Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Megan

I would be interested in what your coaches have to say because I am thinking of doing the same thing. DD and I are registered for the January half and thinking about doing the princess again. I was wondering about doing the transitioning training.

Meg

First day of training-didn't happen. Returned Saturday from family Thanksgiving, Saturday night sick-sore throat, earache, fever, body ache, headache
I did get on the TM today for a slow 3 miles. I mean sloooooooow 50 minutes.
I feel okay with it as I did 7 miles last Monday in 62 minutes.

I have a question about the Royal Family 5K:

I thought I read somewhere that it was timed, but the times weren't recorded. Is that right? I didn't see results from last years 5K online and my fiance was curious. He's a runner, but he was thinking of doing the 5K instead of the half. But he was concerned that it wouldn't be a timed race. I'm searching around for that info but if anyone knows from last year that would help, thanks!

Hi, i believe it is timed -as in you have to complete it in 15 min mile (or about 45 min.), but you don't have a chip to record your personal chip time...
So, i guess the answer is it's timed, but not timed.. LOL

I haven't done a Disney run 5k before - so mabye someone else can clarify!

BTW- I am also training starting this week for the MFM walk/run plan..
Not sure if i will use that on race day or not - figured i would use it for now -- but someone once said that they had great success with doing a 1/1 ratio -- We are definately doing a walk/run plan.. just not sure on the ratio yet.

I actually just found the answer:

Sean. New Ringgold.PA: How come the past 5k fun run times were not posted?

Kaia: Sean, We use "Fun Run" as code for untimed race....hence, no results to post. Currently, the only timed 5ks in our portfolio are the ESPN 5k and the 5k in the Expedition Everest Challenge.

Good morning. Could you please add me for the 5k and the 1/2. It was so much fun last year and I can't wait to see my Princesses again!

BlakeNJ, I am in NJ too --- I am OK being out in the cold it is the wind that is the death of me :rotfl:..........I would love to do my runs in the am, but it is still too dark and my dh leaves at 6:30am - so afternoon runs work best for me.

NJ'ers are strong, we can do this!!

So now I've resorted to leaving work early, running straight out of my office, then back to the office & in the car before dark. Once I get home, forget it. Can only manage the TM after 8:30. AND, my favorite yet, I'm taking a 1/2 vacation day once / week every week in Jan. & Feb. My boss sort of hemmed & hawed about it 'till I told him HIS boss is doing the same thing from now till Jan. to train for the Disney Marathon--so then what could he say! lol!

Hi DISers! :wave2: First, let me say, whew! Ya'll have a lot to say! It's taken me 3 days to get through this whole thread (while trying not to let my job interfere!). I've found a lot of great information and tips.

I was set to do the half in January, but I didn't get ready in time (totally my fault, just being lazy), so I've decided to try for the Princess. I was so bummed when I couldn't get the money together for its first year, so I'm excited to go next year.

I plan on mainly walking, with maybe an enthusiastic jog here or there. I am way out of shape and could stand to lose a bunch of weight, but I found a training plan for walkers that looks very doable.

I will be solo, and am staying at AKV. I'm trying to get a friend to join me, but if I can't, I may start begging here.

I can't wait to get to know everyone and make some friends as we get ready for the race (my first race ever!). :woohoo:

Also, swim-mom, I would love to share a taxi with you on the morning of. I am flying in and will not have a car and am not staying at a host resort.

I guess I'll be joining you fine folks. I just faxed in my application to run/walk the Princess Half with Team in Training!

Has Disney sent us passwords for the discounted tickets yet? I don't remember getting one, but I'm wondering if I just skipped over it.... If they did what kind of email did it come in, a newletter?

Thanks!

I believe it is in the original e-mail from them confirming that you registered.

I remember that it was printed on the confirmation that I got after I registered on Active. My papers are at work, so I won't have access to them until tomorrow, but if you still need it I'd be happy to IM it to you. Just let me know.

Thanks! I can't find the email, but I usually print stuff like that out so I should have it. If not my mom should have one.

Okay, it's official - I'm all signed up! :cool1:

Now, on to the financials - anybody looking to share a room? I have a studio at Animal Kingdom Villas. If anybody is in need of a roomie, PM me and we can discuss the details.

I'm looking forward to getting to know all you Princesses virtually, and maybe in person in a few months! :thumbsup2

Hello everyone! I am excited to have found this very active thread!

I have started training for the rate but have not yet registered. I have my room reservation and will be staying at the All Stars/Music.

How is everyone's training progressing? I am a first timer and I am just getting out of couch potato mode so I can use some encouragement. I am worried about getting swept but I have been told to concentrate on my plan and that my speed should improve. I sure hope so!

Thanks to everyone for all the information. I will try to read through all the posts.

I totally understand how you feel--I too, am worried about getting swept.

As far as training, I had been following the Couch 2 5K plan, but then after about week 6, I jumped over to the Marathoning for Mortals. When I was doing the C25K, my training was a little sporadic...I would stay on schedule for a while, then would hit a hiccup and would miss several days in a row. I just started the MFM on Friday, and I plan to stay very focused. I know that for me to be able to make it, I have to stick with the plan. I'm doing to combo plan, so that might be something for you to consider since you're somewhat of a beginner like me. Keep us posted on your progress!

I'M BOOKED!

So excited! I also ran 5 miles today which is the most I've ran yet. I did the run/walk thing - took 60 second walk breaks at every 'water stop'. I estimated based on the map where the water stops would be. The minute long walk break was enough to get me re-energized without making me want to keep walking.

Anyway we are staying at POR for 4 nights. I used my 35% off pin code and saved a bundle. We wanted to stay longer but with saving for our wedding and also going to Florida again in October for our friends' wedding, we needed to cut back. Whatever, I'M GOING TO DISNEY! I can't wait to meet some of you there. :)

Congrats on booking your trip! I need to talk to my mom to see if she is still interested in the trip. I talked to her today but she was just talking about my step father's 60th b-day (a week after the race) and I was asking her about donating to my fundraising. I'll try to talk to her again tomorrow to see what she wants to do.
