I want a sparkle skirt!! I was looking but not sure which size to get. How do the sizes run? Did you use the sizing guide on the website?

I am on the top side of the Tech Skirt 2x and I wear it comfortably, I feel like if I had gone up it would have been too loose. And since I have had running pants drop to my knees on the trail, better slightest bit snug then loose.:scared1:

Yeah our Turkey Trot is going to have nice weather this year too!! Usually its a sleet/snow mix, but this year will be about 50 degrees and sun!! SUN??? What's that?? LOL I live on the great lakes, we're used to dreary weather this time of year!! Haha!!

Went for packet pickup for our Turkey Trot and WOW am I pumped for Thursday!! I ordered myself a hoodie and sweatpants - the pants have written across the butt "Hot to Trot" which totally cracked me up!! This is gonna be a great race :)

The pants sound cute, I am in IL and there is a big race by the lake Thursday and its going to be nice out and I can't run.,, still benched by the doc for my hip. So sad.

You can do it! I'll be cheering you on.:cheer2:....probably from mile 6 when you cross the finish line but I'll be cheering:cheer2:

Thank you. I am feeling pretty confident. I did my 11 miles in 2:10 so I figure if I round my pace up to 12 m/m for the last 2.1 it would put me at about 2:34 right now, with about 3 months still to train so I should be able to do it.

I am sure you will be a lot closer to me then you think ;)

This week is turning out to be a rough one for me. Today I had to work both jobs so I was on my feet about 11 hours start and didn't really eat anything until about 6 o'clock tonight. Which also led to me skipping tonight's run. Thurs instead of doing my 45 minutes I decided to take dd1 on a practice 5K run and the Sat will be 13 miles. I am a little more worried about the 13 miles then the past runs because I do merchandising and my schedule is all messed up the next couple of days for all the Black Friday stuff. I normally work in the mornings but tomorrow I have to work 4pm to midnight and then Thurs night I have to go in at 11pm and work until 5 am so I am not sure how I am going to get back on schedule for a morning run Sat morning. :confused3

Argh, the person I was going to do the Turkey Trot with this weekend has the flu and isn't going to run. Is it worth it to drive an hour to Miami to run by myself? I feel like I'll be super bored waiting for the race to start :(

JCH - I wanted to thank you for your post - since reading it, I signed up for the Turkey Trot in Dallas this Thursday. My 12 year old son agreed to run/walk it with me - yes, he is the best kid on the planet ;) My training has been slow since the Wine and Dine so this will get me going :)

Ahhh, I wish I were Dallas for that one. I am from Dallas (went to Townview) and my family is still there, but plane tickets are expensive so I have to pick one holiday, and Christmas won. Have fun!!

Thanks, this helps. If it was closer, it would be a no brainer, but I've never driven to Miami and am afraid of getting lost, and the traffic. I'll see if I can convince my husband to get up at 5 AM and drive down there with me, otherwise I will probably do my own 10k around the neighborhood and do the Marathon of the Palm Beaches 10k on December 4th.

The drive itself is easy - tropical park is right off the palmetto. It just got super backed up! And Oh! This may not affect you, but they apparently turned off the clocks for my mom a few years ago. She is a walker, so was prob in the 14-15 min/mile range. Not sure when the cutoff was exactly...but just trying to give you what I know

I've done races by myself and often find someone to chat with at the start- sometimes not I'm not a very outgoing person (in person). This Turkey trot could be a bit embarassing though as several of my students could be waiting at the finish line (after running) for probably 20 minutes for me to finish. I hope they don't wait though!

Hey, racers and runners - would like suggestions for good pre-run / race eats. I'm getting so sick of a peanut butter bagel I could spit. I have blood sugar issues, so I definitely need to eat before I run, but obviously not too close to the run. What are some good, energy-inducing breakfasts y'all can suggest?:confused3

I want to do that Turkey Trot one of these days since I've heard so much about it. Tomorrow I will stick to biking at the gym so I can be lazy on Friday, and justify my food coma later tomorrow.

I'd like to know too, usually I don't eat anything before I run, but I know as I increase milage I will definately need something in my system so I don't pass out!!

I have no advice cause this is what I'm afraid of for the princess!! There's gonna be groups of women all around me.

I usually just eat a banana. On long runs, sometimes I will drink the Gatorade Prime stuff for the sugar. You could try with those gels and stuff before you run instead of food to see if that will work for you, worked for my ex-BF, he loved the GU. Last year before the princess I had a Carnation instant breakfast and a banana...I did fine with it, but know some people might have some dairy issues.

Do you eat Luna Bars? I have been known to eat one of those as well.

You could also make a batch of muffins and freeze them, and warm them in the microwave before you eat them.

Our friend Kat's breakfast of champion's is ...... Chocolate Chip Cookies
:rotfl2::rotfl2:

Now you could look up some recipes for some "healthy" cookies or bars too.

a banana seems to be working for me :)

Does anyone know where I can find the sponsors for the princess race? I'm looking for the products they will use during the race. (electrolytes and GU's) Not sure I'll use them cause what I use seems to be working for me so I may need to run with a backpack :rotfl2: j/k I LOVE coconut water and clif shots! (for my long runs) Should I just continue to train with what I like and bring it on race day OR should I maybe try what Disney will be giving out to see if I like it?

Julie, so sorry to hear it. I am with you on the getting old thing. Yuck! I hope you get some good exercises and stay healthy!

I'll be interested to hear what you learn about core and full-body exercises. I'm always looking for something interesting to mix it up (though it would be better if I actually stuck with doing it). In case it's useful, a friend turned me on to the Yogamazing podcast http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/yogamazing/id79497140, which has a yoga for runners episode that's nice.

I actually find it harder to go to the other side of the living room and do 20 minutes of yoga than I do to get all suited up and go running. Go figure. :confused3

Cate

Thanks for the yoga!

Last year when I was in PT, I worked on balance and she told me I need to to strengthen my core. If you are weak in your core or one of your larger muscles you could try to overcompensate with your tendons and feet which puts the strain on them and voila....my issues! My doctor told me yesterday to mix it up with my exercise, even old school Aeorbics are great. I have a balance board I work with too - husband and I play catch while I am on it, I do some balance exercises and think this week I will do weights on it. There is a great class at my gym, Body Flow which is Pilates, Yoga and Tai Chi...I feel amazing afterwards, but during the week I can't seem to make it and haven't been able to make the Sat class. Now that Soccer is over I need to make that one a priority....but I was doing long runs on Sat. SHEESH.

Last year I was so worried about my other foot recovering from PF when I trained, I got PF on the other foot. I keep my workouts just to bare minimum, not the greatest idea as I was ignoring all my muscles other than the running ones.

Like you I seem to have a hard time getting in the short yoga or stretching...but I need to just do it...I am sick of being sore and afraid of injury.

Thanks for your support!

Julie

Finally got to do our 6 mile run yesterday - we're a couple of days behind, which can't be helped. Felt good! I ran about it in 7 minutes less time than I had assumed.
Got a bit of a rotten tummy afterwards, but I chalk that up to the bolognese sauce I had an hour before my run in the crew mess.

That's actually the toughest part of this for me right now - hearing you all talk about how much weight you're dropping, and I've gone UP! Think about how much weight you gain on a week long cruise and then do the math on a 4 month contract. Even with trying to eat carefully, it's difficult when you don't know what is in what you're eating. So much salt and oil!

I usually eat a clif bar if I want to grab something really quick.

Great job on the 6 miles. I haven't dropped weight since I started training, but I've become more toned. Since muscle weighs more than fat, you could always be gaining some muscle. I can only imagine how difficult it is to eat healthy when you are surrounded by unhealthy things.

My food of choice before a longer run (anything over 5) is a Nutri-grain frozen waffle with peanut butter and honey. It's yummy and covers all my food needs. When hubby and I ran an out of town half a couple weeks ago, we took bagels, peanut butter, and seedless strawberry jam to have pre-race, and it was surprisingly good. Like you, I couldn't face just the bagel and peanut butter!

Training is off schedule as the heavy duty antibiotics I'm taking are not being kind to my body. Today I feel achy and generally yucky, but am giving myself permission to do NOTHING. Hope to get the miles back up this weekend. Good luck to all of you running Turkey Trots! Happy Thanksgiving!

I had oatmeal a few hours before the race ands then some Welchs fruit snacks right before going to the start-- that seemed to work for me, but I also don't eat during my runs (at least up to 9 mi).

I'm going to try the same plan tomorrow.

Yay! Waitlist came through for Boardwalk Villas!

Current race time temperature for tomorrow is 31-34 degrees. Brrr! That's probably about the coldest yet for me- I think one night run was in the upper 30s. Any advice on clothing?

I have layers and my outer layer has "cuffins" but I'm worried about a hat-- that I'll get too hot and have to carry it the rest of the way! (no pockets that big)
