Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

After reading many of the pages here (100+) I didn't see what I was looking for. DD will be 9 during our November trip, and I want to order a cake for her. Now I'm thinking about Ohana or 1900 Park Fare (sp?) for her birthday dinner. She is into Hannah Montana and High School Musical, she does not have a favorite character anymore:guilty: Has anyone done a cake along those lines and how did it turn out? Is the GF bakery our best bet for this or another place? There will be only 4 of us, so I don't want a huge cake.

Finally got the pictures on the computer of my DD5's Aurora cake that we had last week at Narcoosees. It was very tasty, and just too pretty. My daughter was thrilled.

It was chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and a tinted fondant over it. Those are white chocolate covered truffles on top.

Absolutely beautiful!!!!

My sister's cake had chocolate frosting and an edible image. I'll post the pic again so you can see that the image turns out really nice. I love the colors on hers. I thought it was so colorful and vibrant. This is from the Crystal Palace.

Thank you! And thanks also to Mickey28 for your reply. I want something with a Tinkerbell theme, preferably Tinkerbell and the castle, and I'm just glad I can get this on chocolate, as I'm not hearing the greatest reports on the vanilla icing (Crisco--Yuck!)

I thought I'd share the cake we shared on our Anniversary at O'hana's. They lost the order but it was beautiful when they found it. the staff brought out the cake – chocolate with fruit filling and white butter cream frosting with red roses (we each carried one red rose and put it in a vase during the ceremony) and one pink rose in honor of our DD in heaven.

The staff sang to us, but it was funny because our very wonderful server with a great personality, I call him clueless Cliff, sang Happy Birthday to our DD and wished her a Happy Birthday when we were leaving. Now mind you, the cake said Happy Anniversary, the other staffers were singing Happy Anniversary, but he kept on doing the Birthday thing, it really was cute. We were so full we had the cake boxed up an we ate it over the next several days.

Lorli, it's such a pretty cake! How did it taste? 'Ohana seems like a great place to celebrate an anniversary.

I just have to mention a connection I felt reading your post. I've posted about my saga ordering our anniversary cake at the Poly. It started when I called them to discuss decoration of the cake and one thing I wanted was that there be an icing iris somewhere in the flowers decoration in memory of our DD who was named Iris.

Well, the bakery at the GF is really able to do most anything... for a fee of course. You can call the cake hotline, then get transferred to Linda at the GF and talk with her about it. If they have one of the edible images of Hannah available, you could probably put it on an 8" cake. But if they don't have something standard like that, you'd have to go with a 10" cake to get it customized.

Good luck, and let us know what you find out!

Lisa

On Sept 1, we will be celebrating a B-Day at Chef's de France. Other than the Mouse Cake which I see listed here, is there any other choice? Anyone have any pics of what Chef's offers? Thanks...something fun she is 13 :goodvibes

Lorli- That cake looks great. Was it good? We are wanting to order DS4 5th Birthday cake from 'Ohana. What did you think about the icing? I want to see if they will pipe balloons and stuff other than flowers since he is a boy and I don't really want a edible image on this one since we've had that before.

Were they able to accomodate you? Do you have a picture of the cake or maybe you haven't gone yet? Keep us posted.

The cake was delicious and the frosting was similar to mom's homemade buttercream frosting. They certainly don't skimp on it either. They are professionals, so it would surprise me if they could not accomodate you. Please share your cake when you return.

We're still working on it. Going next month. I've left it in DH's hands cos I'd reached my frustration saturation point.

I'm glad to hear it tasted yummy! That is a relief to hear!

Hi lorli

Do you remember how much it cost ?
The cake does look good and is quite beautifuld I'm thinking about it for DD 21st BB at Ohannas

Hi!
We are doing a wishes cruise in September. The boat is picking us up at the Contemporary, but from what I understand, it is coming from wilderness lodge. Has anyone ordered a cake from Private Dining for a Wishes cruise? Do I have my choice of Resort Bakeries?

I was wondering if you found any info out that you can share. We're doing the wishes cruise in Nov. for our DS's 13th b'day. We will be leaving from the WL. When I inquired about the cruise, I was told that if you book the premium that you get a cake included to celebrate. When I called to reserve the cruise, I was told that you just get soda/water/snacks and not a cake. Our dilemma now is do we order a cake and have them deliver it to the boat, have a cake at DS's b'day dinner @ Boma's, or in our room @ AKLV's. The theme of his b'day celebration is safari animals. I saw the photo of the Zebra stripped cake and wasn't that thrilled with it.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated and thanks to all who have posted such wonderful and helpful tips. I'm already planning what to do for our 20th anniversary in 2 yrs.:yay:

I love this thread!! I just called and ordered a 8" choc cake with white choc icing and some choc covered strawberries for our room for DH's bday:woohoo: He will be surprised:)

Offhand, do you happen to know the cost on the Chocolate covered strawberries? And are those available for delivery at every resort? We'll be at CBR.

I'm sorry I didn't get the price for the strawberries, I hope they aren't too expensive- lol. I called the cake hotline and was transferred to the Poly for my order. You might want to call the hotline # on the first post and just listen for your option for resort and press that to talk to someone. Wish I could be more help.

Beautiful, May I ask how much was this cake??

We did the wishes cruise as well. We did not get a cake but I had thought about doing it at one time. We did order from private dining and we were supposed to order through GF which is where we left from. You contact whoever you are leaving froms private dining. HTH.

I know this was probably asked throughout the tons of pages but I couldn't find the answer... How soon can you order the Cinderella Slipper Dessert from CRT? Or a cake from CRT?

From my own experience (and when you call the cake hotline this is what they tell you) they only need 48 hours notice. I wouldn't call any earlier than a week before as I've heard of them loosing cake orders.

If you really want to order something earlier than please call and confirm before you leave for the trip.
