Warning VENT coming....

no no.jpg
Ugh...I know that training has not officially started for W&D but this is how I am feeling. I have taken the last few weeks off trying to heal some PF and tendinitis problems in my foot. This week I tried start again trying to walk long distances 4x a week and run 3x per week...day 2 and I am in total pain once again. Back to icing and stretching, and grrrrrrrr rest. I have been starting and stopping training now since March for various reasons...and feeling really frustrated and defeated. I have a 25K coming up in less than 30 days and there is no way I am even close to being able to even walk it and the point I am at. I have my hopes set on Dopey in 2018 and really need to get serious training going...because I need all the time I can get to be able to accomplish my goal. Vent over...

This is my first Disney race. Although it's Remy/Food and Wine themed, do a lot of people wear typical Disney character costumes as well? Lol I'm feeling uninspired in the Food department, but am being drawn to a few regular Disney character costumes. Don't wanna feel like a fish out of water:)

You'll see all sorts of costumes and mashups during the race. Mine is more country oriented than anything for the half. And my 10K is Ariel themed.

I'm so sorry Tammie! How frustrating! Have you been to the doctor at all? I know you can do it, but praying for quick healing for you so you can get back to training!

I can't remember reading it anywhere. I want to find a cute tshirt for the half. I may or may not make a skirt, I've found capris with pockets which is part of why I wanted a skirt, so if I find a shirt I like it'll be easier. I want something moisture wicking and I do want a tshirt not a tank. I want something I can wear at the gym after, which is why the one place I've found won't work. It's costume's and more than I want to spend since I would only wear it once.

Any suggestions? I've only looked on etsy so far and don't want a run disney shirt since I would rather buy something with the half for after.

Thanks!

I make my own shirts - I basically design the heat transfers and that way I can affix them to the shirts/tanks I know I like running in for a fraction of the cost of what Etsy sellers are charging. PM me and I can help you with some options if you're interested!

For W&D last year, I made a "jersey"-style shirt that said World Showcase Drinking Team on the front with the World Showcase skyline, and the back had my name and 15 for the year. I wore capris, eye black, and a football/QB wristband with a map of F&W on the inside flap. I also carried a yellow "penalty" flag that I through at different points during the race (or, actually, more during the ridiculous wait before the race started).

Thanks for the offer, I'll keep it in mind. I could do it myself I just don't want to if I don't have to :) I may go that route or see if I can send a shirt to the etsy person I found with the cute shirt but in cotton. It's also partly because I have no ideas of what do costume wise. When there were 3 of us going we had a plan, now that its just two of us we haven't come up with anything and already decided not to use the first idea since we aren't all going. I'm going to Joann's in a couple of weeks for inspiration for if I want to sew a skirt so that may help too.

I loved your shirt last year!

Sort of...a friend is a Sports Med DR/PT...ice, rest and stretches. LOL...love that advice. Appreciate the prayers. I did get out this week and managed a full week of training 3 walk days/3 runs. Somewhat pain free and decent pace but no where I want to be right now with a 25K coming up in 3 weeks.

It's your achilles right? I have a friend that's a PT as well as she gave me an exercise and a stretch to do. The exercise is to strengthen the calf and you can feel it when you are done so I plan to continue doing it.

You go up on your tip toes with both feet and then lift one foot and slowly lower you other foot down. Back up on both tip toes and lift the other foot and slowly lower your foot down. I do 20 of those on each leg because even though it's just my left that I tweaked I want to make sure I don't do it to the right.

She probably gave me the same stretch, but it's a good one to share with those that may not do it. Sit on the ground with feet out straight. I use a belt, but anything like that, and put it behind your big toe and pull towards you. It stretches deeper than having the belt behind the ball of your foot and pulling. I do that 3 times per leg.

I'm going to try slow running Monday since the pain is 99% gone. I had a friend that ended up in a boot for 8 weeks last summer because of her achilles so I'm a bit paranoid about it getting worse or not getting better. So as much as I'd like to be out running and getting ready for my 5k on the 9th, I know I can walk it if I have to and that being healthy for the half is more important. Not sure what I would do with your long race coming up, that would scare me.

I am also dealing with PF. I ignored it from January to April until I could ignore it no more. Stopped running and cross trained for the last 7 weeks. have you tried a chiropractor? I've been going to one and it's helped some. Sleeping in a boot has helped immensely too.

Sorry to hear that. I had PF a couple of years ago, and the boot when sleeping was a tremendous help to me. I used KT tape on it when running for a while, plus rolling that foot on a lacrosse ball nightly. Our local running store, helped to evaluate my shoes, and recommended insoles that have brought them back to life for me.

Totally bummed. I registered for a 10K on the 4th of July to establish proof of time (don't have any recent 10Ks on the books to use) and I knew that it was a "bare bones race", meaning no swag/shirts/medals etc. I double checked last week to make sure that the results were posted online quickly, and noticed that last year's results were not posted (unlike years past). I emailed them to make sure that they would be put online after the race, and the woman responded that they have decided not to use chips in the races last year or this year to establish times.:( As this is the last local 10K before August 2nd, it looks like I will be in the last corral for both the 10K and the Half Marathon. Does anyone have experience starting in the last corral? Did you feel it was a huge deal compared to starting in earlier corrals?

Hi All getting so excited for the run, training is going a bit slow but it's going

As it's starting very slowly to heat up in the UK (in between the rain followed by lots more rain) I want to try to run a bit in temps that will be similar to those on the day, so I know what to expect.

Now I know when we start it will probably be a bit nippy, but I'm just thinking about nearer the end when the sun is up, and it will be for me as I'm in the last corral and my current times I'm looking to do the race in about 2.30, so how hot do we think it will get. :sunny:

I always check the Accuweather website for information. Historical average for that time of year is 80° F. Lows should br around 60°. That said, temps can vary quite a bit.

TRAINING PLANS ARE UP!!!!!!!

ETA: So excited I did not see I was already beaten to the punch, lol!

Maybe I missed this earlier in the thread (but there are 102 pages already!), but is anyone else who is running the 10K planning on going right back to Epcot for the day? For the short time we are there, that day works best for me. I just don't want to be too tired/sore to enjoy the park. Plus, it's a Saturday during F&W so I'm sure it will be extra crowded.

Depending on the time and the level of sweatiness/tiredness when we finish I am leaning on throwing myself into the rope drop fray to take medal pictures at the Summerhause

We always head back to the hotel, quick shower, and right back out. This is true for us after a 5K, 10K or half.

My one experience going straight to a park after running was The Tower of Terror 10-miler a few years back. The race ended in DHS and we could stay several hours to ride select rides, etc. It was SO hot and SO humid for the race! We brought some wipes and stuff to clean up, sandals to change into, etc. While we stayed for a bit, I won't choose to do that again! I like to get cleaned up first. :)

Thanks! This makes me feel better about our plan. I'm sure I'll want to clean up a bit and definitely change shoes, but hoping to get to Epcot soon after 9, don't want to waste half the day since I think we are only doing one park this trip.

DW and I did MK after the Dark Side half. There are showers at the Comtemporary pool (and the wait for that bus was a fraction of that for Pop Century), so we packed a change of clothes in our gear back (our Mickey and Minnie bounding outfits), got the shower, walked to MK, had an awesome day, and closed the park. We got a nap in a couple turns of Hall of Presidents, but it was EXHAUSTING! All told it was a 22 hour day, we logged over 50,000 steps and totaled over a marathon distance for the day. Wouldn't trade it for anything, but never doing it again!
