Placeholder discount increase?

Someone on Reddit posted that their already booked cruise price went down dramatically and someone else replied that DCL increased the placeholder discount and made it retroactive. Has anyone else heard this? If it’s true, does it only apply to certain sailings?

Maybe reword this title? I was under the impression that the amount that you pay for the placeholder increased and not the discount that you received possibly being greater than 10%

There are some sailings this year that give a higher discount for placeholders, including some Alaskan sailings on the Magic.

Reportedly there are some sailings in which DCL has done a price adjustment (lowered). The post I saw didn't know why.

But, I don't think that's related to the placeholder. The discount is a set percentage amount, usually 10% but as PP noted is higher for some sailings. But the percentage wouldn't change after someone has booked.

The price for my booked cruise went down dramatically too. But that's because they started offering GT rates on it. Doesn't mean I get a refund or price adjustment though. If this is a different situation, first I've heard of it.

IIRC they changed this after the last bulk batch of heavier discounted releases. They added a whole bunch more today as I’ve been stalking the page to see if my cruise would drop (it didn’t) but I think last time it applied to everyone who booked a cruise with a placeholder even if it was before they added the additional discount, and Disney did the price adjustment automatically.

Can confirm that the new batch of dates are having the discount automatically applied. We paid in full (no reason to hang on to gift cards) and are getting a refund!

Love it! So unlike the current climate to refund cash to the customer. It's nice to see DCL doing something to instate goodwill.

I think it's strategic, too. My last cruise there were a bunch of folks who cancelled their bookings and went GTY once those rates became available. Depending on the timing of when the GTYs dropped, people were able to just lose their (reduced) placeholder deposit and save money overall with GTYs. If they make the placeholder discount more compelling, then they'll have less of that cancel/rebook once GTYs hit the scene.
