Well, we did 11 today. I was not feeling it, at all. Just kept pushing. Somebody on here said, "It will pay off in two weeks." I kept saying that in my head, over and over. Holy stomach/intestine cramps, batman. Started right after stopping/cool down at end. Drank plenty of fluids yesterday/today. Had to of been something I ate. I have GOT to figure out race day nutrition, so I'm not feeling this way again. Down for the count for the rest of the day. As much as I'd like to do the after party, I'm doubting that I'll go. I'm pretty whipped after these last long runs and in no frame of mind to go "walk around for a while." Oh well, at least I'm going to cross the finish line and have that medal around my neck. :)

This is what I dread too. Im doing 11 tomorrow. The last time I did 11 was last month and I felt sick for 3 days. Someone suggested I was maybe dehydrated so I'm trying to do better at pre hydrating and since I'll be on the treadmill I'm going to try to stay better hydrated. If I need more than the water breaks allow, I'm going to go find a fuel belt with water bottles. I think last timeit might have been something I ate so IGeV been trying to fine tune that for the last two weeks but I'm still nervous.

I have found that a nice cool beer has helped after a run sometimes. Not the healthiest of habits but It works!

For those fighting colds- I am still getting over mine. The good thing is that I was able to start running again pretty normally after the first part of symptoms subsided.

Few things that may help - chocolate milk seems to be a good recovery drink for me, coats my stomach and just makes me feel overall better. Not a ton, just 8-10oz. Also, I switched from ibuprofen to Tylenol before/after running instead of Ibuprofen. I know, I've read all along its bad to use during running, so I switched and its helped. Everyone has their food/stomach issues, I think it's part of the running challenge.

Did my 13.1 today! woohoo!! So glad to have that done. Unfortunately the city decided to shut down all the outdoor drinking fountains & public bathrooms for the winter. Wish I had known that. I had to make a stop at the most posh hotel in town to refill my water bottle from a fountain. I got some odd looks from the patrons in the lobby. But what can you do.

May have found a secret to pre-hydration. My distance runner friends (who normally eat super healthy) eat salty food the day before the long run. Usually a subway cold cut sandwich & chips. Tried it yesterday, along with lots to drink, and it seemed much better. No muscle cramping this time.
Now if I can just stay healthy. Sending pixie dust to all of you who are under the weather. Hope you're feeling better!

Thanks. I love choc milk. May have to give that a try. I totally forgot about taking Ibuprofen or Tylenol before the run. I'm packing my race bag tomorrow and putting in some Pepto tablets for insurance. That was the only thing that helped my tummy today. I was completely down for about 3 hours or so. The tile on the cool bathroom floor felt so good! After about 3 hours, I was able to eat and I'm alright now. I've got to figure out race day food for the night race. I don't have any other ailments, so I guess I should be thankful.

No more long runs until the race! Whooo-hoooo! :cool1:

For those feeling sick after long runs- I used to have that too and I have found a remedy that works (for me anyway) I make a double portion of broth - I just use bullion cubes- and I sip that for about an hour after my run. I never get sick anymore. I guess this only works of you are like me and lose too much sodium while running.

Who else is thanking Sandy for planning her east coast arrival with an adequate buffer that lets everything get back on schedule before their W&D flight? It's like she WANTS me to get my coast to coast medal.

I AM!!!

In fact, I just said yesterday to DS and DH, that I was going to be feeling grateful all week that the storm came this week and not next. What a total mess that would have been. And they postponed our trick or treating til Saturday so I don't even have to send my DS out into the mess. :thumbsup2

Hey everybody! Just reading about everyone's illnesses is making me nervous. Green tea, echinacea, and rest for all of you!

As I was in Orlando this weekend as Sandy was passing by, it was very windy but the temps were absolutely beautiful - high 70s to low 80's during the day and mid 70s at night. (For those of you who think that's warm don't forget, I live even further south of the Mouse.):wizard: I've never seen Epcot so crowded for the F&W Festival before...you could barely move around the lake!:worried: Since I was up there and only had Saturday morning to run, I ran a fast 5 miles and felt real good afterwards. Word on ibuprofen v. acetaminophen: I was taking Motrin prior to going to the doc for my knee and it wasn't helping a bit. Also, I ended up most faster runs with a bad belly. I've been taking Equate (WalMart brand) arthritis meds with time release and I've not had stomach issues since. Plus, it's helping keep the knee pain to a manageable level while running. You just have to make sure not to take more than 6 in a 24 hour time frame.

Not sure what do to for miles for the rest of this week and next. Should I go long this Sunday (11/4) and then about 45 mins Tuesday and Wednesday? We go up Thursday night so I'll only be to run one more time on Friday and was just going to stay loose with maybe a two mile slow jog. Advice??

So where is everyone coming from for the race? Richmond VA here with my parents from Chapel Hill NC (my hometown!) as my touring partners.

I'm coming from Duluth MN, and my husband Kevin will be cheering me on, as always. I never feel I'm running alone because everyone is so friendly! I'm bib number 5511, and with my estimated time of 2:45 I'm happy to be in Corral C.

We are also running the 5k.

For the half I am dressing as Minnie Mouse.

I can't wait for the W.I.S.H. meet up!

The last pieces of my costume finally came in! I was just waiting on the headband and iFitness belt. Well, I guess the belt is not technically part of the costume, but I am excited nonetheless. :)

On Sunday, I will probably do about 7 miles. Tuesday I will likely do around 45 minutes...I've been doing that the last couple of weeks as it is. I arrive Thursday night, and will do a run when I get there. Friday I am off to Epcot!

Sounds like a plan. Think I'll shoot for 9-10 Sunday and then take it easy on the Tuesday and Friday runs.

I was going to wear my amphipod belt, but I discovered last weekend that since I have to cinch it down so tight so it won't bounce, that I end up pushing it below my waist when running because it drives me crazy!:furious: I guess since there'll be water stops every 1.5, so I can do without it. I'll just have to figure out what to do with my phone and maybe pin a ziploc of honey stingers to my waist.:confused3

I missed the post for the WISH meetup. Can someone please post the details. Thanks so much....can't wait for next week to come!

Where is everybody staying? We'll be at the Royal Plaza near Downtown Disney and already have massages schedule for Sunday. 'Cuz I'm thinking boy are we gonna need 'em!::yes:::thumbsup2

Oh, and staying at the Boardwalk!

Has anybody ever had tummy issues with powerade on long runs? I'm still trying to figure out what went wrong yesterday. Powerade and stinger chew bad combo? Drank a little powerade again today and felt my tummy feeling weird.
I've got to get my act together! Next week will be here soon!!! Can't wait!!!

I don't drink powerade, but do occasionally drink gatorade, and have found on long runs I end up with an acid stomach. It's much worse when I do any kind of fuel that is fruity flavored. During runs I am sticking with water, endurolytes and peanut butter gu. I can handle the gatorade after the run, just not during it. Hope this helps.:goodvibes

That's my standard long run fuel- honey stinger chews and blue powerade I've never had stomach issues with it, but everyone is so different that you really have to experiment. I'd avoid that combo for the race if it caused you trouble. Maybe try powerade with other fuel this weekend.
