Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

I'm a brand new runner (well run/walker) that really wants to run the PHM in 2015. I have been doing the run/walk thing for about 3 weeks now and feeling a little discouraged today about being ready in 10 months. I am basically starting from overweight non-exerciser. A friend and I are doing it together and keeping each other accountable for working out. We are planning on running a 5K at the end of June to see where we are with fitness and training level. If all goes well then a 10k in the fall.

Was just wondering if any of you who have run PHM in the past started as a beginner runner. Really hoping to get some encouragement from others who "have been there, done that". I know that we can scale back and aim for the 10K instead of the half, but I really want to do the half. Just trying to set some big goals. Like the saying says, " If your dream doesn't scare you, you aren't dreaming big enough.".

You can do it!! Remember a lot of people walk the entire 13.1! Follow the Galloway plan - train for a 10k then train for the 13.1. The people on this thread will be very supportive.

I'm here to help if you need motivation! I would also look into doing yoga once a week! The stress of not being ready and sore will go away a lot quicker! Also - stretch, stretch, and stretch after you run!

You'll be a rockin' princess next February! princess:

Yay! Congrats on choosing to runDisney!

This is my first jump into the runDisney ball pit but I heard ALL Disney resorts are host resorts!

I would also like to know - are there discounts or anything on hotels when you sign up? :scratchin

Thanks! And congrats to you as well!

It looks like there used to be ticket discounts and hotel discounts, for a select group of the hotels (I could be wrong about that). . . but I was talking with a TA last week and asked her if she knew about the discounts usually offered with runDisney events and she said they would no longer be offered?? :confused3 Just that the "host" resorts would be the ones that transportation would be available to/from the running events.

Was hoping to find out if this is indeed the case, as it will affect the budget for the weekend.

We may have to wait until July once registration opens up to know for sure, though!

Good luck with your training!

As a PP mentioned, I like the idea of being accountable, so today I did 10.71 miles. That includes a five minute walk warm up, .27 miles, and a cool down walk. I'm training for a half in June. At that point, I'll have a few times to choose from for submission. DD and I plan to do a 10k, so she will have a time to submit. We are trying to avoid the last corral, too.

As far as I know, there were no discounts of any kind. I think they don't need to offer them. That said, there are discounted tickets offered to ToT participants and their parties.

Yea, I'm probably going to stay off-site now. I hear it's better! You can park for free I hear and it's a shorter distance to the starting line and finish line.

Anyone else stay off-site? Do you stay near Epcot?

I have some good days and some bad days :sad2:
But everytime I go out I tell myself that a month ago I was not doing this at all!!! So be patient, results will come :grouphug::cheer2::cheer2:

I am jumping into the Glass Slipper Challenge this year. Not a runner until just recently. I've been using the Couch to 5k app and even with only being 2 weeks in I feel more comfortable with the running side of things. I've totally surprised myself by actually sticking with it this far. I think after I finish the 5k training I'll switch to the Galloway method in prep for GSC.

Hi everyone! So excited to be joining this thread. Will be running the1/2 next feb with 2 girlfriends. They are runners..... I am not! Lol. I am in decent shape but not for running. More Pilates/dance. Lol. I plan on doing a 10k this fall to be able to submit a time. Thanks! :-)

Also, I saw someone posted a link to tips about the 1/2 and now I can't find it. Can anyone repost that. Thanks!

Welcome to the new Princesses!! Glad you found us. Remember to those who are new, Disney races tend to sell out fast so make sure you are registering as soon as possible. I also recommend finding a 10K to run. This year I lucked out and got corral M without a submitted time, but next year I might not be so lucky.

Hi!! When registration opens on the 15th will I be able to register for me and my 2 friends or do they have to register separately? Thanks so much!

I registered myself, DH and all the kids for the 5K together. Not sure if you can sign other people up for the bigger races though. I'd probably email someone from RunDisney to get an answer.

I'm two weeks into C25K too!!! :cool1:

Wooo...GSC 2015 here we come!

Planning for my costume for 2015, does anyone have a picture of what was the t-shirt for the 5k event???

Thanks!!!!

Here is the 2014 shirt. Not sure if the design changes or not, but I think shirt colors change every year.

I am a fairly new long distance runner. I have done a few 5Ks for several years but PHM was my first 10K and 1/2.
Are you planning on doing run/walk intervals or planning to run the whole thing?

If you are doing the run/walk then:
Official Galloway training will start in July for the Glass Slipper Challenge (and probably the 1/2).
I started now with the 5K training before moving on to the 1/2 training. He also has a 10k app.

If you are planning on running the whole thing then I would start with C25K, then move on to bridge to 10k. I personally like the BlueFin app. They do not have a 1/2 app though.

I did the PHM along with both the 5 and 10ks this year. I'm 64 and started running last May. I'm not even a little bit athletic. In fact, my podiatrist told my I "can't run-- you have TERRIBLE feet." He's right, I do, but I can still run!

I've lost about 50 pounds over the last 18 months, more than half before I started running. If I can do it, so can you! I'm very slow and finished in 3 hours, 34 minutes. I started in the last corral and never once saw the Balloon ladies. I went down by myself, had no one to cheer me on or spend time with and had an absolute blast from start to finish. Well, maybe not the portapotties at the finish lol.

Hoping to move up a few corrals this year and run a little faster. Even though I did all three this year, I didn't get the GSC medal because I signed up for all three separately. Next year I will! Already reserved my room and can't wait-- it was SOOO much fun, even with the heat and humidity.

That just made me even more inspired to do this! You are awesome apple orchard !

I'm checking back in after being out of town. Nothing is posted on the runDisney website, as far as pricing. Today I did a one minute interval, each, of run, jog, speed and walk, repeat. My total mileage was 4.7, I think. Maybe 4.9.:confused3 Tomorrow will be my day off from running. I'll do some other form of cardio and strength training. I run three days a week. I take one day off, a week, from working out. If I run more than three days a week, I start to hate running and the benefit of extra runs, creates over training. I have good days and bad days, just like everyone. I say, "It's a love hate relationship with running". I love that it's a hard workout, but I don't enjoy running. Honestly, what keeps me going is the fear of starting over.

Just wanted to pop in and say hi.

My birthday weekend is PHM 2015 weekend, so I decided to run.
I have my first ever 5K on May 10th and I'm scared to death.

We have our family vacation to WDW in August, and we're upgrading to APs for the February trip.

Three words to describe me right now? Excited, scared, determined.

Subscribing to the thread to keep up with everyone :)

Thanks everyone for the support. I'm determined to do this. Quitting is not an option. Like a pp The PHM falls during my birthday week. So, this is a gift to myself.

Right now I'm doing run/walk intervals and hoping that with time I will get faster and have more endurance. I have had some knee pain so I took 3 days off to rest my knees. Just finished todays workout. Hopefully my knee won't start bothering me later.

Thanks again ladies for the encouragement. I will keep checking in. It is helpful to hear about everyone's experiences.:)
