Hey everyone! It's been a few weeks since I've been on here. After my 4 mile run on the Galloway program, I busted my ankle pretty bad. I twisted it while running and then twisted it again at work, so I was out of commission for about 3 weeks before I could run again without pain.

I had the Turkey Trot 5 mile run yesterday and I was so happy with my results! I normally walk/run right from the start, but I was able to make it 2.5 miles without walking!!!

I told myself if I made it through this race alive that I would officially sign up for the Princess 1/2. However, I am starting a new job after the holidays and don't want to miss work. Do most of you go down Friday or Saturday? And when do you come back?

What do you think?!

Great job on the race!

Last year I flew down Friday afternoon and back EARLY Monday Morning. This way I got to enjoy the parks and walk off the legs on Sunday. This year, I plan on doing the same. 2 friends who came and ran the race left Sunday shortly after the race as they had to be back at work on Monday.

I was able to get to the expo on Friday and then just enjoy Saturday.

Good luck! Its a fun race I had so much fun last year, can't wait for the repeat.

So for the nine months I've been training I've been really healthy. Until yesterday. Was only doing a 5k turkey trot taking it pretty slow and all ofvthe sudden, a knife stabbing pain in my left hip. Not muscular, its joint, tendon or the ligament. Painful every time I take a step. I finished the race but had to walk.

I iced and took aleve yesterday. Today it's a touch better but still painful. Any ideas gang? 5 days ago I did a ten miler, so not sure if it was too much too soon? Sunday I have a 12k race..........

All day I've been so stressed out....... Help!

Trying to dig deep,
Michele

I have no advice, I've never experienced it, just wanted to send you thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!!

I'm going to be solo too. I'm worried I'll be a little lonely, particularly after the race, but hopefully we can have a meetup from this thread and those of us who are solo can celebrate together!

I'll be running solo too, Cate. I would love to meet up with some fellow Disers in the corrals or after the race. DH will pobalby be at the finish line or somwhee around there.

Soreness is one thing, but sharp pain is a total red flag - I would def. keep with the ice and stretch. I guess go ahead and try the 12K, but if that stabbing pain starts up again, I wouldn't push it and suggest you get to a sports med dr. (if your ins. allows) as soon as you can. I don't want to stress you out, but you do need to rule out stress fracture. Otherwise, if it's just some pulls, you might be able to get away with just scaling down for a little bit and still be up in shape in time for the princess. Take it easy today and maybe not go for a time on the 12K as much as a completion? Good luck!:cool1:

1. WHERE DID YOU GET THAT SONG? I have this "thing" for the Move It Shake It Parade....just ask tinkeramy;) I would love to add that one as that song and parade always pump me up.

2. Congrats on your PR! Way to go.....something so excited about going faster than before.

Oh and sorry for all the posts! Just catching up.

Lord, Help me. As soon as I read FreePixie's post, I thought, "Julie is going to jump on this!" Although I can't complain - the enthusiasm was contagious and got me through 3 or so more hours at the MK when I had previously been ready to drop!

I bowed out of Tgvg races so the DH could run a 10K - he was there, Julie, and I told him to look for sparkly you but he didn't see you (of course, I know how he "looks" - just like my children do). He ended up PRing with 57 and some change, so he's pretty pleased. Definitely wouldn't have done that if we had run together, so I'm glad he got the chance to bust it out for himself. Am getting race antsy - after last year's princess I had a goal of doing a 10K a month as incentive to keep my fitness up. Was doing great until June's shin splints. Ran the P'tree anyway in July but haven't done any 10Ks since then. I think I'll look into the local Jingle Jog with SaySay in an attempt to STILL get that elusive sub-1 10K time! Of course, if I run with her, I'm going to have to invest in something sparkly:rotfl:

All... Hip pain, or any pain as far that goes, that can be described as sharp is something that says stop. The hip is very complex and what is described could be anything from a small muscle to a hard tissue issue. Best bet, take the weekend off. Continue your treatment taking NSAIDs as required. It manages pain while lowering any inflammation. If not better Monday, get to a doc. If worse, get there sooner.

We discovered yesterday why you need to take 2 days off after at long run (something my husband keeps insisting is unnecessary). Even with 2 days off after our 6 miler, my legs were TIRED for yesterday's conditioning run. I had intended to go 45 minutes, but half an hour was all I could muster. Strangely, my left leg felt great, and I could have run on it all day long... my right leg on the other hand - tired!! I think the ship might have been listing slightly, since we were at anchor.

I'm sure tomorrow's run will be great, though.

Does anyone have any idea what goes on at the expo? Do they have a lot of stuff for sale?

I got 7 in today after I realized my legs weren't quite recovered fully from my 10K. They felt good up until that point so I decided not to push them any further and wait 2 weeks before I aim for 10. My left knee has some pain on the inside that started last night, even though I have no idea what I did to cause it, but it felt pretty good during the run so I don't think it's anything serious. I popped an Alieve and put ice on it right away when I got home.

Thanks everyone for all the "hip" advice! Changing from a 12k run to a 5k walk tomorrow.

Digging deep and still smiling!

Michele

UGH! I am in a LAZY RUT, HELP ME!!!! LOL I ran on Wednesday of this week and that's it! The last time before that was Saturday my 6 miler. I got my period (not eating and sleeping alot), started throwing up Wednesday night (some type of bug my kids so kindly brought home), Thursday was turkey day and Fri and today is recovery from everything else. I know we all have 100 excuses but help me come out of it..... My kids were off all week from school so that hasn't helped either, hoping Monday I'll be back on track but beating myself up in the meantime about it :(

Don't beat yourself up!! I had a bad week too! Not because of the same reasons (I had hip, knee & back pain on Monday and only did 1.2mi) and couldn't get anything in until Thursday. Good news is that the break was worth it!!! I felt better than ever getting back to it. I remember this from when I was in College. During breaks I wouldn't do a thing and after a week off I felt a lot of improvement both in muscular endurance and cardiovascular endurance. Let tomorrow go (without guilt) and get out there MONDAY!! :) I bet you'll feel the rest has helped. After my mini break worked so well I am actually considered taking another week off in the future...Just to allow my body to recover and regenerate. Maybe in a month or so. I have been taking in extra protein too. GOOD LUCK!! I want to do my 6 six tomorrow if child care is there and my body allows it:)

I have been a slacker myself this past week. Last weekend my 6 miler was cut short due to weather and the only other running I did was my 5k on Thanksgiving. Monday I have to get back on track.

I've been MIA for months, so I apologize if this has already been discussed. It looks like the race host hotel list has been updated. I am now seeing the Yacht and Beach Club and the Boardwalk, but not seeing the Animal Kingdom Lodge on the list anymore. Does anyone know if they changed which resorts are host hotels? I booked AKV purposely to be in a host hotel and I'm wondering if I have to try and change it.

Don't beat yourself up, we have all been there (In fact, I have been there more times than I would like to admit). There is always something that gets in the way of our good intentions. Sometimes, I think I am actually looking for those distractions that are more enjoyable than exercising ;)

I have been dealing with the same thing..
It was the end of Sept and I had major hip pain , I did a 5K I was signed up for, it hurt so bad, that I knew if I stopped running I would just fall to the ground, I ran right to my car after the finished and cried from the pain. I got home iced it and took Aleve, it did not go away. Evey time I would stand up I could not put my full weight on my left hip. I would rest a week, try to run and the pain would come pack, in the first week of Nov I went to the doc, and now I am in phyical therapy, I don't know why but my left hip/leg is very week. (can't do a one legged squat) Its been 3 weeks and it is getting better but not 100% I can not fully princess train. Long story short. If your pain is not gone in a week go to the doc. I wish I would of listened to fellow goddess when they told me to go.

The last I knew the AKV was almost sold out, and that was a few months ago, I bet, if they are missing from the list, it's only because they don't have more rooms. We are staying there, and we needed a total of 6 rooms, settled with 4, and a few of the people in our party are staying in another resort for a few nights.
