Official Birthday/Anniversary Cake thread

Just a reminder to anyone who orders a cake.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE call and confirm your order.

I celebrated my FIRST ANNIVERSARY in WDW.
I had dreamed of a Disney wedding cake, you know the rolled fondant cake with the embossed Mickey's on it.
Having tea there was my only chance of getting one since I wasn't having dinner there and they don't deliver.

We will just say, they did not make my cake. Management was rude to me, and all I did was cry during tea. When they came out to tell me they lost everything I was crushed.

It did not ruin my vacation or my anniversary, I was just so let down and disappointed.

Linda, from the bakery, heard a bit about it days later, before I left. And I had called her. She had the order IN FRONT OF HER at that very moment and they did have it. No one can explain why it got screwed up. But it did.She was there on that Sunday and no one tried to contact her, call her or even page her.

I had called her to ensure that my credit card wasn't going to be charged since I had to give them the # to secure everything. I didn't want them to later find the cake and assume I never showed up and then charge me.

She is mad. I am mad and disappointed.

I have talked to all levels of management and people from all over have been calling about it.

I hope that no one EVER has to experience this.

So please call.

Now they are trying to right their wrong. I have told them I don't want anything out of them, I just don't want this to happen to anyone else.

I'm so sorry to hear this, its just horrible that this has happened to you, especially on your first anniversary. I have ordered a cake with Linda for the 8th Sept for my DD's 6th birthday, I know how excited we are about it. I will definitely be calling once I'm there to confirm the order now, I would be so upset if there was no cake waiting for us.
Thankyou for letting us know this

Who makes the cakes for the Hoop Dee Doo???

Wilderness Lodge In Room Dining and then they send them over there. If you check a few posts back. I posted where I had ordered a cake through them to pick up at Pioneer Hall. So that I could have it at our cabin. It was very good.

does some one have a photo of a Beauty and Beast cake? I would like one for our anniversary at 'Ohana but have only seen a pic of a Belle cake. tia:)

Has anyone ever had a cake delivered to Caribbean Beach Resort before?
I was wondering if CBR has this option available, and if not can our restaraunt will provide us a box to carry it in once we are ready to leave?

Check with the folks in the food court area. They do sell some of the $12 cakes there in boxes in the grab and go section.

ok so I read through alot of this thread...
Seems like there is conflicting reports of the GF bakery delivering or not delivering???

So, does the GF bakery deliver the cake to another restaurant or do they not? I have read that they do and then I read that someone said Linda at GF bakery said no way, no how. I am going to call on Monday to ask for sure but until then I wanted to ask here.

Please if someone can help I'd be so appreciative!!! I am tired of stressing out about my son's cake!

We spoke to Linda on Wed. and were assured that the GF bakery makes cakes only for GF restaurants and GF guests (in room). They do not deliver to other resorts and they do not offer pick up directly from the bakery, although a few people in this thread have been told in the past they can get a GF cake delivered for a steep fee - at least $75. Over the past year, the whole cake system has been re-vamped and that is why you might have seen older posts with variations of what is possible.

You certainly don't have to believe me, but, if you are not planning on dining at a GF restaurant, why don't you simply call the cake hotline listed on the front page and follow the prompts for the restaurant or resort where you would like a cake? Many of the customized cakes come from the BW or MK bakeries and they both turn out yummy works of edible art themselves. They've made it totally stress-free for most people.

I was at GF a couple of weeks ago and I got my sister a 8in cake and there was plenty of room in the fridge for it.

Sarah

Sarah, did you actually have the cake in it's box and it still fit? If so, that's great for us, as we will definitely have some left over. It will be a short trip but we can take the remains home to enjoy! I am so looking forward to the GF and also having something fabulous (hopefully) to snack on in the room!!

Has anyone recently ordered the Mickey Mouse cake, is it still $45? We want to order one to come out as a suprise dessert after our meal at Le Cellier, I've never ordered a cake before so do I call the cake hotline and tell them our dining info then confirm with the server when we get to the restaurant? Is there a list of available types of cake and fillings available for the Mickey cake, I know we can't get it personalised - does that include not being able to have happy birthday written on the plate it's brought out on?

One more question (sorry!) - should I leave it until the two weeks mark to order this? I like to get things done early so I can tick them off but if they might lose the request I'll wait!

We ordered the Mickey Mouse cake for my ds's 7th birthday in June. We also had one for my dd's 8th birthday in January. They were $45. My dd's we had at LTT and ds's at Yacht Club Galley. Both were really good but I liked the one from LTT and little better - it just tasted more "chocolatey".

I'm really enjoying reading thru this thread, bit by bit, and had a thought this morning which probably will help someone with a question re:quality of cakes. This past April, my DGD and I had lunch at the castle, and I was served the most delicious small chocolate cake with some sort of mousse or cream filling. If it was a product of the MK bakery and you order from them, you should not be disappointed...

We celebrated my daughters 5th birthday at Chef Mickey's last Monday (Aug 6th). Her name is Isabella, but we all call her Belle, so of course I wanted to get her a Princess Belle cake. Just wanted to share our special cake that I ordered from the Contemporary.

How much was this if you don't mind me asking?

Does anyone have an opinon about the cakes from the GF bakery vs. the ones from the Boardwalk bakery?

If I'm not able to have a specially made cake delivered to my room at CBR, what are my other options? I really want a cake for my son's Bday, but because of his autism, planning a on big party at one of the dine in restaraunts is not a good idea. So, what else can I do?

Did you call the cake hotline to check to see if it's possible yet?

thanks for the info Jennifer, I appreciate it. I called the Poly bakery 2 weeks ago and they only have standard cake sizes, and the smaller non-personalized cake. And I was told only had certain flavors for the cake and icing. I was left with the impression that the Poly was *not* able to do something custom because when I asked if they had Pirate cakes or a pirate theme cake she said "no we don't' have anything like that." Now having something and doing something I know are different but I would have thought if they *did* do custom work then she would have told me but maybe I just need to call back and ask again.

I am going to call the GF today and the BW & Poly again today.

Sounds like you are getting the same Poly ray of sunshine we've been talking to. :rolleyes1 I thought the fillings options were perfectly adequate but have some other issues with the theme too.

Not sure if it helps you, but I think we've decided to make an ADR at Citrico's for lunch just in order to get a GF cake. Citricos is not normally open for lunch - it's just for free dining and not many know about it so an ADR is much easier to score at this late date. I honestly wouldn't bother calling GF unless you plan to dine there ... I wouldn't have myself if I wasn't under the impression that I might be able to pick up a cake. I am afraid poor Linda as a result of this thread is being swamped with requests she can't fulfill, kwim?

We had a BW Bakery cake last year that was absolutely fantastic so I wanted to plug that option too. :-) Good luck!

jenjersnap, that comment you made about the GF bakery being swamped with cake requests being due to the discussion on this thread...that thought has occured to me, and I only just found the thread last week. FYI, just reading here makes me want to order!!!

Yeah that was my thinking too and I just got off the phone w/ reservations line and booked a Narcoosees (sp?) for the night of my son's 3rd b-day so I can get the cake I want with no questions. I really wanted 1900 Park Fare because at least he would have a character meal with his cake, but they were full so I have to keep trying. I am now going to call the bakeries. I just know that the GF can make the really creative cakes, I am just not sure if the BW or th MK bakeries can and then get it to where we want it... I want something really specific that would take a pastry chef I believe to recreate. :wizard:
