Yep, this is how I spent part of Christmas Eve trying to get a cake from the Boardwalk Bakery:

Went to bus stop at SOG and discovered I would have to wait 25 min. for bus
Hopped bus to TTC and as soon as I arrived I just walked to the next bus in front of it and rode to HS.
Got off bus and walked to boat for ride to Boardwalk.
Got cake and waited 10 minutes for boat back.
Took boat to HS and discovered TTC bus was already there but no SOG bus yet.
As the TTC bus is pulling out, SOG bus pulls up (oh, well).
Hop off at TTC and the SOG bus is sitting there waiting, hop on it.
Arrive back at SOG.
Sounds simple, but it actually took almost 2 hours. I had a 4:10 dinner ressie for the Candlelight Processional. I dropped the cake off in our room and brushed my hair and headed back out and the bus was right there for the TTC.
Monorail to Epcot and hike to the Garden Grill-made it with 5 minutes to spare. I actually had time to make a potty run before they paged us.:rotfl2:

The cake was so not worth the time I had to put in to get it. I had told them that it was a cake for 3 people for dessert on Christmas. Picked up a cake large enough for 16 people and the buttercream frosting melted unless we kept it in the fridge. It just wasn't worth the trouble, oh, yeah, it cost me $45!!:sad2:

Its a common complaint ANYWHERE on disney property - it takes forever to get from one side of the property to another. I've gone from Caribbean to Chef Mickeys for breakfast and it took us over an hour. There are just so many resorts, so many parks and so many people that there is often no simple way to get from point a to point b.

Question:

Trying to decide between SoG & Caribbean Resort:
- Personal opinion, Is it worth it to pay a little more for SoG rather than stay at CBR?

- Are there pics of the Family Suites on here? I tried searching, but couldn't find pics.

- Can you use the amenities at the other Disney resorts? Could we use the beach & boat/bike rentals @ CBR even if we stay at SoG?

Thanks for your help!

I don't know what rank you are, but even with the 40% discount Shades of Green is cheaper for us then CBR, when you count not paying tax and SoG and you pay tax at CBR. I love SoG and would pay more for it then CBR (much better location and bigger rooms), but for us it is cheaper.

This is the current price list for SOG:
http://shadesofgreen.org/roomrates.pdf

I have never found a room cheaper, unless you count one of the value resorts, during value season, but that's comparing apples and oranges - value resort rooms are tiny, the rooms at SOG are the size of a deluxe room elsewhere on disney property, so you can actually sleep 5 - 2 queens and a pull out couch. We're paying 117 this visit. Value season rooms at CBR START at $149.

And yes, you can use the amenities at the other resorts as far as I know - we've never had a problem. The sog website has pictures of the suites:

Thanks for the info - I must have been looking at the wrong info when I calced the amounts for each b/c it was way cheaper! Couldn't get the suite that we wanted, but we did request connecting rooms. And, hope, hope, hoping that we get them.

**Just made our reservations for July!! :) The reservationist was super sweet

Thanks again for all of your help!

**Sorry, no other question, I found my answer - the search button works. :)

Can someone tell me about the breakfast buffet at the Garden Gallery?

I would like to know the price for adults and children, what is offered and what beverages are available (juices, milk, coffee, tea, soda).

Thanks!

Just read about Evergreens - I am so upset. We love Evergreens. After the parks we would go to hang out at the pool. We would run into Evergreens order our food to go, come back pick it up and eat by the pool. It was so convenient for food & drinks by the pool. My DS also loves the arcade.

I think moving it my Magianos (sp) is a big mistake, it is too far to walk to if you want to take with you back to the pool area.

Do that many people really work out on vacation. Isn't walking around Disney a work out!

We have been going to Evergreens for years!

most of that info is on the SOG website. Breakfast buffet was fine though and cheap. I'll tell you this - the food at the dinner buffet when we were there in 2006 was darn near inedible. The restaurant was EMPTY (this was christmas week, so no lack of people) . But breakfast was fine.

We went the week before Thanksgiving and ate breakfast almost every morning at the Garden Gallery.

My boys were 10 and 11 at the time and they charged me for 2 children each time. I didn't ask, it's just how the bill came. If I remember correctly, we paid $38 for breakfast which included the buffet, drinks and the tip.

The buffet was great! Cereal, bagels, eggs, bacon, fresh fruit (mostly melon), pastry, waffles, pancakes, etc... We never walked away hungry!

I have to admit that the breakfast buffet at Chef Mickey's was better, but, at $140 I'll take the Garden Gallery any day!

Have fun. Wish we were going again.

Thank you so much! :flower3: That was exactly what I wanted to know, and I could not find it on the SOG website. We probably won't do that every day of our trip, but maybe once or twice.

I hope you get to plan another trip soon! pixiedust:

Hello buffettgirl,

I agree their breakfast buffet is tasty and affordable. One glitch we found was that it was tough to make the 7:30am bus to the am EMH park, so we did this a few mornings instead............

The little express food/sandwich shop near the bus loading area opens at 6am (i think the buffet opened at 7 am). My DH would go down there and buy a bunch of freshly made (to order) breakfast sandwiches. He would bring them back to the room and we would have our own cereal and juice with the warm food he just bought. The decision was based on time management issues and not on the price.

Since my group isn't big on breakfast we always bring cereal and pick up milk downstairs. Timing for the bus was always the issue for us and that way it worked pretty good.

I remember a few times when it was closer to 7:15 or later when the GG opened and it messed us up royally. I hate rushing anyone through a meal to make a bus. However, as my DD gotten older, we have taken on the "walk to the Poly" attitude. But this last trip we didn't walk over at all. It seemed that we coordinated our schedules better and used the bus every time.

you're reading my mind because that's exactly what I told dh we're going to do this trip. Now, my family enjoys a big breakfast - it's something we never get at home EVER but trying to get to EMH after sitting for a sit down breakfast just doesn't happen. So this year I told dh we're going to pick up cereal and then pick up light breakfast items at the express. So much easier. (but my kids are still dreaming of making their own waffles on that waffle iron)

FWIW - when we were there in 2006 the man that owned the express was so nice. (from what I gathered, he simply leases the space from SOG) and one day I asked if he had any plain drinkable yogurt - I explained that my son had diabetes and plain drinkable yogurt was something that my son loved before bedtime and helped keep his blood sugar stable at night and that we were really missing it on our trip. He asked what brand he liked and I told him, and the next day as we were walking past he showed me he had 6 bottles of it. He was so kind to do that for us!

I am wondering if there are refrigerators in the rooms? My boys aren't big breakfast eaters and I follow Weight Watchers so I would like to bring some cereal from home and then buy some milk to keep in the room.

Thanks.

I just made my ressies for 26 September -1 October.. for the week after our cruise. I am most bummed about the loss of Evergreen's. does anyone know if they are planning on re opening the bar/lounge that was over by the Ice cream shop back up?

we would always wind down our day with a few rinks at the bar at Evergreen's and will be most disappointed if there is nothing like that option any more. it's where we had the BEST conversations with people....

Several of us have tried to contact SOG to get more info about Evergreen's, no response from them so far. Nothing has been mentioned about Eagles reopening. Maybe they will get around to answering everyone's questions soon. Oh, yeah, since they are suppose to close on Feb 1, they need to let us know what the real plan is.
