In regard to the walking path to the Poly - what room locations are nearest to that? My DS made reservations today - but there were no magnolia pool view rooms avail. so, he'd like to request nearest to the "walkway" - if that makes sense. He assumes walking to the Poly may be on occasion better than waiting for a bus?

Also, if anyone could tell me how the buses work - is it like staying at a WDW resort? Basically, are there buses for each park? How does it work?

Thanks so much for all of your help!!!

I have to say - SOG from the photo's and post I've read looks beautiful.

ETA: I did find a resort map - if that helps anyone with telling me what location I'm looking for.

Buses: to TTC run every fifteen minutes. all the others run once an hour and go directly to the park.. I know the DTD bus shares with a water park or two if I recall correctly.

the walk to Poly and the monorail is like ten minutes. we used the DTD bus a lot and was very happy with the punctuality. the drop off point wasn't so hot..but at the same time, was away from all the OTHER DoPs so there wasn't a whole lotta crowding going on.

we never seemed to time any of the other buses very well so ended up using the monorail or taking a bus to Poly and then walking back across the street. tack on another 10-15 minutes if you want to go to Grand Floridian. but oh man is the view/walk NICE.....
as for location.. we preferred the old wing near Evergreens, buts since that's no longer an option( or won't be by the time we get there, we'll just wing it.

I've stay at SOG 4 times over the years. I've never seen the "golf cart" that will give you a ride up the road when walking back from the Poly. Does it run certain hours, etc? I've love to catch a ride on it sometime, as we normally walk back and forth to catch the monorail.

Bell Services runs that. Just stop by on your way as you would walk to Poly and see if they can give you a ride. Sometimes they are out on a ride but will pick you up as you are walking.

It's called the Shady Shuttle.

As to location...unless you are on the back end of either building it just isn't that much of a walk. Looking at the map of the resort it just doesn't look that much different. I've stayed in each building and we prefer the new side because of the parking garage. I hate to drag my bags through the lobby to go to the older side.

You still have to go out the front door to walk to the Poly. In 11 years I haven't seen a shortcut (doesn't mean there isn't one) that would get you there faster from any particular side.

Thank You - That is what I was basically wanting to know. Having NO idea about reference points as to locations, I had NO idea where the Poly was in relation to SOG - specifically the walkway/path to get over there. So, basically, it doesn't matter where his room is then!

Thanks for your help!

Just booked our 2010 stay at Shades of Green! :thumbsup2 12 nights in the suite - woohoo! Can't wait! I'm bummed about the possibility of Evergreens closing though.

Several of us have tried to contact SOG to get more info about Evergreen's, no response from them so far. Nothing has been mentioned about Eagles reopening. Maybe they will get around to answering everyone's questions soon. Oh, yeah, since they are suppose to close on Feb 1, they need to let us know what the real plan is.

That's interesting... When we were there last summer, I didn't even think about Eagles being there or not. When did it close? I say "interesting" because I just today called to make a change to my reservation, and while waiting on hold, the recording informed me about all of SOGs dining options, including Evergreens and even Eagles.

Dh just booked our room for our trrip in Nov. Can't wait, we weren't going to go this yr but with the military ticket deal we just couldn't pass up another trip. Can't wait, this will be our 4th stay at SOG we really love it. :cheer2:

It read it in an article about SOG a while back. They were talking about it being such a family place that even the lounge had closed due to lack of business. If you look on the resort map, it shows the area behind East Meets West as Eagles but when you check the dining legend, it is not listed as a dining option. In the Green Scene Newsletter (the info sheet at check-in) It does not list it under Dining & Shopping, however, the phone number for Eagles Lounge is listed under Useful Numbers.

:cool1: How exciting!

I asked this question somewhere else and got no response. It occurred to me tonight that no one would know better about refillable mugs and SOG than the SOG thread-masters!

We're planning to walk to the Poly to ride the monorail to and from MK. We also drink a ton of pop. Are we allowed to buy mugs at the Poly to use as we come and go from their resort on our way to other destinations?

I don't want to break the rules. I'm not even trying to "bend" them, or game the system. I'd just like to know if anyone who is *in* a given resort can use a mug from that resort, only while *in* said resort, or if the person must be a registered guest at that given resort.

Make sense? Thanks in advance for any insight. :thumbsup2

I have never stayed at a WDW resort, so I can't say for sure, but it was always my understanding that you had to be a registered guest at a WDW resort in order for you to purchase one of the refillable mugs. In other words, if you are a guest at Poly, you can buy a refillable mug from Poly. I don't think you can be a guest at SOG, buy a refillable mug over at Poly and fill it as you come and go.

Have you considered alternatives? Since you are a SOG guest, you have to provide your own transportation. Be it a rental car or car service, you can sneak in a grocery stop, buy your own drinks for really cheap, then just use the room fridge and ice machine for your needs.

I'm going with Sleepy on this one. Last month when we were there. we ate at another resort and I was really surprised at how much smaller the mugs are now. I've stayed at ASM, Contemporary, AKL before and the mugs were a lot bigger. And it's not like you are going to pay $5 for a mug--they are really expensive nowadays. I looked at the price when we were there and remember being shocked at what they costs but the number has left my mind. In 2000 if I remember correctly, we paid $12 each and really didn't get anywhere our money's worth for it.

You will save so much more by picking up your own stuff at at store.

You could just ask. That's what I would do. However, i've seen the mugs for sale and no one ever asks if you are a resort guest or not. So, it's your best guess.

I called today to make changes to my res & asked about Evergreens. Here is the response I received:

Evergreens closing as of Feb 2nd.

From 2 Feb - 8 Feb, Evergreens will continue to serve lunch

On 9 Feb, Mangino's will begin serving lunch. This will be on a trial period.

The area that was formerly Evergreens is being turned into a Spa.

HTH!

I will be anxious to here from people who will be going next month. Maybe we can get more info on just what is going on.

I am more worried about the bar/evening drinks options. I don't care how 'family friendly' SoG is. every night the week we were the bar area was SRO. we sat next to WW2 era Vets and next to guys fresh outta Iraq. some of the BEST conversations we had were at that Bar.

I hope they at least re open Eagles( didn't know the name before) to make up for the loss of the Evergreen's option.

Just got off with reservations and he was like, "where did you hear about Evergreens?" Apparently a lot of people have asked similar questions. He said that "business was down" at Evergreens and I'm thinking what could he be talking about? I was there last month and they had pretty good business from what I could tell. Not packed, standing outside to get in, but tables pretty much filled up.

About that time I pointed out that some of us would starve to death without Evergreens. I suggested they just move Evergreens to the Eagles location (so food and drink) and he suggested transferring me to guest services!!:rotfl2: He was too funny. I did ask how that would affect room-service and the take out and he was really ready for me to hang up.:)

>>The area that was formerly Evergreens is being turned into a Spa.<<

...The Shades Of Green Golf Resort and Spa..... :lmao:

Big mistake with the other Disney resorts and the Dolphin offering spa services. Plus, The Four Seasons opening on 1 OCT.

One positive is that The Evergreen Spa may cost less than other spas at WDW.

Curious on who the vendor is.

Hope they put a bar with Hi-Def TV's in the Italian eatery.
