For those that are not aware, this is an on-going feud between Disney and the Tax Assessors about the proper methodology for valuing their properties. This has been going on for many years. As required by law, Disney has paid the disputed tax bill in full and these claims are to get a rebate.

I can't wrap my head around this one. Has to be a better way to invest $1B. Seemingly, just as the bubble is gonna burst. Lol. Time will tell, I guess.

Okay, well that's not much! Sounds like the non-ad subscribers might be more profitable. Glad to know I'm profitable 😄
Yeah, $2/mo plus the cost to develop the ad system and tools is not making the ad tier more profitable, that is for sure. But when the ad tier is making up the large majority of your user-base you have to invest in that tech.

Other than maybe getting a short term return, it’s a lot to dole out without knowing what Open AI is paying for the licensing rights to that many characters

Interestingly hours before this they sent a cease and desist to Google involving *their* use of Disney in AI.

I agree, not a fan of this on a few levels, but I'd guess there's a lot of FOMO pressure from the board.

Disney Accuses Google of Using AI to Engage in Copyright Infringement on ‘Massive Scale’

As Disney has gone into business with OpenAI, the Mouse House is accusing Google of copyright infringement on a “massive scale” using AI models and services to “commercially exploit and distribute” infringing images and videos.

On Wednesday evening, attorneys for Disney sent a cease-and-desist letter to Google, demanding that Google stop the alleged infringement in its AI systems.
