Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

Mia must like to kick puppies, too, the way she scolds Kent for his smiling. As much as I roll my eyes at him sometimes, I think his smiling is completely genuine! Is she jealous, or what?!?

Anyone else going to the tour show?

I love twitch!!!!
Twitch really is an amazing hip hopper!

So now Billy's hurt, too?! Good grief this is ridiculous!
Isn't it ridiculous. They are obviously pushing these dancers way too much & not giving them enough down time. From Nigel's comment, it also sounds like they are not warming them up properly either.

Three injuries in 3 weeks, achilles, (sp?) ribs & now a knee.........crazy!

Kudos to Billy for knowing that this show is not the be all end all of his career & for deciding not to dance even though they said that he could. He could really, really ruin his career if he pushes himself & really injuries his knee more or even something else because he is compensating for his knee.

What is up with the injuries - I was pulling for Billy Bell since he is a local. I am glad he didn't push himself and perform when he doesn't feel he is ready. I am hoping he can hang in there tomorrow

Joining this thread late this season. I love this show and have watched since Season 1. However, there are a lot of things I have not liked this season. Going to the dancers homes to let them know whether they are in the 10 ten was hokey to say the least. This was a waste of the viewers time - we could have been watching dancing during that time (which is why we watch, right!). I also did not like the change to a top 10 rather than 20 (and to add an extra guy and not girl, was just not right). Also, prefer to have some guest judges rather than the same 3 every week. I am enjoying seeing the all-stars....love Twitch :lovestruc

I am glad Mary is gone, but don't like Mia as a judge. I really was sad to see Mia go last season as a choreographer and wished she was doing more of that this season. But I agree that she is often just mean. And I really don't remember any other seasons where the judges were so obvious in their favorites/least favorites. For the last couple of seasons I have felt that the fan base is mostly young girls, so the voting for the favorite may not necessarily be for america's favorite dancer. Maybe I'm wrong on this.

I really like Lauren and Kent. I liked Alex and Ashley as well. Billy doesn't do anything for me and I just don't get what is so great about Robert :confused3. He seems the same to me, no matter what he is dancing. I think that Lauren and Kent have come the furthest, taken the judges criticisms constructively and learned the most.

No mention of Jose' yet? Simply cannot believe they are doling out the praise, while acknowledging that the choreographer had to resort to having him sit on the edge of the stage. Personally he seems to me a very nice guy. He's participating in a dance competition. He just can't hack it. I felt very bad for Adechike having to dance w/ Jose', giving the performance he gave and then getting critiqued equally. I think maybe what we're seeing is the realization they gave a slot to someone who is nowhere near ready for this show and they're doing their best to cover that fact & not rip up a nice kid on TV.

Nigel did say they're bringing in people to help them solve the injury epidemic and mentioned warm-ups. Anybody involved in dance knows how important warm-ups are. IMO that's not the problem. Melsmice sort of alluded to the issue last week in regards to the extreme choreo, the Adechike/Anya salsa being an example, the lack of time to practice & build muscle memory. I'm sure she knows what she's talking about and I think it's compounded by the fact that you're sending rookies in to dance w/ All Stars who don't have such a steep learning curve w/ the technique of the styles, just choreo itself. Two contestants, both as fish out of water, learning together probably afforded less extreme choreo in the past.

I bolded the 2 items above.

Yes, it was extremely obvious that the choreographer simplified the routine for Jose'. The judges still praised him though. While he might have acted our the routine very well & put a lot of emotion in to what he had to do...he did not dance!

The 2nd thing I bolded is so important for a dancer. You need to practice & allow your body & mind find it's own muscle memory so you can do the steps properly. These dancers are trying so hard to perfect something that they are given in a short time. They are becoming tense & stressed when they can't do something, causing injury to themselves.

I've been there. You want so bad to do the steps perfectly & it eventually leads to injury when you don't have the time to learn & perfect it properly. :guilty:

....I think they should rename the show So You Think You Can Get Injured!!

Well, I think I might just have to appoint myself the exec. in charge of programming and cancel that show.

We will now return to our regularly scheduled program, already in progress, where amazingly talented dancers show off their abilities in wonderful dance numbers.

I did not realize the workload of a network exec. would be so burdensome.

I have now re-branded the show SYTYCD, sans injury.

Phew, I've done months of work before nine a.m.!

I must have incorrectly heard Nigel I thought he said Billy could dance next week. I didn't realize he was cleared to dance this week. Would have loved to have seen him do that step routine with Kent.

Just to show you how ignorant I am about dance, Cat kept talking about step dance and I was expecting Irish Step dancing. I knew when they introduced Maldonado as the choreographer it wasn't going to be no Riverdance :lmao:

I liked Nigel's idea of combining with mark Burnett and call it So You Think You Can Survive Dance (or something like that).

I am certainly not a dance expert, but I do confess that I love to watch people dance! :rotfl: However, even I know that Jose should no longer be on the show. He's a nice kid who has tried to do what has been asked of him. He just can't, though, and the longer the season goes one the more obvious it is that he needs much more training. I am another one who doesn't get the Robert love. (My 16 year old DD does, though! :lovestruc) Billy is an excellent dancer, but sometimes I have trouble feeling a connection with him. That leaves Adechike, whom I really like, Lauren, and Kent. Out of those three, my untrained eye says Kent is the best!

My prediction is that Billy, Jose, and Robert will be in the bottom three with Jose going home.

I think you may be correct. Although, I could see it being Adechike instead of Robert in the bottom three. (I don't agree with that, though.)

I think he did say that he could have danced last night, but Billy chose not to as he didn't feel his body was ready or something like that. I also think he is cleared for tonight or at least next week.

This is the way we understood it also! Could have danced last night but chose not to--good decision!

Last night I enjoyed the dance with Comfort and Adechicke. I did not see the last 2 dances though. Have it tivoed so I will watch!

Although I am not overly fond of Robert, last night I saw the possibility of him becoming a ballroom/Latin dancer, when he partnered so well. He's big, yet flexible/fast, and has a nice carriage. He's no Pasha, but he has potential!
