Official 2012 Princess 1/2 marathon thread part 2

Hi Princesses ~

I think I messed up pretty big and have created a logistics issue. I realize that calling Disney (but who?) will probably be my best bet, but everyone on here seems so knowledgeable and maybe even if I can't get the answer(s), I can at least have an idea of who I should be calling and what I should be asking.

Anyway, on the day of the race, I'm leaving on a cruise out of Port Canaveral. For some reason, I had it in my head that the port was relatively close to Disney...it wasn't until I started trying to find transportation that I realized it wasn't that close.

An idea that I came up with was to take the Disney transportation back to the airport and then take the Carnival transportation to the port. But will Disney even allow me to take their transportation without me actually getting on a flight?

If that doesn't work, does anyone know an estimate of how much a taxi would cost to get to the airport?

And (final question for now!) is an 11:00 pick-up reasonable? Looks like I'll probably be in Corral B and I'm staying at All-Star Sports...I can't see myself finishing in more than 3 hours and really only plan on a quick shower and clothing change before heading to the ship.

Thanks!

I checked out Mears, thinking they did return trips to the airport but I'm not sure that they do. That should be relatively inexpensive if so.

I haven't heard of Disney allowing transportation on the bus if you aren't flying, but if they have room they might since you are staying at the hotel. Doesn't hurt to ask and have a backup plan in case!

I did the taxi rate calculator for Mears from Blizzard Beach to the airport, since that's the closest location they have in the drop down menu. It came to $54. http://www.mearstransportation.com/services/taxi-fare-estimator.asp

Originally I wasn't planning on a costume for the race. But all of the wonderful costumes on here have inspired me...to an extent, since I am NOT artistic at all!

I remember someone mentioning that they were going to do a sort of Belle outfit with blue and white. Well, yesterday I was a few minutes early for my boxing class, so I did what I always do when I have a spare few minutes and headed to TJ Maxx to see what kind of workout clothes they have (I have a slight problem). Lo and behold, they had a display of blue running skirts and running tanks. Winner! I already have a white tech shirt that the tank can go over...so bookish Belle I am!

I really hope that however I 'stole' this idea from doesn't mind....

I am very excited to know someone is doing bookish Belle! I will be a pink minnie princess, with pink tech skirt and white tech shirt, I will being doing a front and back design by iron on.

Well, it is official! My daughter turned 14 yesterday so she has met the official age requirement for the 1/2 marathon! We have been signed up for some time and had a long run of 11 miles today. I am so happy to be training with my daughter! These times are so special!

I looked at our bib numbers and we are in the 21,000's. My question: for those of us running as a team... does the 21,000 mean we are in the later start corral? Or will there be a corral letter that does not necessarily correspond with the bib number?

TIA, Beth

No one really know what corral (except for those who have emailed rundisney), but it will be on your bib when you pick it up. Teams will be in different corrals. go ahead and print out your waivers to bring with you and have fun. I have gotten the oppertunity to run with both my DDs. This year just one.

Personally, I'd investigate a one-way car rental to drop of in the Cape Canaveral area, and catch the shuttle from there (likely free). This gives you the most control, although it could be a little pricey. However, in this situation, I'd pay the money to make sure I got there on time - and I wouldn't want to waste time trying to make the shuttle pickup at the airport.

There is a rental car pick-up (not sure which company) at the Swan or Dolphin hotel.

Longhorns2, what email did you use? And did you just email them asking what your corral number is? What info did you ask for specifically?

I am bib #20744. I submitted a 1:14:10 time for a 10k. I think that I put down 2:40 as my estimated finish time back in September-ish. I am running as part of Team Pingulina.

I emailed Disneysports@trackshack.com and asked if they could tell me what Corral both my sister and I were in. She asked for my bib number, and then let me know the corral. Easy peasy. They did this for me last year too (it may depend on who gets the email though) Doesn't hurt to ask if you can't wait for the expo.

Summer--- that costume is ADDDDOOORRRABLLLEEE! Can't wait to see the new one! Such talent.

I was one person wanting to be bookish Belle (especially since I look terrible in yellow/gold), but my costume hasn't come together for that at all. Maybe another race. Hmmm... Guess I need to find a local TJ Maxx and see if mine has workout clothes! :rotfl:

I was able to get in 12.5 on the treadmill yesterday. I watched Fantasia on an Iphone to help pass time!

I hope everyone had great long runs too!

That's a great idea. I believe it's Alamo & National at the Swan & Dolphin.

Momma and I did 11miles yesterday and we finished right at 2:30! She was soo happy (I was too) because she could picture finishing! We completed this with 2 bathroom stops and we walked a total of 1 whole mile (well, we do run/walk intervals but 2 times we walked a straight 1/2 mile).
I'm hoping we can keep this pace and finish right around 3hours! Can't wait now!!

I used the above email address to ask about our corral placement. We are running as a team but our bib numbers are a few numbers different.
A lady named Kara responded (quickly!) that we would be in the same corral but did not let me know which corral that would be. Oh well, I'm fully expecting to be in the last one anyway. Won't change my training strategy at this point!

]Hi Princesses. Thanks to everyone that sent me words of encouragement when I posted about the recent death of my dad. I have decided to do the princess. I'm not really "feeling" it, but I know that if I don't I will have regrets. In fact the day of the princess will be exactly 2 months since his death. I will be carrying a picture of the two of us at the event I did for him in his home town 3 months before he died. My princess costume shirt has that event highlighted on the back. My training is not where I'd hoped it would be at this time,( I stopped training for several weeks) the worst that will happen is I will fall behind and get swept. My bib # is 8080 so not sure where that puts me,hopefully I'll have some buffer. I finished my costume. Here is a picture of the front and back. I included a picture of one I had made for my DH. His unwavering support through this whole journey has been amazing. If I am able to get an official time we will be doing the D-land half together in Sept. I really want the C2C metal.
I've been trying to find out what qualifies as an official time. One that is posted online or only if it's under 3:30?
Looking forward to meeting other Princesses and hearing about your journey to the Princess HM.princess:

Oh my goodness, I'm catching up after a busy weekend and I have to say how much I LOVE your hat details! A definite must do! So creative.

Just got caught up after a busy weekend too. I needed to get through this weekend before planning for the princess weekend, can't believe how close it is! Training has been hard to get done, but got 3 miles in today.
Love all the excitement of the bib numbers! I added mine to the other thread. Costumes are looking great for those who posted! I got my sparkle skirt, wondering if I should have gotten a smaller size though. I will test drive it on the treadmill on Wed.

Hi everyone - not sure if this is the right place to ask this, but since it seems to be all about the Princess 1/2...here goes...I am wondering if anyone is staying off property? My friend and I are staying at the Sheraton Safari Hotel and hoping to meet some other Princess's there to chat with, share a drink (or two with!) and possibly the early morning ride to the race....anyone else out there interested? I can not believe the time is almost here! I am beyond excited!! Nervous - but super excited too!! Hope to hear of some others sharing the same hotel!! Maybe next year we will stay on site!

Anyone driving to the race?

I'm not staying on property (with friends), so I will be driving to the race. I know most of us on here will be taking a Disney bus, but I have heard the traffic is crazy..it definitely was for the 5k last year and that was a lot less people!

I am staying off property, but not at the Sheraton Safari. I am staying at the Blue Heron. Do you have any idea what time to leave the hotel that morning? I was thinking about 3:15- 3:30. It's harder to predict a time when not using the Disney buses! I don't want o get stuck in horrific traffic!

Also, I'm from CT too!!!

Hi Everyone, A question about family on the day of the race. My DH and parents are coming to cheer me on and we are staying at POR. Do they get on the bus with me at 3:30 or can they come later say 5 or 5:30 to see me off? What are your cheerleaders doing?

Anybody heard or seen about the waiver you sign for someone to pick up your race bib yet? I need to send mine across the country to my sister in law and hope to get and fill it out soon!

thanks

Just an FYI, I got an email back and I am in Corral E with bib number 9152. It was also confirmed that the corrals will go to H. I am very excited as this means I have 3 corral cushion! I may be able to actually stop for pictures!!! :cool1:

It is on the Run Disney website for the Princess Half. The official link to pick up your waiver/bib number is up now too as well as the official program.
