Official So You Think You Can Dance Season 7 Thread

It's so funny that so many, including Mean Mama Mia herself find her criticisms so harsh. Many instructors at the dance studio my DD's dance at have that technique. OMG, I must be getting sucked in & immune to it.

What I heard about Mia/Brandon was that he came out of her daddy's studio, so she had seen him for a very long time. I think she may have been attempting to light a fire under his butt and w/o the background the audience saw it as uncalled for.

I was a little surprised at Nigel's cavalier attitude about the surgery Alex needs. It may not be dramatic as a procedure(I have no clue), but the results & recovery aren't a gimme. I send only the best to Alex, as a person and a dancer -- I'm sure for him it's impossible to separate the two. Prayers to him and his docs.

I don't know. Nigel seemed more calm than cavalier IMHO. It is
more likely than not that Alex can dance again. He can be rehabbed. It wasnn life threatening.

I'm not sure how Nigel could have Altered his delivery without sounding like Alex's career is over. Minimally---if Alex wanted to stick with ballet, I'm guessing he wouldn't have bothered with this show twice. Perhaps he can't be part of a company. But it seems likely that dancing can still be part of his life.

Anyone know if Beckham is returning to soccer? He had the same injury last fall.

I don't know if I am right or not but I tend to think that sometimes the judges (either purposefully or not) criticize the contestants so harshly that the audience then votes for them! I like Adechike but he hasn't really done anything SO great yet that would get me to vote for him but after Mia was so nasty to him I bet a lot of people actually voted because they felt bad for him!
I think that same thing happened with Evan (was that last season or the season before?) The judges were really critical of him throughout the season and people kept voting for him.

I've thought this...along the same lines, it seems like every time Mia says someone is her favorite, they wind up in the bottom. I also think the judges know full well who is pulling in a ton of votes, so they know who the fans like, and maybe try to even things out somewhat. It would be interesting to go back and see what the judges said to, say, Benji.

I'm still sad about Alex. What a shame! I do hope he can continue his dance career, he's amazing. And i think his comment to Kent at the end was more of, "I'm out of the way, you're #2, it's yours now." Because I'm sure the dancers are aware of how the voting goes and who's really popular.

Whoa, maybe I missed something! What did he say to Kent? I erased my DVR already.

Anyone know if Beckham is returning to soccer? He had the same injury last fall.

I don't know how Beckham's rehab is going; but I believe his surgery was in March, so I don't think anyone expected to see him doing much until at least 6 months out... so September-ish.

DH ruptured his achilles a couple of years ago and had surgical repair. He's got a big, ugly scar, but he's back to playing baseball and basketball. (recreational weekend warrior level ;)) DH was a collegiate level athlete and he says he's glad this injury didn't happen then, because he definitely feels like he's lost some function. Of course he didn't rehab at the level a collegiate or pro athlete or dancer would either.

It sounds like rather than a partial or complete tear, Alex had his tendon detach from the bone. From my limited research when DH was injured, I think that might actually be better for him as far as coming back from the injury. :thumbsup2 It will mean surgery and some serious rehab though.

BTW, I agree with the mean Mia comments. Never in a million years would I have thought I'd miss Mary's screaming, but I'd take that over the personal, negative nonsense Mia often dishes out.

Not as excited for tonight now that Alex is gone though. :guilty:

The loss of Alex is huge. He truly has a gift & I certainly wish him well.

I'm losing track of what day it is. I posted thinking today was Tuesday! Too much going on I guess.

Well, what are everyone's thoughts about last night?

The night started out w/ a real downer for me when I realized one of the dancers didn't come out for the opening. It's odd she wasn't in the audience. Best wishes to Ashley & hopefully things will work out for Alex.

Simply do not get the refusal to be honest about Jose. Mr. Cellophane? Stunk. Then of course he "randomly drew the yellow star." Ugh! The b-boy # really wasn't all that -- AND he was seriously outclassed by Dominic. He may well be the nicest guy you can imagine. He's competing on a dance show. I'm incredibly fed up w/ the producers'/judges' bias & agenda here.

I think I may need to step away from the TV because the first thing I said when I saw Robert was, why is he wearing a Travis outfit? Beautiful #. Sad but beautiful.

I was also bummed about another injury! When you see what you have them do, it makes sense. That salsa number was fraught with danger.

After missing Alex all night, I thought the rest was just all right.

My top three for the night were Kent, Billy & Lauren.

My bottom three were Adecheke, Robert and Jose - who is hopefully going home. I also just thought he was bad last night, in both dances. His b-boying didn't compare to Dominic.

I really liked Billy last night. My favorite number was the boogie shoes. I thought it was just so fun and probably harder then it looked to get that flow.

I liked the Travis number - but I am kind of over the melodramatic contemporary numbers. The kind of all look the same.

I am over Jose and the favoritism. How is it possibly fair that he gets a B-Boy routine when they have never had one before? And I did not think it was that great of a routine, it was okay but I was much more impressed with Legacy last season.
I really liked Robert's contemporary last night but for some reason I just do not find him genuine. He is a really great dancer but he bugs me during the judging. He does not deserve to be in the bottom 3 this week though.

Billy was really great last night and so was Kent and Lauren. Adechike is good but he doesn't stand out for some reason.
It is a shame about Ashley, I can't imagine what it must feel like to get on a show like this and then get injured. I actually have really enjoyed the format this season with the all-stars but only having ten (well actually 11) contestants doesn't give them a lot of room when someone gets injured.

It's hard to guess who is going home tonight. Possibly Jose.

It's funny that people don't like Robert, he is my favorite. My least favorite? Billy followed closely by Kent. I think they are way over the top in their personality and they both just rub me the wrong way. Guess it's a good thing I can't vote

I just hope Ashley gets better in time to be able to dance for her life tonight. She and Lauren have quickly become two of my favorites, along with Kent.

But, I've got a beef. When the heck is someone going to pull Twitch's name out of the hat so we can see him dance again?

I think having 2 injuries in one seasons says a lot about how much they are pushing the dancers. Hopefully, Ashley will be able to return.

Off to watch the results show now!

Am I losing it or did Jose not even dance in the opening number? I was looking for him specifically... I only saw him push Kat out onstage at the end.

But just revealed he's in the bottom three... it's about time!

I was excited to see Jose in the bottom...I don't particularly care if it's rude :snooty: He's not a good dancer. And I don't get the whole "he's such a sweetheart!" I don't even see that, ugh, he drives me bonkers.

I can't stand Kent either. I keep hoping he'll wind up in the bottom too...but that's more because his personality rubs me the wrong way versus his lack of dance ability.

And who's excited about the new tour? I just went on Ticketmaster, and only a few locations are listed, so I assume they'll add more this next week if the presale starts soon. I really wish we didn't have to have any season 6 dancers in it (except Legacy), since this season's and the all-stars are so good! Can't wait!

And Billy's Boogie Shoes number was the FIRST one I've ever liked him in! Definitely his style. If Kent doesn't win this season, with the way the judges are pimping him, I'll eat *my* boogie shoes:rotfl:.

I totally agree with this. I thought Jose's Mr. Cellophane number was HORRIBLE. And I am completely tired of Kent's aw shucks attitude. He is a beautiful dancer, but his personality is killing me. I thought both Billy and Robert were amazing this week, and neither have been my favorites. All in all, I miss Alex. His dancing truly moved me.

Couldn't agree more. I, personally, don't think there is anyone this season that compares to Alex.

Good-bye Ashley.

I think they're pushing these dancers too hard. What a shame.
I agree. To have 2 dancers injured in just as many weeks & not be able to continue is saying something.

I have to wonder if the choreographers are pushing the dancers so hard just to "show off" their own choreography.

Not only did I not care for the salsa number that Adechike & Anya did, I thought it was extremely difficult & too dangerous for dancers to learn in one week. I thought it was choppy because they were unable to perfect the difficult moves/tricks that were in the routine. The judges praised the choreographer though & she just ate it all up & was proud as a peacock. They didn't have enough time to practice it to make it look smooth.

I guess I'm just disappointed about Alex & while I still love watching, I'm not enjoying the dancers as much since he's been voted off. :guilty:
