I'm running the Feaster Five in Andover MA with my hubby, daughter and daughters boyfriend. This will be our 3rd year!! Hopefully it's not too cold this year.. Last year was FREEZING !!
Speaking of weather.. I'm sure this has probably been addressed here already but what can we expect for weather at Disney in February at 4am ??
Last year was really mild - I wore a running skirt and a short-sleeve tech tee and don't remember being cold at all. However, I believe the year before was really cold, so it could be pretty much a crapshoot. I know there was a lot of chatter last year about bringing "throwaway" items to keep warm before the start. You can get old blankets, bathrobes, jackets, et cetera at Goodwill and right before start, toss them to the side of the road - they collect them up and donate them to charity. I just got some cute, .50 knee socks at Target to use as disposable sleeves (cut the foot out) but I didn't even need those. Now, others will tell you that it got really hot after the sun came up, but I don't really remember feeling too warm; the whole thing seemed pretty mild to me.
I would love to plus it's not far from me, but hubby asked me politely not to run one since we are hosting both sets of parents for T-giving lunch. He is pretty supportive of my "habit", so no Turkey Trot for me...
Enjoy!!
Yeah - when I pointed out to my husband that I could run a 5K every weekend in October, he just looked at me with a "Really?" look on his face. This is also why I chose to do a half on Halloween weekend - DH signed up for the Gobble Jog 10K and it would have taken an act of God to get all my kids taken care of while DH and I ran 2 different races, so I am sitting this one out and will bring the support crew to cheer Dad on! Plus, one of our local DJ's is running it in a full-on turkey costume and the kids are begging me to take them to see it!
Sooooooooo blowing off the long runs lately. Granted, I am starting over on my training plan, but that's why I have been blowing them off - the 3 - 5 milers don't worry me anymore. However, I really don't want to end up injured again when the training plan calls for more mileage and I have to work up to that. I think I will re-vamp the plan. Instead of doing my long run on the weekend, I might move it to Wed - my only day without a kid. That way, if I need to I can get a maintenance run in with the kids on the weekend and not worry about it being too far for them to pedal along. The only hitch is if I get called into work on Wed then I am sunk b/c there is no other time that day for me to make it up. Of course, the back-up plan is always sucking up and doing the long run with the kid in the stroller - hey, long runs are supposed to be a minute or two slower than your normal pace anyway, right?! Oh, thanks for allowing me to think online......
Good luck to all who have races this week! I would definitely agree with those who say not to do anything different on race day than you do in your training runs. If you use intervals in your runs, you should probably stick to them for a 10K. 5K you might be able to get away with running the whole thing straight if you are at an appropriate fitness level. Just remember - corral placement is NOT the end-all be-all of the Princess! There were several people on this board last year who race-walked the whole thing without being swept and a few who completed it partially injured but in plenty of time. Again, just stick to your training, challenge yourself a little regularly (maybe one day a week of speedwork or hill repeats), and you should be fine.
Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving!
