least, that's my observation for when we've been given the VIP card.

I think my favorite part about Peter Pan is hearing all of the little kids on the ride oohing and aahing at it. It's just so adorable!

Yeah, I've heard about that and seen a few pictures! I LOVE how that do that at Disneyland... it's adorable!

HAHAHA, I'm sure that nobody was offended by that. They probably thought it was cute! I would! I love to see kids getting excited at Disney. I think it's too precious.

That was such an adorable story! I can totally see why you loved it so much and rode it so many times! What awesome memories!!! Thanks for sharing!

Omg, what an awesome tradition! I think that's perfect! I can think of no better way to spend ANY birthday!

Wow, that IS really lucky! That's amazing! :woohoo: I really want to stay at the Boardwalk Inn, too! In fact, I'm hoping to maybe even stay there sometime this year! Let me know how you like it there!

Thanks for reading! You leave such great comments! My responses pale in comparison.

We're big fans of BTMRR, but it was being refurbed last time we were there. Can't wait to ride it again! The geyser looks like a cool touch!

What a bummer! That will make it even more awesome this go'round! The geyser was really cool.

This is my favorite scene in Small World. :goodvibes

Your parents are getting all of your stuff together? That means you are leaving?

I love that one too! I love so much in that ride... I don't know if I could even pick a favorite!

Yeah. :( We had a 9:00 PM flight that night... so still more Disney fun to come! :thumbsup2

I always thought that the red cards were a way to measure line time! But maybe they're just a way to make the sporadic guest feel super-important! :thumbsup2:rotfl:

Hahaha I always make it a point to wave back at the people waving at Pinocchio's! :wave2:

I think they are! There must be some kind of hidden meaning that the CMs know because every time I hand one to a CM they barely even do anything with it! Although, now that I think about it... I've never actually waited for them to do anything with it. Hmm...

YAY! Good for you! It's much appreciated. :lmao:

YAY! Aww how cute! I like that you're a major crafter. I've always been interesting in that kind of thing but never really had a chance to do anything like that!

Yeah, I figured that's what it was, it's just that I've never actually seen them do anything with them!

YES! My life is MUCH more complete now! :rotfl:

How cute that Jacob got to be the VIP of the Peter Pan ride. He looks so thrilled. :thumbsup2

Your pictures of BTMMR are so awesome. It looks like such a gorgeous day! What a perfect blue sky.

Hahha yeah, he really wanted his picture taken with it after I had mine! He enjoyed it.

Thank you! It was... for the most part! It didn't last the whole day though, booo.

Wow, what a compliment! One of the best? I mean... wow! Thank you so much!

Aww thank you! AHHH, yay! Your daughter and I can be name twins! How awesome! And good for you for giving them the Disney gene! My kids will be raised on Disney too!!

Ahhh, thank you so much again for your awesome compliment! I really, really appreciate you reading and commenting! I hope you enjoy the rest, too!

I think my favorite part about Peter Pan is hearing all of the little kids on the ride oohing and aahing at it. It's just so adorable!

Oh really? You didn't see it? Hmm... maybe it's not turned on in January! Who knows? I feel like you definitely would have seen it!

Yeah! I mean, I'm a little bummed that I never got to meet him as a frontier man, but at least I have the opportunity to now meet him as a circus... guy? Hahah I don't know yet! But at least they didn't take the opportunity to meet him away completely, and I mean, Chip and Dale as cowboys is just the best thing ever!

Um, NO... not weird at all. I honestly do that every single time! Hahaha yeah, I don't understand the hate for the song! I LOVE IT! And I got it in your head so YAY! Hahaha.

It's crazy! I don't even know. I'm so glad I've done it now!

OHHH okay! Ya see, I've never actually seen the CMs do anything with the cards after I hand them over... but then I also just realized that I've never actually watched! DUHHHHH MARISSA. Next time I will watch!

Oh that's just adorable. I'll have to listen for that next time!!! So cute!

Hey, yall! Happy Friday!

SO... I need some assistance from all you lovely DISers.

If any of you have stayed in the Moderate resorts, I would love you to tell me which Mod is your favorite, which is your least favorite, and all that kind of thing. I want your completely honest opinions and reasons why you liked/disliked the one you stayed at.

I would REALLLLLY appreciate your help!

(If you are like me and have never stayed at a Moderate resort, you are excused.)

I can't give any specifics on why I'm asking yet, but I would truly appreciate your help on this! Thank you so much and have a wonderful weekend!!!

:goodvibes

P.S. Don't miss my update from last night if you haven't seen it yet! Thanks!!!

We stayed at Port Orleans Riverside on our last trip for a few nights, and I fell completely in love with it.

I loved how the grounds were so beautifully themed, that there was so much to do right at the resort (i.e numerous swimming pools, walking trails, carriage rides, movies on the lawn), the boat ride to downtown disney was awesome, and also the food court is truly in my opinion one of the best on Disney property.

I can honestly say that I truly love it there :)

I'm completely useless when it comes to the moderates. My only experiences with them have been driving around inside Coronado Springs and our quick visit to POFQ last year. They both look cool though. haha

First, LOVE the Small World photos! I really (really, really) like that ride, even though I get eye rolls from my family when I say so! So glad you finally got to ride Peter Pan...it's a classic!

Now, you know about my great love for POR...it's my favorite moderate because it's beautiful and there's a LOT of stuff to do there but also because in a former life I'm pretty sure I was Scarlet O'Hara, so it feels like coming home to me. :rotfl: It was recently renovated, which is nice, and the royal guest rooms are awesome! Having said that, the resort is HUGE, and the food court is ka-ray-zee busy most of the time. POFQ is also very beautiful, is smaller and quieter...and there are beignets! The boat ride to DTD from either resort is wonderful!

I've also stayed at CBR, and it was OK...the pool area is great and the grounds are gorgeous, but the rooms need some serious sprucing up.
