Here is the 6" cake that we recently ordered at The Garden Grill:

It's funny I was told that you couldn't customize the 6 inch cakes. Are you able to do much with the cakes like adding photos?

Thanks

I don't think they are customizable at all. The cm on the dining hotline said I could tell the person at the booth when I arrive if I want a 6" cake which means they are frozen. I ordered an 8" cake for me and my DGF just so they could write on it :sad2:

Yep that's what I was told too, but this cake above had some work done to it unless that's the basic 6 inch cake.

The 6" cake we had at The Garden Grill was OK taste-wise. It was a frozen cake that was thawed. It wasn't the greatest cake, but it certainly wasn't bad, either.

It is not customized. This is the generic 6" cake that everyone who orders a 6" cake gets at The Garden Grill unless the server added the sprinkles as an extra for us.

I also ordered a 6" cake for my dd at 'Ohana. It was slightly different in that they did not put Mickey sprinkles on it, but otherwise it's about the same at the Garden Grill cake. The frosting seemed to be neater on the 'Ohana cake, and the 'Ohana cake did taste slightly better than the Garden Grill cake, though I'm not sure why as they were both the standard frozen cakes.

ETA: Here's a picture of the 'Ohana cake:

I just got off the phone with the cake hotline and got exactly what we wanted. I ordered a chocolate cake with chocolate icing with an edible image of Cindarella, Jasmine, Arial, Aurora, and Belle. It's exactly what our daughter wanted. The cost is $33.

Sounds great - which restaurant/resort did you order this from? DD4's 5th bday will be during our vacation and I want to order her a cake w/a princess on it. Everyday she changes her mind about which princess is her favorite:rotfl2: so maybe if I could get more then one that would be great. Shes having lunch at the castle so I'll probably order one from there but have also thought about just getting one through in room dining. Thanks for any info.

So... (we're talking cake delivered to our room)

8 inch is the smallest you can get and have customized?

For 2 adults, approximately how many slices would this mean?

What is the average price for an 8 inch cake?

Who would I have a better chance of getting one of those Mini Wedding cakes from? The GF or the Boardwak Bakery....

Considereing dinner at Narcoossee's or the Flying Fish...

(on a note i was married at the YC, so I would assume that perhaps our yummy wedding cake came from the boarwalk bakery?)

That cake looks WONDERFUL. We'll be celebrating our 10th Anniv at WDW in Dec. Do you know if Narcoosee's will deliver cakes to a resort room?

I just tried to order this cake for my dinner at Narcoossee's on 9/7 and was told that it's only available in a 10" option  Do you know who you spoke to on the phone? I really want the 6 inch as it's only two of us for dinner. I ended up getting the mini castle cake, but I'd much rather have this one.

I think we had ours cake into 8 slices, but it depends on how big you cut each slice. For the 8 in I believe its $25 plus $8 for the edible image which makes it $33 total. This was how much our cake from the Crystal Palace in January was.

I ordered from Naccossees. They said we could get a 6" cake with no prior notice. To get a specially ordered cake it has to be an 8" or the castle cake. I ordered the castle cake and that is what I wanted anyway. They offered it in White, chocolate or Cheesecake. I hadn't heard that it was available in cheesecake but I still wanted chocolate.

My son and 3 friends arrive at Disney on 8/26; one of them turns 18 that day and they're eating dinner at Tony's. i've scheduled a surprise cake to be delivered to their table. :bday:

In order to get vanilla cake, chocolate icing, chocolate mousse & a Grumpy edible design, I had to buy a 10" cake (that feeds an army - up to 16 people). The 8" option was limited to choc. cake & icing; white cake and icing. The cost for the 10" cake is $40 for the cake and $8 for the drawing of grumpy. $48 seems really, really pricey. Does that sound right?

But now here's the real dilemma. Right after dinner there's EMH. I was positive I'd read somewhere on DIS that restaurants will store cakes while people go on rides. But I was told that the kids will have to leave WITH the cake.

So their choice is to either throw out 3/4 of the cake or go back to the room and miss EMH. Doesn't seem right. Does it? :confused3

The practical side of me says, just give up and get the 6" cake. But since it's a special birthday, I hate to get one that's frozen and not personalized.

Anyway figured I'd ask people here who might have other suggestions/experiences. If so, TIA.

I think the restaurant would hold the cake for them normally, except that Tony's is not open for EMH as far as I know. I suppose they could get a locker and put it in there, but I don't know how it would hold up in the heat of August.

I got an 8 inch at CRT for my 40th birthday celebration (in 2005 when there was no problem getting the 8 inch personalized). We decided to just leave it as we were about to go to MVMCP.

Lots of people end up sharing with the folks around them. I wish I thought of that!

We are leaving next week for our Sons 7th birthday trip. Do you know if they will do a cake for a late breakfast? Our last day we have a late breakfast @ Ohanas and would like to get a cake for him that morning. Just wondering.

Yes, not a problem. I placed an order for our CRT breakfast.

I accidentally posted this on another cake thread. Can an edible image be done on chocolate icing? I am hoping I don't have to choose white icing.
