Official all things Princess Half Weekend 2015 thread! DOoneY and offical mErcH on DisneyParksBLOg

Tammie, I'll probably follow Jeff Galloway's training advice on the runDisney website. I've been running (if you can call it that) for 6 months. I'm in my 50's and overweight and it's very hard for me. But, I've lost 42 pounds in the past 6 months. Hope to lose at least 20-30 more pounds before the PHM. Can't wait!!

Yep a Galloway girl! I am so happy that I found his method because it makes this ALMOST 50 overweight girl successful! When I trained for ToT I used his 5K app, 10K app and started on the 1/2 app! It gives a really good training program, I have pretty much outgrown the apps...but I use them for setting what my distance should be for each run. I had not ran since ToT really and started using the 5K program a few weeks ago...then going to start 10K app and so on again!

Congrats on the weight loss! I am nearly 20 pounds since January 1st...only 30 more to go! UGH! You can do it!

I booked DVC which opens at 11 months to the date of checkin for your home resorts. But I believe that although you can't book WDW hotels online yet, you can call and book. But you have to reserve rack rate, and make your deposit based on that. But, you can convert that to any announced deals when they are available. It's just a way for someone who really wants a specific hotel or even category of room at a hotel to ensure they have what they want. I could be getting details wrong, but this is my recollection from it being discussed last year on the 2014 PHM threads.

That's correct....I booked the rooms and will call back when the packages are out and have it adjusted. I just wanted to make sure I got my rooms.;)

Does anyone know if Disney Visa cardholders get a jump on race registration? I have heard both....that there is no early bird advantage, and others in the know talking about a link on the rewards page on the website. Thanks!

There hasn't been an early reg for Disney Visa the past few registrations, but there has been a discount once regular reg opens.

Hi-ya, princess runners! princess:

2015 will be my FIRST runDisney race and my first half marathon!! (maybe the GSC? I'm not sure if I can do it! or should I do the half and 5k? suggestions??)

I started C25K yesterday!! I'm 25 and ran track for 8+ years in high school and college but I have been injured (back and hip) and I still have some aches and pains. I haven't been running at all - probably since last summer...so I'm breathing heavy going up stairs and after a few minutes of jogging.

I was a sprinter, hurdler, and triple jumper (I swear anything more than a lap was exhausting haha) but I woke up a few weeks ago and said to myself, "I NEED TO RUN DISTANCE!" then watched Frozen for some motivation :rotfl:

I did The Color Run 3 times over the past 3 years but that's it. I'm going to do the C25K and maybe a 5K before next year's PHM.

I'm glad I found this thread and any tips would help! Wooo!

I'm in!

I'm mid-40s, used to run a lot, but life got in the way. I've been trying to get back to it for the past few years. Figure what better than Disney to keep me motivated?!

Not yet sure if I'll do the half, the 10k or both. We'll see how training goes between now and July 15.

Will likely be a solo trip. Going with kids end of September and none of my friends run. The upside is I'll be able to tour the parks and shop at my own pace! :)

Looking forward to getting to know you ladies.

Kelly

My college aged twins are going to run with me! (We are only taking the littlest two this fall.). So excited for a mom/daughter trip! :thumbsup2

Welcome to the new Princesses!!
Glad you found us.

Remember to those who are new, Disney races tend to sell out fast so make sure you are registering as soon as possible.
I also recommend finding a 10K to run. This year I lucked out and got corral M without a submitted time, but next year I might not be so lucky.

What are the best corrals? and when is the cut off date usually to submit an updated 10k time aka when was it for this past race? I have no idea what I'm going to put down when I sign up!! :scared:

i think you want to be J or up -- just for breathing room. Last year the cutoff for submitting a time was Dec 1. You don't have to put anything when you sign up unless you have it. You can email track shack later.

Just so I understand... for the 10K, I don't have to submit a timed race, correct? Or I do to be placed in the correct corral? Or is this just for the half?

Also, can anyone give me the cost of the 2014 10K? half? GSC? Just for planning... I know it will likely be higher this year.

Thanks!

you don't need to submit a time unless you are aimin to move up in corrals. It's a LOT of people so you may want to.

You can check the price for Disneyland half -- and expect it to be around there. Think the GSC was 250$?

I had to defer 2014 to 2015 - GSC is $280. It was $270 in 2014, so an increase of $10.

I THINK the 10k was around $90-95 but don't quote me on that!

So glad to find this thread!

Have been hoping to do a runDisney race for awhile now and am signing up for the PHM weekend when it opens this summer.

NOT a runner by any stretch of the imagination, but planning on training for the 5K and maybe aiming for the 10K. DD6 loves to run so I thought I'd sign her up for the kids' race.

Should be a fun weekend away for me, DD6 and DD4 - and my mom is going to go with us to help with the girls while I run (walk really, really fast??). Hoping the training goes well and I can complete this! :cool1:

Anyone have any info on the host resorts and if discounts are offered? If so, what those are like?

Yay! Congrats on choosing to runDisney!

This is my first jump into the runDisney ball pit but I heard ALL Disney resorts are host resorts!

I would also like to know - are there discounts or anything on hotels when you sign up? :scratchin

I'm a brand new runner (well run/walker) that really wants to run the PHM in 2015. I have been doing the run/walk thing for about 3 weeks now and feeling a little discouraged today about being ready in 10 months. I am basically starting from overweight non-exerciser. A friend and I are doing it together and keeping each other accountable for working out. We are planning on running a 5K at the end of June to see where we are with fitness and training level. If all goes well then a 10k in the fall.

Was just wondering if any of you who have run PHM in the past started as a beginner runner. Really hoping to get some encouragement from others who "have been there, done that". I know that we can scale back and aim for the 10K instead of the half, but I really want to do the half. Just trying to set some big goals. Like the saying says, " If your dream doesn't scare you, you aren't dreaming big enough.".

I haven't given up on this thread, not much is being updated on the runDisney website. I check to see if prices are posted daily. My DD and I are in for the race. My three sisters may join us, as well.
