I need some training advice. My 10K was the 12th, and I've rested and gotten back into my training schedule slowly and should be up to speed again. My next long run is 9.5 and my schedule shows it's this weekend. Should I wait one more weekend and doing something like 5 miles Saturday and then to 9.5 on the 3rd, or is it safe to do 9.5 this weekend?

Generally, one day recovery per mile of race. I go by feel as much as anything so as pp said, if you feel like going, then go

Speaking of weather.. I'm sure this has probably been addressed here already but what can we expect for weather at Disney in February at 4am ??

As a pp said it is pretty much up in the air. This year I walked to the corrals in my tank, capris and sparkle shirt and was just fine. By about mile 9 I was pretty warm.
I did not run in 2010 but since everyone was hyping up how cold it was that year I had bought a few throw away items on clearance just in case, but I didn't use them.
Thankfully I run in capris year round so that part doesn't bother me too much.

I've been toying with the idea of our local 5k, but I'm leaning more towards planning a route for a family 5k run around our house to save some money.

I like that idea! I might do the same here. It is a normal training day anyway and dd has not been training for the Royal Family 5k recently so I might see if my sister wants to take her out to get a feel for her time. She has done 2.5 so I am not worried about the distance and I think a nice easy training run will be just what we need before our Thanksgiving dinner.

You can look at the map at rundisney to get an idea. Just went and looked at it, not as good as last years map.
Not sure how fast you are or what corral you will be in, but the first 3 are before daybreak. Four and 5 on the way to castle...start looking for castle once past the TTC. Mile 6 is actually after you go through the castle and several photo op in MK. Then out the back by Splash MT and start back toward Epcot. There are many photo op with princesses along the stretch. Mile 10 just before the dreaded uphill, banked on ramp. They have placed some entertainment here. Green Army guy often yelling for us to keep it up. Mile 12 back to Epcot and more photo op, it has been Cinderella characters in past years. Mile 13 the Gospel choir...I love that part and the chute to finish. This is just a fast run down.

Or you can be like me and miss almost all of that. :rotfl2: My mom kept asking me about stuff she saw from the monorail and I kept saying I dunno I didn't see it. A friend was talking about the choir at mile 13 and I was all what choir?? She said the one right by the Innoventions singing very loudly. :confused3

I am doing with same race with my step daughter. :thumbsup2my first 10k and my my first run since being sidelined by an injury, I say that my goal is to simply finish but I don't really mean it!!:rolleyes1
Good Luck!!!

LoL That was me for this years run. I wanted to just finish since that is what I was suppose to say for my first race, but I really wanted under 3, which I got. Now I want 2:30-ish, but secretly I want 2:27 since that will be a half an hour off of this year's time.

I have found this to be pretty much true. After this years princess I took a week completely off and then struggled through a few short runs for another week before I got back into my grove.
I am hoping, given my training schedule this time, that it will not take me as long since I am doing the Tinker Bell before the Princess this year and I would hate to struggle through the Princess.

I've still been contemplating the Princess half; I'm "training" but I just don't know if I can make it the rest of the distance I need to go to do the full half-marathon at the end of February!

I did a 5 mile run (well, run walk, but not Galloway) in 80 minutes on Saturday - and I was really pushing it (I did feel GREAT afterward, though). I could have done 6 miles, but I was having dinner with my family and didn't want to have the food they cooked for me go to waste, so I couldn't keep going.

I will bump up to the 6 miler this weekend and see what happens. As it stands now, I am just not sure where I'll be physically when the big race comes around....

You can do it! I'll be cheering you on.:cheer2:....probably from mile 6 when you cross the finish line but I'll be cheering:cheer2:

Does anyone have a link to last year's map they could share?

google princess half marathon course map and clip on images...you can find one with water and food stop. Food stop is around mile 7 or so and has been gels in the past.

The weather was mild this year and I'm sure it was hot for those out there more than 3 hours. 2010 was about 40 degrees when we started. The first year (2009) the weather was between the two.

Awesome! I don't know how many 10K runners there will be, but maybe we can keep an eye out for you! It's only our 2nd 10K (and 2nd real race), so I still have that "first race" adrenaline!

Argh, the person I was going to do the Turkey Trot with this weekend has the flu and isn't going to run. Is it worth it to drive an hour to Miami to run by myself? I feel like I'll be super bored waiting for the race to start :(

We have a local 5k Turkey Trot I'll be doing- and the weather is supposed to be better for it than I've ever seen in the 5 yrs I've run it! LOL No rain and temps between 40 and 60 with sun! Which is darn nice in Northeastern Indiana at the end of November! (must be because my daughter decided not to do it this year.)

I go to races all the time by myself. You should go.

I hardly ever go to races with others. I always start talking to others waiting around me at the start and usually don't get too bored waiting for the start.

Yeah our Turkey Trot is going to have nice weather this year too!! Usually its a sleet/snow mix, but this year will be about 50 degrees and sun!! SUN??? What's that?? LOL I live on the great lakes, we're used to dreary weather this time of year!! Haha!!

Went for packet pickup for our Turkey Trot and WOW am I pumped for Thursday!! I ordered myself a hoodie and sweatpants - the pants have written across the butt "Hot to Trot" which totally cracked me up!! This is gonna be a great race :)

Me too! Actually thursday will be the first time I actually know someone at the race I'm doing. Usually I just go. The last 5k I ran two ladies asked about my sparkle skirt and said they were looking for something for the disney princess race. So that got us talking for about 15 minutes about the princess. It was so much fun

If you do go, leave EARLY. Ran it two years ago and were just 20 mins south of tropical park in pinecrest and traffic was a sh*tshow. Was going to run it this year but a) I'm injured so no hopes of a true race pace b) didn't want to deal with the traffic

Hi all happy Turkey Week. I went to the Sports Doc today and was diagnosed Posterior Tibial Tendonitis... I just need to keep stretching and work on my core and total body fitness. My training this week well, not so great. My ankle has been TIGHT, so I thought I would slack off until after the doctor. The good news is my heel feels good - still have a touch of Plantar Faciitis. Sheeesh getting old stinks!

I am resolving here and now to get some kind of better fitness routine going to help my running training.

My doc gave me a prescrip to see a running specialist if I want to have my gait analyzed and work with him on improving, but I doubt my crappy insurance covers any of that. So we shall see.

Oh well, hopefully I won't hurt myself at the Gobble Jog 10K thanksgiving, just need to remember to keep it slow! It has been so warm here, of course the morning of the Turkey trot will be back to the 30's....that will for sure keep me going!

Thanks, this helps. If it was closer, it would be a no brainer, but I've never driven to Miami and am afraid of getting lost, and the traffic. I'll see if I can convince my husband to get up at 5 AM and drive down there with me, otherwise I will probably do my own 10k around the neighborhood and do the Marathon of the Palm Beaches 10k on December 4th.

I want a sparkle skirt!! I was looking but not sure which size to get. How do the sizes run? Did you use the sizing guide on the website?

Julie, so sorry to hear it. I am with you on the getting old thing. Yuck! I hope you get some good exercises and stay healthy!

I'll be interested to hear what you learn about core and full-body exercises. I'm always looking for something interesting to mix it up (though it would be better if I actually stuck with doing it). In case it's useful, a friend turned me on to the Yogamazing podcast http://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/yogamazing/id79497140, which has a yoga for runners episode that's nice.

I actually find it harder to go to the other side of the living room and do 20 minutes of yoga than I do to get all suited up and go running. Go figure. :confused3
