Official thread for the 2010 Princess 1/2 Marathon & 5k- REGSITRATION IS OPEN!

Joan, Glad you got the hopper -- you're there, so you might as well go do as much as you can!! LOL And you gotta hit all the parks to show off your bling!! ;)

I ALWAYS have my ipod with me when i am out -- i rely on it.. LOL However, i didn't use it for the race last year, because i wanted to hear everything going on around me - and i was racing with my mom, so we chatted the whole time anyway.. which is how i will do it again this year!

I'd leave the ipod at home for the Princess Half as there is great entertainment on the course.

BTW-all of my running is on a TM as I had an injury this spring and when cleared, after three months out, it was TM only and I gotta have my ipod when I'm doing 7 miles. And since all my miles are on a TM, pace isn't an issue-I do all negative splits.

Got to go..laundry, vacuum, market is calling....

Hi guys!

My friend Lisa and I will be doing the Princess Half this year.

I am not officially registered and want to wait until we have a little more training under our belts. My friend has also had an injury and we want to wait till the last minute because of that, too.

I have a few questions, if you guys don't mind helping me out on this one...

1. How does the EXPO work at All Star Sports? How long does it take to pick up your packet?

2. Is there direct transportation from the Poly to All Stars to get the packet?

3. I assume the transportation to Epcot is provided at the resort...what time do we have to be on the bus to make sure we are there in time?

4. How do you guys figure out what and how to eat before the race? I will be walking and it will take me forever to finish, so I need to make sure I have a good breakfast before I walk that far (I usually eat a bowl of cereal and take energy stuff with me on my longer walks).

5. How much is a discounted 3 day PH? How about a 2 day PH? (With the race rate, of course)...we are just trying to budget.

6. Where are all of you guys staying?

I have a ressie at the All Star Sports, but I am considering doing one night at the Poly, maybe two (we are only there Fri and Sat nights). I got a 40% PIN. My friend has had a rough year and I am hoping she can get a lot of R/R as a bonus for the weekend.

The Expo will be at the World of Sports complex, you will be able to get a bus there from any of the host hotels, or the HS.

The time it takes to get you bib etc depends on when you go and if you want to look around the expo, you could be in and out on 10 mins or you could take an hour.

Later on Disney will tell you what time the buses will run from the host hotels to the start line, if you are not at a host hotel you will need to get yourself to the start line.

Try eating different things for breakfast now, you do not want anything new on race day, all I have for a full marathon is a yougart and a health bar.

Thank you so much for the info! :thumbsup2

Theoretically we could get to the Expo from a park, too, right? If we wanted to spend a little bit of time in AK and then head over there after they close?

We plan to get our bibs on Friday to avoid longer lines on Saturday.

From AK you would need to get the bus to a host hotel or to HS and get the expo bus from there.
HS is the only park I have seen expo buses.
Friday evening will be busy, try and go mid afternoon.

Is the Expo not at the All Star Sports hotel? I am confused. It the expo so separate from the All Stars that I would have to take a bus from All Star Sports?

Correct, the expo is at the sports complex. Disney will run special charter buses from the host hotels (All Star Sports is a host hotel) to the sports complex. I haven't done the princess before, but for the marathon weekend in January they pretty much always have a bus waiting. We found it so easy to use their transportation. After you pick up your stuff, you will be able to take a charter bus back to All Star Sports. The same charter buses will be used to get you to the actual race on Sunday.

That is correct! We got there at the expo on Friday right at opening last year -- don't think i will do that again.. LOL It was nuts. I think it would probably be good to go late afternoon, mabye before dinner.. way too crowded last year at opening!! LOL We found the race buses to run great!!

Hi everyone -

I am still working up to running a full 3 miles after having my surgery and getting the approval to run again. My question is how long is everyone's training plan?

Mine is 14 weeks, and it starts on the Sat after Thanksgiving!! LOL

Is this time frame about right for everyone else?:confused3

i just came off a half marathon a month ago. so, i really just spent the rest of october recovering and taking it easy with light cardio/weights etc. i think my plan for the rest of november/early december is to run 3 times a week - 2 times during the week about 3-4 miles, and then a 3rd run anywhere from 4-6 miles through dec, and then starting tacking on longer runs come jan, and feb i will go up to running 4 times a week before the taper starts first week in march. ill also cross train another 3 times a week with weight training, spin classes, the epplitical, and maybe swim if i can get to a pool (which isn't so easy in manhattan...joys of city living)

I came off an injury at the end of the summer and am running only 3x a week ( and all that is on the TM, I so look forward to running outside) and don't plan on doing more than that. Like Fashionist311, I do two short runs, about 4 miles, and one long run about 7 miles each week. I cross train on other days. Depending on the weather, I will walk outside for an hour or do a DVD with some cardio and strength training or walk 9 holes of golf (good arm workout as I have to swing the club many times :rotfl2:). I'll probably pick it up with a long ( 8-10 miles) run once a week come January.

Hi everyone. Just found this thread and subscribed. Have also tried to read all 43 pages! I am a new runner. Did Couch to 5K but due to allergies and breathing issues, still have to run/walk. I have completed two and hope to do 3 to 4 more before Royal Family 5K. Haven't officially signed up yet but 90% sure.

I have several questions if anyone can help. We live north of Atlanta so were planning to drive down Friday, race Saturday and come home Sunday.

Any recommendations for a cheap but good offsite hotel? Also considering Movies as an option. Does the transport to the race outweigh a cheaper room and driving in?

Several posts mentioned discounts on park tickets. Can anyone tell me if there is a one day hopper or two day hopper available and the price?

Is the race course what is posted on Disneyrunning.com? where the route is through Epcot?

And finally? It says everyone gets a medal, does anyone have a picture?

Thanks and sorry for the long post!

Welcome bgenew1
Sorry can't help with your questions, but some one will be along soon I'm sure.

So, I'm pulling my hair our trying to figure out ADR's and park days-looks like my DD and I will drive. She gets out for spring break on the 5th and will drive home and then we will leave and drive part way and then on to WDW on Saturday and the Expo.

Who did the "party" last year? How was it? I know it got some negative review and many went to MK.

On a positive note..I'm going to do it....run outside tomorrow!!!:cool1::cool1: First run outside in so looooong.

Right now my mom and I plan on going to the after party. This will be our first race so we want to do everything; it seems like a lot of people here didn`t like the party but I`ll form my own opinion. :)

Joan, Hi, We did the "party", and were very disappointed with it!!! The one plus was we got right on TSM. It was just like an EMH night at the park basically -- not much difference, except we had to pay for it.
The "goodie" bag treats we were supposed to get in the parks, were just candy necklaces/beads that were left over from the Pirate and Princess parties -- they even gave us the lil' drawstring bag with the P&P logos on them.. I thought that was tacky!!! Or like they were rubbing salt in a wound - as they had cancelled those parties! LOL
I just remember saying - "We would have been better off going to EMH at the MK til midnight"..

Again, i don't know that i would use the word "party" for the night - other than the dj that was set up outside where mickeys hat was - there was no other signs of a "party".. again, it was more like paid EMH.
Definately not worth the $$ that we paid - considering the cost of the race.

Can't help here - never stayed off site, but if you can stay alot cheaper than the All Stars, i guess i would say go for it.. the transportation is nice, but if you will have a car, then i guess it's not a NEED.

Several posts mentioned discounts on park tickets. Can anyone tell me if there is a one day hopper or two day hopper available and the price? Sorry can't help, we have AP's, but hopefully someone can help soon!

Haven't seen the course, but the 5k when we did it, was just thru Epcot - you spend the first 1 mile going along the back of the parking lot - (yes, you aren't even in the park for the first mile! LOL) then you enter Epcot thru a side entrance (CM or something entrance) then run around thru the countries, and back out the front gates..that's all. Easy!!

And finally? It says everyone gets a medal, does anyone have a picture?
Well, i guess it's everyone that finishes right??;) The 5k race medal is a rubber thing - looks like a shield - i will try to post a pic of my dd's later today..(The kids got the same one for the kids races)
Thanks and sorry for the long post!

Just also wanted to add -- if you did the C25K, you will have NO problem finishing this race!!! We are doing it as a walk/run too - since this is my dd's first race (she's will be 9) and she has been begging to do a race - she did the kids one last year, and got a taste of it! :thumbsup2 So, we will do that one with her then the 1/2 marathon the next day..

Thanks for the replies. I am going to call today and see about room rates and ticket prices.

Thanks Stacy, my DD and I were thinking MK as it is open until midnight-now to decide where to eat after the run.

Finished my run OUTSIDE! It was pretty good about 7 miles at a 10 min. mile pace. I don't have the most technically tools of the trade so I use my watch and poor markers on my trail.

Joan, congrats on the outdoor run!!

We are doing the MK too that night - We have ADR's at the Plaza on Main Street, we just want a low key relaxing dinner with a great dessert!! LOL Haven't eaten there - but read great reviews, i know it's not a fancy place -- but it will be fun anyway!
