Who would I have a better chance of getting one of those Mini Wedding cakes from? The GF or the Boardwak Bakery....

Considereing dinner at Narcoossee's or the Flying Fish...

(on a note i was married at the YC, so I would assume that perhaps our yummy wedding cake came from the boarwalk bakery?)

My understanding is that the mini wedding cakes with the castle only comes from the GF. Since we are going to Narcossees I jumped at the chance to order it.

Sounds great - which restaurant/resort did you order this from? DD4's 5th bday will be during our vacation and I want to order her a cake w/a princess on it. Everyday she changes her mind about which princess is her favorite:rotfl2: so maybe if I could get more then one that would be great. Shes having lunch at the castle so I'll probably order one from there but have also thought about just getting one through in room dining. Thanks for any info.

We are dining at Tony's in MK for dinner. I called the cake hotline last night and left a message and they returned my call. The number I called was given to me by WDW dining. It is 407-827-2253. Good Luck! The CM was very pleasant and helpful.

I accidentally posted this on another cake thread. Can an edible image be done on chocolate icing? I am hoping I don't have to choose white icing.

I just ordered my daughter's cake with chocolate icing and an edible image. The CM assured me the image would show up fine on the chocolate icing.

This is so frustrating. My DH finally got hold of Linda from the GF today and she told him categorically and emphatically that they do NOT allow anyone to pick up cakes from the GF - you must have an ADR at a GF restaurant or be a GF guest who gets it delivered in-room.

Why would she tell one person one thing and something else to another? I know my DH is mild-mannered and the furthest thing from demanding so there wasn't an attitude problem that would make her shoot him down. I guess we are undeserving of the pixie dust. DH felt like he almost didn't ask questions phrased in the way that would get help, if that makes sense. Why does it have to be some kind of game to get decent, consistent customer service?

You know, this freakin' anniversary cake is the one of the few things I felt like I could control about this vacation ...

I can't control how hot I am going to be
I can't control our restaurant waits during free dining madness
I can't control that the parks might be more crowded than I hoped
I can't control how these things are going to affect my kids' moods

Add the $50 cake to the things I can't control, I guess.

I told DH to do what he wants in terms of the cake. I am over it. Disney has enough of my money.

Sorry for the vent.

We are leaving next week for our Sons 7th birthday trip. Do you know if they will do a cake for a late breakfast? Our last day we have a late breakfast @ Ohanas and would like to get a cake for him that morning. Just wondering.

Yes, I have ordered a cake for the character breakfast at the GF cafe without any problems :thumbsup2:

So sorry to hear that and feel free to vent away!

I haven't heard of anyone being able to do a pick up at GF for well over a year though. Was there a post here where they said that Linda said they could pick up their cake from the GF and take it away?

I did see someone (Lilo'smom post #1808) who said Linda told her the GF cannot deliver to other resorts and then this poster went on to say "do I order a cake from the GF and go and pick it up" but she never said that Linda said she could do that. Maybe she didn't actually ask Linda if that was possible and maybe she was just assuming.

Here is that post for anyone interested: http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=20272976&postcount=1808

So this all could be a misunderstanding between you and Lilo'smom. Unless of course I missed a follow up post from Lilo'smom confirming that Linda did, in fact, say she could pick up a cake at the GF to eat elsewhere, which could very well be possible!

Again, I am very sorry for your disappointment and frustration.

Thanks, Beattyfamily, it was Lilo'smom's original post that got me thinking about it in the first place. I don't think she posted to my follow-up question confirming it so you are totally correct that probably Lilo'smom assumed that GF cakes could be picked up and I assumed incorrectly that she had confirmation of it.

I knew that GF generally has not allowed pick ups anymore but it does seem like there have been a few other occasions sprinkled in this thread fairly recently.

Back to dealing with the Poly, I guess (making DH do it though!). The ironic thing is that we just want to replicate our cake from last year at the BC and the Poly now says they won't ... offered to send pics even to use as a guide. :-)

My sister's cake had chocolate frosting and an edible image. I'll post the pic again so you can see that the image turns out really nice. I love the colors on hers. I thought it was so colorful and vibrant. This is from the Crystal Palace.

What cake is it you want to replicate?
Why won't the Poly do it?
We considered ordering a cake from the Poly for Ohana but I am nervous as to what they will do for us. ANYthing at all besides a "normal" cake?

My birthday cake from last year is 10c on the first page. The top of it was ganache but there was a layer of butter cream under it ... it was sinfully good. The Poly won't do ganache, buttercream only. It's a really small thing, I know, but I would think that they had the ability to do it.

The first time I called, the person I spoke with at the Poly was fabulous. Very helpful, told me they were game for anything, etc., etc. I told her what we wanted as far as cake, filling, and topping - yes, no problem at all. Just call back the week before we wanted it and give explicit instructions

DH and I had an idea for a theme on the cake - a tropical Poly kind of thing - but wanted to ask about it so I called back and got a CM who wasn't as enthusiastic. They could throw a few flowers on it, she said. No ganache. They don't do ganache ever. LOL

I hoped to get the first person back on the phone so made DH call again. Same unfriendly lady. I think she is the new cake person.

I do not think getting a theme of your choice will be a problem, especially if you want one of the characters. They offered all the various filling options as long as your ordered a larger cake. It's just our small problem they won't address. Please don't be afraid to order a cake based on my experience!

Thanks for the response!
We were thinking of something with Stitch...maybe Pirate Stitch. I have never heard of or seen anyome doing Stitch, though.

BTW, I have 3 boys (Pirates in training as you call them) also!

ETA--just checked your cake and that is one of the cakes we considered ordering!! WHY won't they do it ?! It does look sooooo good!
Van this cake be picked up at Boardwalk Bakery? We are eating near Beach Club...maybe we could pick it up if they would make it (if we decided not to do the Poly)

I've seen the cakes with the ganache on top, and they do look lovely.

I'm pretty sure the Boardwalk bakery would do one for you. So you could do one of two things:
1. go the Boardwalk bakery upon arrival, and they can have it ready for you to pick up in 48 hours, or on the day of your choosing if it is later than 48 hours.

2. Eat at a Boardwalk restaurant... even if it is for breakfast, and have the cake delivered to the restaurant. That way you could order it before you leave. Just ask them to keep the cake in the box, as you are too full and will eat it later. (Actually you could also do this option at the GF too.... you could either go for tea in the afternoon or have breakfast or lunch at the cafe)

Good luck and enjoy your trip!

I have been reading and drooling over this thread for some time now, and I have decided to order a cake to be delivered to our room at the Poly on our first night. I wanted it personalized, possibly with an edible image but I am open for other ideas. Do you have to get the 10" cake or can the 8" cake be customized also?? Does anyone have any experience with the Poly on this?

Finally got the pictures on the computer of my DD5's Aurora cake that we had last week at Narcoosees. It was very tasty, and just too pretty. My daughter was thrilled.

It was chocolate with chocolate mousse filling and a tinted fondant over it. Those are white chocolate covered truffles on top.

8 inch can be customized. Your choice of fillings might be limited to chocolate or vanilla but the top can be personalized with a name, made with a theme, etc.

Oh Disney Planner Mama, Wow! Since I am the only princess in my family, someday I want that cake for myself!!!

Cheerbop, BW Bakery makes all the BC cakes too. You can arrange to have it at the BC/YC restaurant where you'll be eating.

We tried to make an ADR at a GF restaurant without success. With the Cafe serving the 1900PF meals, availability is very tight there.

I am going to the tea by myself, but not until the day before we leave and we want to be able to munch on cake during the week. I can't switch around without screwing up other ADRs.

We've opted not to hang at the BW this trip ... wish I could add a few days, LOL. Thanks for your great ideas though!

DisneyPlannerMama: that cake is gorgeous. Too bad we're going to be at Narcoossee for hubby's bday. Somehow I don't think he'd appreciate an Aurora cake.

The food was amazing at Narcoosee's -- I think you'll have a great time even without the Aurora cake (actually the normal menu desserts looked really good I was sort of regretting I didn't get to have one of those!)
