From USA Today (http://www.usatoday.com/life/people/2005-03-31-idol-arrest_x.htm):

Arrest won't cost 'Idol' finalist
From staff reports

A previous arrest won't cost American Idol finalist Scott Savol his chance to continue in the hit Fox singing competition. Thesmokinggun.com Web site Thursday posted a Shaker Heights, Ohio, police report citing Savol's arrest following a 2001 altercation with the mother of his then-infant son.

Savol, 28, one of nine remaining Idol finalists, had previously told Idol producers of the misdemeanor disorderly conduct conviction that resulted from the incident.

According to a statement issued by Fox and Idol producers Thursday night: "Scott Savol was forthcoming to the American Idol producers and the network regarding his misdemeanor.

After reviewing the facts, in which the charges were reduced to disorderly conduct, we felt that considering Scott's honesty and his remorse, the situation did not warrant his disqualification."

Looks like Scott's staying.

Well if he stays I sure hope no one plans on voting for him!! He has no right being there because anyone who acts that way is no American Idol.

Count me in on the 40 somethings that love Constantine, his look, his hair and his singing!

Count me in on those who love Anwar... regardless of his preferences or who he looks like.

I don't think that Scott should be eliminated for a past mistake.... she probably provoked him. I know women who are far worse than men, and then stand there and swear the guy did something to them, and even if he didn't, they take the women's word for it anyway.

I don't think that Jessica should have been voted off. It was Anthony's turn to leave.

And.... the only time I was really impressed with Fantasia was when she sang Summertime... but I certainly don't begrudge her the title of American Idol. She was one of the best they had last season.

They've been playing the heck out of Fantasia on Memphis radio...That horrible, horrible "BabyMama" song makes me cringe, but "Truth Is" is pretty good.

Kelly Clarkson gets a lot of play on our "Hot Top 40" station, and I LOVE her new album...(something I never thought I would say.)

Ruben gets played a lot on the R & B stations as well...although not as much as he did.

I don't listen to the kind of stations that would play Clay.

Are you serious? Blaming the victim. :guilty: Scott always gave me the creeps. Sorry. I can't see how anyone could support Scott as "American Idol" now. Domestic violence is sick. I don't care how long ago it happened. That's no role model. Let him get his record deal on his own. The man should not be given any title with "Idol" in it.

IF she was provoking him he should have been man enough and turned and walked out the door!!
People make people angry all the time....that doesn't mean we abuse them!!

there is no way this man should be an American Idol :sad2:
I say Scott should be gone!!

If it only happened ONCE, I can't see tossing him out for that. I could see someone young losing control once and it's not like he actually beat her up or anything.

I admit that I don't vote for him so I really don't care one way or the other. If I did, I don't know how I'd feel.

I like Scott's voice but I'm not sure I can get past this and still see him in the same light. Violence is violence, no matter when it happened or who provoked who. My feelings have always been a real man walks away and keeps his temper under control.

From the report, it looks like he threw the phone at her, it hit her in the chest and BROKE. That's a pretty hard throw, if you ask me. Would you tolerate that kind of behavior from your s/o?

Anyone else remember the other Idol who was kicked out because of being arrested in the past? I think it was season 2 and he had hair like Nadia?

I don't remember the charges but it was enough to get him kicked off.

He was also the one who didn't practice during tryouts and stayed out all night dancing instead of practicing. Remember him?

Well, if he had to leave for a prior conviction, then I think Scott should too.

No. But I also hate for someone to pay forever for what may have been a one time thing.

I'm torn to be honest.

Dude.. I know there are women that use the abuse card but Scott plead guilty. And there was enough evidence to extend the restraining order against him. Why would he cop to any abuse charge if she was making it up?

This is the first season I have ever watched AI but don't I remember hearing in the past about a contestant being kicked out because they were in some fetish movie.. a foot fetish movie? While that is just.. weird, if they kick someone out for that and leave someone convicted of domestic violence.. that just doesn't sit well with me.

The foot fetish movie was actually one of the finalists of the first season of Joe Millionaire. The AI contestant was removed for a domestic incident against his sister.

While I'm not sure he now (or ever has) fit the bill of "American Idol", regardless of whether or not they boot him out, if the public likes him he will succeed.

Look at Eminem.

Yes, that's who I was referring to! Thanks!

Oops! All these reality shows are starting to run together in my mind. I didn't watch Joe Millionaire either so I'll just shut up now..lol  :rolleyes1

That's right. That contestant (I think his name was Corey), didn't tell the producers about his problem. AI doesn't want any surprises. Scott told them about his past problems, so I guess it makes it OK in their eyes. I certainly would not cast a vote for "American Idol" to someone who pleaded guilty to domestic violence. This was bound to come out. I would have had more respect for him if he talked about this from the beginning. It would have maybe meant something if he announced that he made these problems in the past and he was now an advocate against domestic violence or something. I'm sure ,if pressed, it is what he will say now. He had no problems talking about how horrible his father was for not believing in him.

Well how about Frenchie who was "excused" from AI because she was in some topless pictures? Season1?? Can't remember
