I was thinking the same thing. Not to question your training plan, but I'm very surprised that it has you hitting your peak mileage two months before the race. Most training plans will have you hit your peak long run 3 weeks before the race. 3 weeks is plenty of time for a taper to recover and rest up for a marathon. I think 8-10 weeks is way too much time. Personally, I'd try to find a different plan, one that has your longest run scheduled for the weekend of December 17-18.
I did my first Goofy in 2010. I did do the WDW marathon the year before just to get the feel of a full before deciding on Goofy. There is plenty of time to train and do the Goofy without doing a full first. If you really need to get that feel of a full you could do a local race. But I've known people who just went for it and had no regrets. Just make sure to do all the training so you don't end up with any injuries.Hello all, hope you don't mind if I jump in.
I am really wanting to get back to running again and I am thinking of setting a rather large goal. I've only completed 2 halfs (both last year 3 weeks apart - not the best idea but I lived to tell about it) and am thinking of doing goofy for 2012. I am watching the registration and know it's half way to capacity so...
Wondering if anyone has the Jeff Galloway Goofy training plan? I don't see it up on the RunDisney site right now and I'd really like to look at it to see if it is even doable for me before I fork over the $330+ to sign up.
Also I'd like to hear anyone's experience with the Goofy. Tips, advice for 1st timers, did you run/complete any marathons prior and things of that nature....
Thanks so much!!!

There are fewer spots available for the Goofy Challenge overall, which does not correlate to the Half Marathon.
I believe last year the were around 7500 or 8000 Goofy runners

kmg148 Sounds like a slower pace may be in order. Are you running outside or indoors on a TM? How are you determining what pace to run? It takes me a while to get comfortable on my long runs--anywhere from 1/2 mile to 2-3 miles, but after that I find a rhythm. You should bee able to run comfortably at your training pace after your warm-up. If not, try slowing it down to see if that helps. Also--if outdoors--do you run with a watch or Garmin? That may help. I know that I need mine to help me get to the right pace. I can run fairly consistntly once I'm there, it's just getting there that I still need hlp with.

I did my first full at the first Goofy. You have time to set a good training base and get a schedule for the marathon training set if you are working at it now. I follow the Marathon for Mortals (MfM) John Bingham plan for the marathon training. You will have to consider that you may be a bit slower with 2 events and will definitely need to get a plan organized.Hello all, hope you don't mind if I jump in.

well, I did it! I signed up for the half marathon! Now I'm super nervousMy friends did it last year and are doing it again this year and have encouraged me to go with them. I'm excited as they have already done it and can answer questions for me and help me with my training. Still super nervous though, did I say that already?
Really excited though. It's a personal goal and I'm excited to accomplish this for myself
oh, and I don't know if anyone can answer this, but did anyone have an issue with the price of the half? I got an email from Disney Visa for $35 off if registering before 4/24. If the price was $140 wouldn't that make it $105? When I went to register, it was $125? hmmmmm.... ? just curious

For my 1st time I trained with back 2 back (b2b) weekend runs every other weekends as the long run (LR) weekends began at 12 miles. 6 miles Sat/12 miles Sun, 7/14...Bingham has the progression going every other weekend with drop back weeks and that worked for me. I only train to 20 miles and that too works for me and I have discovered that I do not need to train b2b weekends.
Hope to hear good training news from you as it moves along.
I haven't seen the Galloway Goofy plan yet.

So I think I've decided not to do Goofy so that I can train for Boston again (assuming I can get in). But I want to go to marathon weekend, so I'd really like to do the marathon relay. I've already done Donald, and it seems like it would be fun to get the Chip/Dale medal. Only problem--no partner. Think I can advertise for one?I'm willing to do either leg, and I can pretty comfortably commit to running 2 hours or better.
Sort of messes up my plan to register by tomorrow and get that discount. Oh well.
