Official 2016 - Avengers Super Heroes Half Marathon Weekend

It's getting super real now...yay!

I crafted my shoe bows and a bow to attach to my headband this weekend. Ran into a bit of difficulty finding the glue gun, which made it harder. After buying one, I can now report the house is very glittery. Glitter Tulle is very...sparkly. The first test of the headband proved to be a problem, the Captain America shield fell right off. More glue! :rotfl:

Try super glue/Gorilla glue? The star on my hairbow fell off (I think USPS roughly handled the box it was in on the way to my house) so I have to glue it back on. It looked like the Etsy seller used hot glue so I'm trying Gorilla glue now to see if it will hold.

Yes, Glitter Tulle is very glittery. And glitter will never go away. Trust me. :rotfl2:pixiedust:

Looks like the 10K is nearly identical to the Disneyland 10K from earlier this year.

For those running the 10K, make sure to bring some extra water with you. We only had two water stations and it was nearly at the 5K mark for the DL10K.

Also any meds you think you may need - bandaids, aspirin, vaseline, BioFreeze, you name it. The only med table was at Mile 5.5 during the Disneyland 10K this year.

Oh, I may have to try another type of glue. So far they seem to be holding - I keep walking by and shaking them randomly/violently. Ha!

And so true on the glitter. :rotfl:

So.. my bib number is in "F" for challenge and "G" for Half, does that mean I'm in F for 10k and G for half? or F for both races?

I found my bib # for the 10K, but the runDisney site doesn't seem to have links for the 10K corral assignments? Unless I'm just missing them? Did anyone else find 10K assignments?

We do not get a corral list for the 10K, but we can use our bib numbers and estimate off last year and other races. Hubs and I are 30500 and 30505 respectively (who are the four people in between us!?) - since we put ourselves in the 9-10 minute mile group, we're assuming we're probably in B or C. For Tinkerbell we were in D with the 12 minute mile people. Obviously if you said 14-16 minute mile you'd be in the back.

At this point we get to be surprised and wait for bib pick up! :D

Two letters means you have two different corrals - F for the 10K and G for the half. (however they're listed on the bib - ie: F/G - is how you'll know. First letter, first race. Second letter, second race)

EDIT: Never mind, just found it. It's been a long work day...

Okay, so, how do I find my bib number using this new system? I claimed my runner profile but can't find my bib number. Not finding the link for the waiver

It can be a bit confusing but your bib number can't be found in BOTH the Challenge and Half Marathon corral assignments posted on the runDisney website.

If you are doing the Challenge, your bib number will be in the 20,000 range -- 20,001 to 24,928. The corral assignment listed for the Challenge indicates only the corral you will be in for the half marathon, not the 10k. So if you are in "F" for the "Challenge," that's the corral you'll be in for the half. You may be in the same corral for the 10k, a corral higher or a corral lower. The second "letter" can be found on your bib when you pick it up. As explained above, F/G would mean F for the 10k, G for the half. G/G would be G for both races while G/H would represent G for the 10k, H for the half.

If you are not running the Challenge but the half marathon alone, your bib number will be anywhere from 1 to 5,108 according to the corral assignment PDF. That is a separate list and should be ignored for the most part by those doing the challenge as the numbers will not pertain to you. Those running the half will have just one letter on their bib that corresponds to the chart.

By adding the number of bibs assigned in each individual corral on both charts, you can see how large that particular corral will be for the half marathon. Example: Corral A has 294 half-only runners and 453 runners doing the challenge for a total of 747 runners starting in that corral. Corral B has 347 half-only runners and 444 challenge participants for a total of 791. And so on ...

As also mentioned above, they don't typically per-announce the 10k or 5k corrals. Though you can find your corral number via your waiver, you won't know your corral letter until you pick up your bib.

I am corral E and my daughter is in F, she will most likely pass me anyway.

The course map really needs pictures! Not from the area, it is hard for me to picture. Can someone clarify? It looks like we start at the hotel, run into Disneyland, then through DCA, then to the stadium, around or through the stadium and then back to the hotel without going back into the park.

It looks like sunrise is 6:22, will pictures inside the park turn out? Anyone with experience?

We start by the Disneyland Hotel, go past the Grand Californian, enter DCA backstage behind Toy Story mania, come out in between Pacific Wharf and Carsland, go through Carsland (Which is where the sun rose last time I ran through DCA---great photo op) Mile one puts us near the Tower of Terror. Then up to and across Hollywood Blvd, passing Carthay Circle, a lap around the lagoon and Mickey's Fun Wheel of Death, past Soarin' & Starbucks, out the DCA Main Street, though the entrance plaza, across the Esplanade and into Disneyland.
Then the journey out to the stadium, usually returning through it!
Before the finish line, we will run backstage at DCA, but since the park may be open by that time (it will be for me) we will only be backstage.

I am a bit late to the party.

My husband and I are doing the 5K but he is also doing the 10K. I have never been a spectator before. Does anyone have information on where I can wait and greet him at the end, and how far I can go to "see him off" at the beginning? I was thinking I'd like to be both in the Esplanade while they run from one park to the next (at least I HOPE they do this... I could be wrong) and also at or near the finish line.

Suggestions?

Thank you!

@ten6mom - you can definitely wait in the esplanade with a sign and noise maker to cheer him (and us other runners!) on. You can then head back to the family reunion area at the finish line. I believe this is in the LILO parking lot. Find a designated spot to meet by and you'll have an idea of when he finishes because you can track him. It may take 5 mins to go from the finish line to meet you because it's a looooong walk.

@CourteneyBeth For IG challenge this year I submitted 2:13:22 HM POT and am in C (The corral chart says C is <2:20). If you submit a 10k POT, you can plug it into a calculator such as Macmillan to see how it approximately translates to a HM time.

The Corral chart says B is <2:10 this year so I missed B by 3:22. The problem is that the corral assigned depends on how speedy other participants' POT's are. If I had run Avengers last year with the same time submission I would have been in corral B, which, according to last year's Corral chart, was <2:34. It also depends on the number registered and the number of corrals they have. Last year they had A-G, this year A-J, so we are spread out a bit more.

This year E is <2:43 and F is <2:45, so apparently, there were a lot of people who submitted POT's that were in that range! According to Macmillan, a 2:43 HM translates to a 1:13:07 10K and 2:45 to a 1:14:01 10K, so the difference in E and F might be less than a minute in submitted 10k times. So much depends on the other runners' times and the way corrals are set up!

So my point is -- Do the best YOU can do and have fun! I'll see you there in 2 weeks. I'll be the one in running shoes!

@courtneybeth , thank you... now to discover which parking lot is Lilo. I have run the 5K's before so I know where we end up... although getting there in a way other than being directed to it (right after they give you the post race snack) might be difficult. Is that the lot you're talking about? Non runners can go there?
