Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Well, I'm officially "official"...I just registed for the 1/2. I'll be honest-it was hard for me to spend that much money on a race, but I think it will be worth it. Now I've just to get my rear in gear with this training. If anyone has any extra encouragement to go around, I could definitely use some!!

Can't wait til the next one!!! HAHAHAHAHAHA!!

I can hardly run the 60 seconds!!! (Although it was a tad easier this time than the 1st time.) And, we think we're gonna run a 5K??

YES WE ARE!!!!!!

iluvtig :thumbsup2

You're going to be great! I didn't start running until January of last year and I ran in the Royal Family 5k in March. You can do it!

Also, remember, to those starting -- there is NO rule that says you HAVE to RUN.. ;) There is NOTHING wrong with walking or doing a combo alternating walk/run!! Don't stress yourself out over having to feel that you have to run this!
I ran the Minnie 5k in 2008 - but for this last Princess 1/2 in last March, i did a walk/run combo - i walked 3 min. and ran 2.. alternating.

I can illustrate best like this : My sister broke ahead of me and my mom, she pushed herself, and wanted to see how far she could run - well, yes, she finished about 45 min. before me and my mom (i believe she finished about 2:30 - Me and my mom finished about 3:15.
Well, all she did was say how miserable she was - she didnt' take the time to "stop and smell the disney roses!" She was so intent on running. Me and my mom would chat - and take pics, and had a GREAT time -- and, we got the same medal. ;)

So, remember, listen to your body, and just relax and have fun!!!!!

It is soooooooooooooooo worth it in the end when they put that medal on your neck --- you truly feel like a princess -- and it doesn't matter how you got across that finish line. Just that you DID. :)

Thank you Caitsmama for posting this information. Ever since my daughter and I signed up for this years's princess half, I have been so worried that I might not finish or that I would hold my daughter back. We plan on walking the race together this year (only did the family 5k last year, but had a blast). I only hope we have the same wonderful experience that you and your Mom had last year for the princess half. Thanks.

i'm going to preface this by saying there is absolutely nothing wrong with walk/running or walking (my mother just walked her 3rd marathon and i couldn't be prouder of her) BUT to be on the opposite side let me tell my story...i've done a few 13.1 where i've literally put in no real training other than just my daily 30-60 minutes of activity of gym activity, and just woke up and walked the 13.1 miles with my mom kinda just because. i never really believed i could run, as i'm flat-footed, terrible over-pronator, and never trusted myself. but this last spring i slowly and surely started to prove myself wrong as i did learn to run..which led to myself signing up to for a fall half marathon. i really truly put in the training miles to prepare myself for the race. my goal was to run the whole race. was i suffering? more than i've ever had in my life .but when i crossed that finish line knowing i really gave it my 100 percent effort, running hard the whole 13.1....it meant more to me than any other medal i have. again absolutely nothing wrong with walk/running or walking, because we all do the same course and believe me, we all work hard to cross that finish line no matter how we do it. all i am saying is don't sell yourself short, because you may surprise yourself like i did.

I like what Stacy and fashionista311 have to say about the race..you can walk or run or do both. And putting all you have in to it and fulfilling a goal make it special. The time I spend running and walking and cross training are important to my physical, mental and spiritual health and when I can participate in an event and help others, it is icing on the cake. It is an opportunity to give to others while helping yourself. Your "race" is your "race" and no one can take that from you.

Grethen You made me laugh. My two daughters (age 18 &20) ran/walked with me last year and I was the one cheering them on to keep up with me. My younger one was wiped as we crossed the finish line and fell into the waiting wheelchair. Hope you will be surprised with how well you do.

Okay girls..let's get ready to complete our half marathon!:lovestruc

I'm so excited this morning! Mom called last night and she is definalty doing the race. She has been having trouble with breathing and has been getting discouraged. Her doctor gave her an inhaler this week and she is finally getting excited about the race agian! She went from a 22min/mile to 17min/mile in one day; plus she was able to call me and tell me about it (usually she is too tired to talk and goes to bed)

Is anyone else doing a Thanksgiving race? I'm signed up for a 5mile run, that promises a pumkin pie at the end (can you say food motivated? lol)

You ladies are the best.
Thanks Joan for the input. I'm hoping that my training plan gets me to the point where you were last year.
I have been working diligently to get in shape and be prepared for the half.
As you say, I feel so much better physically and spiritually right now than I have in a long time.
I am concentrating on "me" and making all the efforts to be prepared while having fun to boot.
:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2: to everyone for setting such great goals and working to reach them.

How awesome that your Mom will be able to join you. I know that motivates you even more!!:thumbsup2

My DH and I are doing a 5K on Thanksgiving morning. A local church is putting it on, and instead of paying an entry fee, you have to donate 15 cans of food...pretty cool. It all goes to the church's food bank.

Stacy, this is VERY encouraging for me. My running has progressed a little since I started the C25K training, but I've been so worried that I won't be able to finish. There are times that the 13 miles cross my mind, and I think, "I can do that", and then there are times when I tell myself "What in the world are you thinking-you can't do 13 miles." So thanks for the encouragement!!

I have to say EVERY time the fireworks blast and the race begins-I think to myself..."What was I thinking? I have 13 miles to run this morning!" But when I'm done, I'm glad I ran and finished the best the I could.

We definitely will be able to do a walk/run by then! I really hadn't considered that! That's awesome!

DS9 is working out with me, and planning on running the 5K. He is just starting to "outgrow" his asthma, and we have to take it slow, but we're doing it! So, I kinda know how you feel!

We're all gonna have a blast!!!

She texted me yesterday to let me know that she had registered, she is so excited! Now we just have to get a hotel room and tickets.

Good for you son! I was diagnosed as an adult, I can't imagine how frustrating it must be to have asthma as a kid.

I'll be running this race again this year! My friend, Where'sPiglet, will be run/walking with me! This will be my 4th half marathon, and I've already run a full marathon. I cannot wait! I am also running the Wine and Dine half marathon!!

:) We can do it!

Also I just want to say how encouraging reading posts from all of you really has been. I'm so upset about my training being behind/altered (though I have started seeing a sports physical therapist! I hope she can work her magic on me!), but I still refuse to give up. I'm way too determined to run the half. I keep feeling like I'm not trained enough right now, but reading about everyone's past experience and knowing I can always run/walk makes me feel much better about knowing I can finish.

Tomorrow starts my official start to my Princess 1/2 training!! I have found a 14 week program . I am torn between two plans the other is 12 weeks, so I figure I will start with the 14 and do that for 2 weeks and then move into the 12 week one, since it is more demanding :)

When does everyones official training start and/or plan start date?

What are you using??

I'm thankful that I am training for the half in January. I've been training since August! I need to talk to my coaches about how to transition into a plan for the Princess after the Donald!

Good luck to everyone who is starting this week!

BlakeNJ, I am in NJ too --- I am OK being out in the cold it is the wind that is the death of me :rotfl:..........I would love to do my runs in the am, but it is still too dark and my dh leaves at 6:30am - so afternoon runs work best for me.

NJ'ers are strong, we can do this!!
